About
The Workshop is home to a small family team designing and making clothing and accessories using Scottish fabrics such as Tartan and Harris Tweed. They also weave their own tweed on the premises using a 100 year old foot powered loom which you can see in action when visiting the premises. A hidden gem in the heart of the Highlands where you can buy authentic Scottish products.

We stopped in here for a 5 minute pit stop and ended up staying for the best part of an hour. Beautiful items for sale and an interesting chat with staff. Lovely and very original gifts purchased for family members/ friends.

Exquisite one of a kind pieces!
Jun 2019
I was traveling around Scotland with a Master Weaver who met Ruth Black last year. As someone who has a great appreciation of fine crafts, I had a feeling this was going to be a "dangerous" place for me to visit! Well, I was right, I have ordered a custom Harris tweed shawl and 2 sporran bags made by the 4th generation of Anna MacNeil's family, Ruth's granddaughter, Rachel. I am ready to order my next piece and I haven't received the first! If you are interested in ordinary, run of the mill souvenirs, this is not the place for you. They have a wide range of goods at all price levels, everything from key rings, hats, bags, and you can help design your own custom piece!

Just what a fabric buyer needs

My wife & I shopped here yesterday & found an amazing gold mine for tweed fabric and cheaper than the prices charged by the in town stores.

Thanks for stopping by - glad you like the tweed scraps you bought. However, I should point out that the only fabric we sell are SCRAPS and OFFCUTS. Otherwise, what we are selling are the things we make here at The Workshop. Lots to choose from - tartan dresses, Harris Tweed hats and scarves, have your kilt made to measure, get a new jacket...... We also teach feltmaking and basic sewing. Happy sewing!

Highland gem

Not your average "tourist attraction" - something very special, run by very talented people who have taken Harris Tweed to new heights with their wonderful designs for practical clothing, accessories and decoration. If you are lucky you might be able to watch Ruth weaving on her Hattersley Loom.
