Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hi Caroline,
Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad we were able to help but we'll also take onboard your point about information online. Over the winter we always look to review the information we have for visitors, and which bus stops connect with which attractions is something that we can include within this process.
I hope you enjoyed your time in Inverness and thanks again for helping us identify areas we can improve in.
Kind regards,
Ranald Gilbert, Area Manager

The Tourist Information Centre for Inverness and the local area is located in the city centre. If you have trouble locating it there are quite a few signposts around pointing you in the right direction as well as to various attractions in the city centre.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful in providing me with the information I needed.
As well as information there are also souvenirs to be purchased from the local area.
A much needed resource for visitors.

Thanks for leaving such a comprehensive and positive review. The team in the iCentre did quite a bit of work with the Council to try and improve signage so it's particularly pleasing to know that this has paid off and you found us easily.
I hope you enjoyed your time in the Highlands and that we will get the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
Kind regards,

We were extremely impressed by the staff here when we were recently touring the Highlands. The lady we spoke to was very well informed and our mini break soon became another holiday two weeks later. Thank you for all the advice and local knowledge. We thoroughly enjoyed our two holidays!
The office here is very well located in the busy Main Street.

If you come to Scotland, you want to be protected from rain and be exposed to great local food.
Thats the two things you will NOT find in the Inverness Tourist Centre Information point. When I came in, it was pouring with rain.
No ponchos, staff does not know where to buy it.
Where to go for local cousine? Oh, we dont know, we havent been out for a while...
You should have ponchos for free, ( ok, I would pay up to £2 at that point, I was soaking wet) you should have your staff trained to know where to go for certain foods.
No more questions. Waste of time.
Never again.
Relied on Tripadvisor for the rest of the trip.
Oh, got a map, thanks.

I'm sorry to hear that your experience didn't live up to your expectations when you visited us
I'll have a chat with the team as we have been working hard to ensure all our teams are up to date with what businesses are open and which restrictions they have in place if not operating normally. Therefore I'm surprised to hear that they were not able to direct you to local cuisine or even where you could purchase a poncho on the high street, but will use your feedback to ensure future visitors are able to obtain the advice and information they need.
Therefore I'm grateful to you for taking the time to leave a review as this not only helps us to gain an understanding of how you felt, but to improve our service provision in the future. I hope in the end you were able to find some suitable clothing for the weather and the type of local food you were looking for.
Kind regards,
Ranald Gilbert, Area Manager

I am arriving on a cruise ship to Invergordon on Thursday, May 2, 2024. I want to go to Bruar to see the Clan Donnachaidh Centre. What is the most inexpensive way to go there and back? I only have 7-8 hours to be safely back in time.

what are the hours of operation? do buses tend to be less expensive than taxis? what is a typical cost for a taxi?
Nigel B

Normal shop hours as far as I remember. As for Taxis and busses, busses are normally much cheaper and you can do even better by getting special day and week tickets. Going by bus also gives you much better views as you travel much higher up... Bus services in this area seem reliable and plentiful...

I am planning a trip for two of us, flying out of Belfast direct to Inverness, arriving approximately 11 am. Is the flight normally on time?
Would like to take a tour to Orkney leaving that same day if possible and staying two nights and three days. Am only seeing options for one such tour online. Are you able to provide me a link to other options? Thus far I have not heard from the one option.
Also, do the tours pick you up from the airport; and if not, how would we arrive at the tour departure place?
I must tell you I am impressed with your responses to both positive and negative issues travelers have voiced online about their experiences.
When we return from Orkney, have you an opinion for travel to Edinburg to the airport/that area?
I would be most appreciative for your replies.

Many thanks for your questions and for your feedback.
For multiple day tours of Orkney, two companies offer multiple day tours from Inverness - Highland Experience and Rabbies. Highland Experience run on the second Friday of every month starting in May until early September leaving at 9.00am and Rabbies operate every Monday from May - October departing at 8am. Both tours leave from Inverness Bus Station and offer package deals including accommodation and full information can be found on their websites.
Alternatively, it is possible to fly from Inverness to Orkney or take public transport with trains/buses/ferries from Inverness and to join a multiple day tour in Orkney. There are a number of tour operators based there and they are fairly flexible with a range of options to choose from. Further information can be obtained from the Kirkwall VisitScotland Information Centre. In order to travel to Orkney you can also take the John O' Groats Ferries bus from Inverness to Kirkwall, including the ferry, from June to August.
Transport from Inverness Airport into the City Centre is available either by a regular bus service or by taxi and transfer time is about 20 minutes.
Regarding transport to Edinburgh, you can travel by bus or train, as well as by flying directly from Orkney to Edinburgh.
If you need any more information, please do not hesitate to contact us directly via our link on the VisitScotland website. We'll be able to provide much more information including links and tour operator contact details if you contact us directly.
We wish you a wonderful trip to Scotland!
Kind regards
Alison

Is there transportation from where a cruise ship docks to town and how far is it?
Alison M
Inverness, UK
Dear Rob
Thank you for your enquiry.
Cruise ships dock in Invergordon which is 23.7 miles north of Inverness.
Stagecoach buses operate an hourly service between Invergordon and Inverness, service 25X, and the journey takes 45 minutes.
There is also a limited train service operated by Scotrail from Invergordon station to Inverness which takes 51 minutes.
Please be aware that timetables can change according to the time of the year and day of the week - there are sometimes more services available in the summer months for instance and fewer services on Sundays.
If you require any further specific information please contact us directly via the VisitScotland website.
kind regards
Alison, General Manager
Where can I hire a cruiser to sail on the Caledonian canal?
Alison M
Inverness, UK
Dear Robert
Many thanks for your enquiry. You can hire cruisers from Caley Cruisers who are based in Inverness, tel: 01463 236328, or from West Highland Sailing, based at Laggan Locks, approximately 45 miles south of Inverness on the Canal, tel: 01809 501234.
You haven't said when you're interested in visiting the area - please be advised that the Caledonian Canal will be closed to sea-to-sea traffic over the winter period for repairs from 4pm Friday 6th January 2017 until 9am Monday 20th March 2017 - some sections of the canal will be accessible during this time, details of which will be available on the Scottish Canals own website. If you require further information please do not hesitate to contact us which you can do directly via our VisitScotland website.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Highlands!
