Disappointed

This place is CLOSED and derelict, this is only two exhibits left behind closed fencing. The buccaneer and the jet provost which is under a marquee being what looks like restored/rebuilt.

Fantastic place
Oct 2019
We visited the museum while on holiday in Aviemore, for our sons 6th birthday, he is airplane mad and he was super excited to be able to sit in the cockpits. He liked the nimrod best, as he was able to fully immerse himself in being a pilot ( with me as his co-pilot, I wasn’t allowed to captain it ! I didn’t have a license apparently). After being here, then landmark adventure park then zip lining at zip trek ( also great ) our son said he loved it all ,but his his favourite was being in the cockpit at the museum. So a big thank you to the volunteers who run the place.

Great hidden gem
Sep 2019 • Family
We were staying near Inverness for the weekend and stumbled across this fab wee place. It's small but has a huge array of plane memorabilia to look at as well as pilot uniforms and model planes. Outside though is the best bit, three different planes that you can sit in, fiddle with the buttons, levers etc and really pretend you are flying. Kids will love it as nothing is off limits. Definitely worth a visit!

Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon
Aug 2019 • Family
Ending our Highlands journey at Inverness and visited the Aviation museum close to Inverness Airport. A fabulous museum, it is only small and only open at weekends but definitely worth a visit if you have an hour or two free. It houses several ex-military aircraft outdoors, some of which are open to sit in/walk round, and has an indoor display too. A couple of picnic benches, toilets, disabled facilities and friendly, well informed volunteers made this an very pleasant afternoon. Dogs welcome too!

Aircraft to touch
Aug 2019
Yes, some aircraft need some repainting, but the small but fine collection has something you find very seldom: You can touch and board the aircraft!

It's good enough for the money, feel it could be so much more though.

I've always wanted to visit this place but it wasn't what I expected. It's a fine small place. A big mobile home for the indoor displays which is well packed, interesting and informative. The planes outside are quite something to be able to see so up close and personal. I just felt that the out door side of things could do with a bit of a tidy up, scrub up, paint and some of the wood work needed replacing. But then again, it doesn't cost much so that's fair enough. Plus there's a lot of missed opportunity in the shop area but it is quite good all the same.

Fascinating to see aircraft close up and even sit in the flight deck seats. Friendly and knowledgeable staff members. Good fun for an hour or so.

Last minute but a lot of fun!

Last minute decision to go to the aviation museum and definitely not disappointed. It’s a wee site but has 3 planes that can be sat in, lots of knobs and buttons for the kids to play with and the indoor museum part is informative too. The Nimrod was a particular favourite of my three kids and they could have easily spent the whole time role playing in it for hours. Glad we visited and not too pricey admission fee 👍

Well worth a visit - only open at weekends and make sure you arrive early!

My three and half year old was delighted to sit in the cockpit and pretend to be a pilot in two of the jets on view. He also enjoyed climbing into the fire truck and we all enjoyed, including my dad who is a few years retired, getting inside the nimrod and seeing all the different stations within the plane. It was fascinating - would be excellent for slightly older children with an interest in aircraft or even older 'children' with an interest in local history. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that there are no concessions for the very young or (ahem) old, though it did not break the bank. The other reason for knocking off one star is that the time displayed for closure was 4pm but we were told at 3.30pm that the planes were being locked and they were closing so our time was cut short by 30 mins.
