Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Inverness! The city that’s closed to any sort of welcome after 3pm, or to eat anywhere. Six venues would not accommodate any hospitality, because they’re still in the 1950’s. Some using Covid to stick it to potential visitors with their own rules around service. Poor effort Inverness - won’t be back.

We asked the girl at the desk if they did the Book-Ahead accommodation service and she said that we should go to Waterstones!!!
We then noticed the desks at the back and went to them asked the same question. The young lad there looked rather blank but he did ask the lady standing behind him.
We did wonder whether he was on his first day of work experience as he did know even how to put the phone on hold!
We were asked what price range we were looking at - as we had no idea of the price in the area we couldn't really say. He then looked up some B & Bs in the area requested but had to ring each one to find out how much they were. In other Information Centres this has been on the computer screen. He did manage to fix us up with one - partly because by that time we'd lost the will to live and were running out of time on our parking ticket.
The member of staff whom we had presumed to be his mentor deserted him and went to gossip with her colleagues.

Hi Janet, Of course I'm disappointed to read a review where we failed to meet your expectations, but my first job is to thank you as your feedback is invaluable in finding ways to improve our service. I think one of the key issues that we have taken here to follow up with the staff is that it is vital that we don't make assumptions and remember that our visitors know what they need better than we do! Whilst the term Book-Ahead might have been unfamiliar to some of our staff (particularly those in their first season), the correct course of action is to find out more information rather than pick up on one aspect of it and try to guess the right answer - whilst Waterstones may be a great solution to finding books, it clearly wasn't the right option in this instance and as such we could and should have taken the opportunity to get more information from you before suggesting this to you. Clearly knowing how to use the phone is also a lesson that can be (and indeed we have) covered with the staff in the iCentre, although the procedure you outline (establishing an indication of budget along with other requirements/preferences, contacting the providers to confirm availability and price) is exactly what we require of staff when making accommodation bookings as our system does not hold live pricing and availability information. What is not in keeping with procedure or acceptable standards is to abandon a colleague (and by extension customer) in order to gossip with another member of the team. We have discussed your review with the team and reiterated these standards and will continue to monitor their delivery both directly and through customer feedback such as your own, taking action where required to support and reinforce them. On a positive note I am at least happy that despite your frustrations with the process you found your stay at Westhaven enjoyable. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and that you will find any future visits to iCentres to be a more positive experience in line with your expectations and indeed mine. Kind regards, Ranald Gilbert, Area Manager

I am very remiss in not posting this a long time ago. My father and I were in the area and had not made accommodation reservations as we didn't want to be locked into a schedule. Our first stop in Inverness was to the VisitScotland centre and we were extremely pleased. Rosalyn was absolutely delightful and made us a reservation, offered excellent advice on things to do in and around Inverness and recommendations of places to eat.

In addition to making accommodation reservations (for a small fee) and offering advice, the centre has a wealth of traveling information and items to purchase such as data cards, maps, batteries, etc. Again, a very good first stop upon arrival if you are not familiar with the area.

These folks saved me from myself. I wanted to go to a museum in a small town. They advised me that I would need a car as there was only one bus per day, each way! All I could have done was go and turn around and come back. They did not say "it is not worth it" anyway, but did imply that the little museum is not fully operational. I would have been really unhappy to have rented a car and then found that I had spent a lot of money for no good reason. Very good info on how to get to various castles by bus.

Although we first stopped by to simply ask where buses were being diverted due to a road closure, we quickly realized that the information center was an invaluable source of information and help.

We ended up stopping by several times during our couple of days in Inverness. During our first stop the very kind people walked us through the different tour options we could consider and even booked our tour for us. They also helped us navigate the local bus system so we could explore the area. Later, when we wanted to reserve a spot on a distillery tour, they came through and made the call for us, since we didn't have service overseas.

The people in the Inverness VisitScotland Information Centre were willing to help and answer any question, from long conversations to simple queries.

As an avid traveler, I always seek out the local information centre, if nothing else, as a means of acquiring the local transportation schedule. As a rule, there has always been something to disappoint...until I arrived in Inverness and utilized the Inverness Visit Scotland Information Centre...what a delightful experience! Never have I encountered a more knowledgeable staff! Everyone was able to answer every question I asked, their courtesy unequalled while doing so. As I utilized Inverness as my home, I visited the Centre almost every day as I required travel information for the many day trips I took across the Highlands. My experience in Scotland was made all the more enjoyable by the Inverness Visit Scotland Information Centre!

I had an extra day with no plans so stopped in the office. They were friendly and gave me a free map and good walking route to see some of the local sights.

I know the traditional sign for information outlet is the big "i "......but I just couldnt see it on the very busy street.
I was too busy following the many street signs ....tourist information >5 mins.....tourist information > 2 mins.....missed it, and its now tourist information > 2 mins back the other way. Once you do find it, the staff are great and have all the information you will ever need. We got one of the handy maps and they booked us on a great tour of Loch Ness.

I'm sorry to hear that it took longer than it should have to find us, but glad you found it worthwhile when you did! I hope you had an amazing trip to Loch Ness and indeed to the Highlands in general, and hope we might get the chance to welcome you back into the iCentre and Inverness in the future. I had to call in and visit the iCentre due to their wonderful service in sending me maps and guides which I had requested before travelling and the wonderful service by the ladies who answered my call.

This centre is fantastic and really does offer a wide range of information about news and events in Inverness and the Local Area, it's also extremely useful that they also provide literature on different areas of Scotland which is helpful!.

A must visit for anyone coming to Inverness

Hi Andy, I'm so grateful to you for taking the time to share your experience with your fellow travellers. It's great to hear that you were able to make use of the iCentre before you visited - a lot of people don't realise that we're here to help by telephone or e-mail as well as in person, and getting the information (and insider tips!) before you travel can really make a difference. Thank you again for the review and I hope you had a phenomenal time in Inverness! Kind regards, Ranald Gilbert, Area Manager
