Our family, including our one-year-old granddaughter, had a lovely morning hike guided by Shona, an estate ranger. Shona initially drove us through the estate in a Range Rover, while sharing its history and educating us about its pine forest and wildlife. She then led us by foot to the top of Ord Ban, where the 360 degree views were breathtaking. We spent a bit of time at Loch an Eilein, where my granddaughter enjoyed watching the ducks swim. Shona was extremely enjoyable and enlightening as a guide. We would highly recommend her and this experience as a "don't miss" part of your Scotland visit.

Head Ranger Shona guided us on a truly wonderful family adventure. "We" were: x4 adults, a 2yr old n an alert wee baby. The 2yr old was beside herself with excitement - before, during and after - and was fully immersed and involved, with great enthusiasm. Shona's relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable manner made us all feel safe and in good hands - free to soak it all in. A very special experience. The friendly deer were all relaxed, well fed and thriving, which was a joy to see. They loved being hand-fed and being stroked. We all absolutely loved this adventure. Thank you Shona. X

Today we went on the Highland Cow Safari at the Rothiemurchus Estate , Aviemore.
This was something our daughter had wanted to do since she first came on holiday to Scotland 5 years ago .She was not disappointed.
We were met by 2 lovely ladies who took us to the farm .They were fantastic ,talking to us about the estate and sharing information about the cows we met .After feeding and stroking the calves ,we headed off to the larger animals .Wow it was just incredible to be so close to such amazing gentle creatures .The whole 1 HR visit for all 8 of us was well worth the £120 paid .
All adults and children left the experience having had the most incredible time .
This is a MUST activity if staying in or around the Aviemore area

Jamie was a champ! He really looked after me and my son when we came.
We had a smashing visit, it has been a few years since I fished regularly here but I recommend it still.
Excellent atmosphere and plenty of assistance if needed.
Been fishing many years but less over the past three years since the second young un arrived.
I do miss it but now my eldest is old enough to want to try a couple of hours fishing and Jamie just made sure it went perfectly.
Thanks, see you again next time we are up.

Went to the Rothiemurchus fishery and it was amazing. The area was beautiful and the staff were the best. Any questions and anything we needed they were there for us. Help fixing a rod, assistance with setting up and even allowed us to stay a couple minutes longer if we were having fun with no extra cost. I would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys fishing, fresh air and a little bit of a homely and nice day out.

Wow! As an amateur bird photographer, I don't get to hold birds and interact with them. This Bird of Prey experience changed all that and put our small group live and interacting with these amazing birds. Daisy and Johnny are so incredible. Thier vision of carrying on a sustainable future working the land with birds, dogs, and farm animals is impressive. You get a bit of education, some insight into nature and conservation, and some incredible time with their birds. All of us had such a great time. We ended our Bird of Prey time with an incredible lunch over at the Cafe. Such a wonderful day!

Not quite sure how to put into words how glorious the estate is.
Staying on the estate as a lover of woodlands, is an absolute treat. Management is top notch, with well maintained paths talking you past some fabulous veteran trees and the abundance of birds is phenomenal.
It is unbelievably peaceful and an unreal place to unwind.
Activities are also worth looking at. Our host Andy was very thorough, but most importantly an entertaining host for our archery and axe throwing sessions.
We've still got another two days here and very much looking forward to exploring more of the estate.
We will certainly visit again.

We visited on NYE to do the clay pigeon experience. Absolutely fantastic!
The welcome was great, the instructor was first class (very tolerant and patient as well as being a nice guy and very funny!). The couple we were paired with were also great fun.
The experience was supposed to last no more than an hour but ours was more like 90 mins (I hope that was because the instructor was enjoying it and not just because we were rubbish at shooting!!?).
We did 4 x different styles, it is definately worth the money and we will definately come back to do it again.
The location is easy to find and about 10 min drive from Aviemore (follow the mountain ski road). We actually did not have a car on this trip so took the bus from Aviemore which stops about 10 min easy walk away.

We stopped by rothiemurchus quickly to go on the Highland Coo Safari. It was nice and short and we just went around walking and in our car to see all the different coos. The guide was very knowledgeable on the coos and feeding them was a very fun way to interact and see them up close. Overall, it was a good photo op and informative experience that wasn’t too long or short.

