About
Just eight miles from the shores of Loch Ness, the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre is a gateway to the 10,000-acre Dundreggan estate. Rewilded by Trees for Life since 2008, Dundreggan is home to more than 4,000 species of plants and animals, including many rare and protected species, and is a unique place rich in natural and cultural heritage where real change is happening. By allowing the forest to recover through natural regeneration, important fragments of Scotland’s Caledonian forest are expanding and can now be enjoyed by our visitors through exploration of ancient pinewood and unique juniper forest, discovery of centuries of Gaelic history, and connection with a landscape undergoing transformation through rewilding. Join a guided tour to learn more about our specialist tree nursery and local wildlife, get involved with hands-on activities such as minibeast hunting and scavenger hunts and immerse yourself in the history of the landscape with our storytelling sessions and tales of Gae

- Stormcloud46Stirling, United Kingdom46 contributionsGood lunch in interesting location - handy for road to/from SkyeStopped off on the road back from Skye - had mushroom filo parcel and salad lunch with Earl Grey tea and it was excellent. My colleague did not enjoy her lunch at all, but I had the same food and for me it tasted really good. Nice bright cafe, free carpark, good buzz about the place.Thank you for visiting! We're sorry to hear that your colleague didn't enjoy her lunch and welcome any feedback, but we're glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit.Written 9 July 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2024Travelled on businessWritten 4 May 2024
- Morven RInverness, United Kingdom4 contributionsA hidden gem and a must visit. Our first visit to Dundreggan and what a marvellous place that they have created, we will definitely be back again. Really enjoyed the walks, very well thought out especially for wheelchair access that made all the difference for our family member with mobility issues. Also the food at your cafe, such a great choice and especially liked the Chickpea and Butternut pastie it’s to die for. Will be back again for the longer walks, maybe stay two nights and definitely lunch. SeanThank you so much for visiting and for the lovely review. The Centre has a fantastic environmental purpose and takes the time to explain that purpose in very clear and understandable terms. Strongly recommend you stop by, and if you have more time, consider one of their regular program.Thank you so much for your review! We enjoyed our stay, nevertheless. The water in the vicinity tastes nice (Scotland water, after all), and tastes even better after a boil (for a tea). We missed the buffet but it’s okay as we arrived past midnight. Going back next summer. Thanks so much for coming & staying with us! - David AWest Bridgford, United Kingdom1,054 contributionsA exceptional place to understand rewinding and cafe top.Called in based on the excellent reviews of the cafe to find that the cafe was good for coffee and cake but there was much more to the centre. It is a centre which runs courses and educates on the whole re wilding ideas, putting them into practice with day and residential courses. If like us you just passing through there are a number of walks, leaflets, boards etc to help you understand and take on board their ideas and work, oh the cafe was good too. We did the shortest walk which was a simple introduction to the rewinding. An exceptional place to place to spend time at, understand re wilding, be enthused about it and if nothing else enjoy the good cafe.Thank you so much for your kind words David! We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit, got to enjoy the Café and all that the centre has to offer.Written 17 October 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2024
- Geraldine MAberdeen, United Kingdom2 contributionsRewild and Reconnect 3 day stayMy husband and I went on the 3 night Rewild and Reconnect visit earlier this month, partly because I had always wanted to see the centre and partly to mark his retirement. We enjoyed the break but also learned a lot from the very well informed and friendly staff. The area is beautiful in autumn and the work of the centre is impressive. The accommodation was good: small rooms but really clean and comfortable, and the food was excellent. We came away refreshed and with a renewed understanding of the highlands and the potential for rewilding. if you';re interested in Scottish landscapes and wildlife I can strongly recommend this trip.Hello Geraldine, Thank you so much for your kind feedback - we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your experience. I will feed this back to the team who will be delighted to hear you both had such a lovely time!Written 28 October 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 October 2024

As a long standing member of the rewilding charity Trees For Life, I was very keen to visit their recently opened rewilding centre.
Arriving at opening time, I started the day by following the two easier walking paths, both of which begin and end near the front door. The late September weather was unseasonally warm and sunny, and I very much enjoyed following the clearly-marked paths, which each took less than an hour to complete, and featured several information boards along the routes describing points of interest. Highlighted, for example, were a waterfall, some magnificent trees and some folk tales from the area.
After lunch in the excellent cafe, I had booked the guided visit to the on-site tree nursery, and it was fascinating to see and to learn about the young tree seedlings. These are sourced from local native stock, and are being cultivated and cared for until they are ready to plant out on the hillsides in order to contribute to the restoration of the native Caledonian Forest.
I then went on one of the two more strenuous and challenging walks, the Pine Path, which took me around 2½ hours to complete. This path took me further into the forest and up the hillside, and it afforded stunning views over the glen below. As with the easier, shorter walks earlier in the day, the route was clearly marked, although some parts of this path were marshy, and other parts quite steep.
Next on the day's plan was the guided rewilding walk. Our group was taken round the gentle Oak Path, and given detailed and fascinating insights about rewilding and stories about the area we were in.
Both of the guided tours, which each lasted around an hour, were led by the excellent Mollie, whose knowlege and enthusiasm made these tours hugely enjoyable.
I can't wait for the opportunity to return and to walk the fourth and final path, the most challenging one of all, the Heather Path. It offers an optional detour up to the top of the 375 meter high Binnilidh Bheag, and this is a challenge I can't wait to undertake.
The Dundreggan Rewilding Centre will surely establish itself as a must-see stop off for anyone with an interest in nature and in forest restoration in the highlands. I for one had a wonderfully enjoyable day in this very special place.