I booked the falconry experience for my husbands 50th birthday, I was a bit wary because I’m not good with birds, but what a fantastic experience we both loved it!! Alex is amazing at what he does and obviously loves his job. Would definitely recommend this to anyone!!

Hello there! I will be staying two nights in the area and was wondering if you could advise me on things to do. I saw that there were quad trips, horse riding and I am very much interested in these.
Written 21 August 2021
Hi just wondering if dogs are allowed to join us for walks on the estate?
Written 27 July 2020
Its great that you ask about walking your dogs - thank you.
You and your dog(s) can enjoy one of the most important areas in the U.K. for many 'at risk' species of birds and animals, by using the wonderful network of maintained paths and keeping your dog (s) under close control. We have made special fenced areas (with bins for poo bags) next to parking areas - Loch an Eilein, Inverdruie and Coylumbridge where dogs can range freely off lead, you can throw balls etc.
Dogs love being here, we love dogs - so we want to make it possible for wildlife to thrive undisturbed while you enjoy the most stunning places which are often the most sensitive, with your dog(s). Please follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and we appreciate you taking the time to post this question. Thank you and we hope you enjoy your visit to Rothiemurchus.

Are you able to drive around the estate? Or is it a case of parking up and walking? I am disabled and can't walk long distances.
Written 20 May 2019
There are public roads running through the estate, you can get close to and appreciate the beauty of Loch morlich from the car, the fish farm and reindeer centre are only short walks from the car park, depending on your disability I’m sure the staff would let you drive down to the quad bikes if you were able to do that. I found all of the staff members I encountered super helpful and friendly.

Would like to see your Highland Coos and hopefully calves on our visit in mid April. How do I make arrangements? Perhaps a quad bike tour?
Written 25 March 2019
Thank you -the easiest way to see them is booking online our Ranger led Hairy Coo Safari or you can ring 01479 812345 between 9.30 and 5.30 for our friendly advisors to book you At the moment pure bred Highland calves are being born daily and just get more and more adorable. You do see our Highland Cattle on the Quad Trek but the calving cows and calves are in a field where the stock manager can keep easily keep an eye on them and you can spend more time with them on the Safari.

Can you book feeding the deer without going on full safari tour ? ,my husband and I have enjoyed full safari previously, but mum and dad may not be fit for full tour , but would love to see the deer , Sam
Written 17 March 2019
Yes Sam, it one of our most popular activities which everyone seems to love. You can book online or ring one of our helpful staff on 01479 812245. If sessions are not available online they will see it the Rangers can have extra sessions.

Can you still visit the fishery just to watch ospreys, without booking the photography hide?
Written 3 July 2018
Sorry, Not really - but you could learn to Fly Fish there. It's a great sport, the Fishery is a very beautiful, peaceful place and they have excellent fly fishing instructors. Best way to wait for an Osprey.

Just wondering when website will be up dated to tell people bait loch is for inexperienced and for children and families and not for people from glasgow
Written 21 May 2018
Are you able to see the hairy coos without going on the safari? It does not appear that it is offered on the date we will be there. Thank you!
Written 20 May 2018
Thank you, yes there are 50+ Highland Cattle in the fields here, but they can be un-cooperative, some distance from the road and not reliably easy to see. The Rothiemurchus Ranger led Hairy Coo and Safari tours enable you to be sure of getting close.

Is bike hire available at the Rothiemurchus centre?
Written 6 May 2018
In Your Element at the Pavilion at inverdruie has great bikes to hire. It's beside the Woodland Car Park, the other side of the road from Rothiemurchus Centre. If you ring the Centre with your height they can book a bike for you.

Are the paths good for a electric wheelchair.
Written 26 January 2018
Thank you for this helpful question. At the moment it depends on the weather - its been a long, challenging, unusual winter with almost unheard of constant snow, thaw, freeze, thaw which has prevented the planned November path maintenance and not helped the paths. We try to invite a local group of electric wheelchair users to give a us a report on the paths every year. We welcome all feedback - especially suggestions on how we can improve the UX.