Wow! What an incredible week we just had with the family. 4 adults and 1 toddler stayed for 5 days in the new accommodation (An Spiris / the roost), enabling us to experience the full wonders of Trees For Life’s Dungreggen Estate. Firstly on the accommodation - it’s brand new, incredibly clean and modern, and perfect for short breaks. Beyond the rooms there is a very large common room with basic kitchen facilities which allow you to hang out in comfort when you’re back from a days walking. Inside the accommodation there’s also clever amenities available like a drying room for when you’ve been caught in the rain!
Breakfast is served in the brand new Rewinding Centre cafe, which also provides amazing ‘homemade’ lunches and salads until 16.30. This centre also has all the information about local walks, and the amazing work Trees For Life are undertaking to rewind the Scottish highlands. The staff are incredibly friendly and will answer any question for you. At the Rewinding Centre there are also daily tours of the tree-planting nursery, guided tours and walks and activities too for the younger audience (such as a mini beast tour!). The centre itself is amazing and you’ll find yourself relaxing there too.
It’s a wonderful experience, filled with great people, all sharing in your same desire for nature! Thank you for an amazing stay.

The Dundreggan Rewilding Centre created by Trees For Life has only been open six months but has already settled beautifully into the landscape, has attentive and knowledgeable staff and great tours, not only around the site itself but on the various tracks it has created into the Forest. The brand new accommodation was first class in our view and caters equally for the pubic and groups. We had a fantastic guided tour around the tree nursery. There is lots of information available regarding Trees For Life's volunteering opportunities and its leadership role in relation to species conservation and re-introduction. Having attended many conservation weeks in the 90s, at the birth of Trees For Life, it was wonderful to see the massively expanded vison for the future. It is also well-placed as a base from which to visit Loch Ness, Inverness, Fort Augustus and the iconic Loch Affric.

We enjoyed the facilities, hospitality and above all the environment of Dundreggan over the weekend 19-21 August. I am interested in trees and have planted trees all my life, so Dundreggan was inspirational. The educational approach was beautifully crafted and the use of Gaelic was encouraging and showing how the language and culture can be mainstream.

Dundreggan Rewilding Center is almost brand new. Opening the state of the art visitor center in April of 2023 . I was alone at Dundreggan , having rented a car and driven from Edinburg myself. Shortly, after dropping my daughter at University of Saint Andrew’s, I announced to her , that I must visit the Highlands, and the education and preservation mission of the Rewilding Center is exactly on point for how I view a sustainable future.
The facility is immaculate and the staff are friendly and helpful. I did not feel awkward being a solo traveler and was delighted to encounter interesting guests and a youtube production of 8 out of 10 bats was being shot while I was there.

We have just returned from 5 wonderful days at the Rewilding centre. The setting is spectacular. The staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and delightfully friendly. The accommodation is modern, bright well appointed and comfortable. The food in the cafe is very fresh, healthy and delicious. The rewilding centre is stunning. The Nursery tour and guided walks were breathtaking. Don’t miss this if you go to Loch Ness or if you are on your way to Skye better still just make it your destination as it shouldn’t be missed.

I visited with my three young children on Saturday 16 April - they day it opened in fact! Having grown up in the area I am delighted that there is now a centre dedicated to rewilding and how we can all play our part in working with nature. There were so many activities to keep the little ones occupied and we all loved the animation in the bothy (we spend a good amount of time in there, and the staff were happy to let us hang out for as long as we liked). There is also a play area and when we have more time, we look forward to exploring the trails too.
Had a coffee and snack in the cafe - the staff were so kind and welcoming despite my hectic brood and the Glen Lyon coffee was amazing. A new favourite place for us already. A must-visit, and free for general entry.

If you are in the area do find time to visit the centre it is lovely and well worth a visit. Lots of information about what they are trying to achieve through the rewinding initiative swell as clearly marked walks ( for all levels of walkers) and talks to help you see their hard work in action. The whole centre is dog friendly and the cafe alone is worth stopping in by for. Star fruit curry, strawberry mousse and sultana cake, all home made, to name just a few of the yummy things on offer. Plenty of parking and lots to see. A real wee gem of a place!

What a surprising experience!
We had a delicious lunch and went on a guided tour with Michael. This extremely informative tour could have lasted the entire day! Although we were already quite familiar with some facts we learned so much and were fascinated by the stories he told! Strongly recommended! The building itself is nicely setup!

I stayed at the new An Spiris accommodation at the Rewilding Centre for a week's photography work of the surrounding glens and forests. It was the perfect location to explore this spectacular part of the world. Really appreciated the no-fuss check in (collect your key card from a key safe and let yourself into your room!). The room was bright and clean and the communal kitchen/lounge was a great space - the only thing it was missing was a microwave to make life a little easier. The continental breakfast next door was fantastic each morning, with warm pastries, fresh coffee, cereals and fruit juices.
