Worth a visit when in Fort William
Don’t be put off by the jobsworth on the barrier. He’ll tell you you’re speeding when you’re not. I had 6mph on the clock (which is actually 4 mph) and he told us the car in front was on cctv as speeding. It wasn’t speeding either. He probably doesn’t get out much. The tour itself is a standard tour but our guide was really enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She explained the process and history of the distillery and answered questions about whisky making. A good place to spend an hour or so and of course, sample some of the whisky produced. Book ahead to secure a place

    Was see interesting
Our group really liked the tour of the Ben Nevis Distillery. Of course, our highlight was the tasting at the end of the tour. We learned a lot about whisky production. Depending on which tour you choose, you can end up tasting 2 (£12) or 4 (£20) different whiskies. However, you have to reserve the tour early enough, but you can then choose on the spot whether you prefer to taste 2 or 4 whiskies. As a driver you also have the option to fill the whisky into glasses, which you can then take with you.

    Good tour guide, lovely whisky
Well worth a tour. The friendly chap on the gate greeted us the day before when we popped by to book the tour and took our booking. Brian gave a really informative tour with some welcome dry wit along the way. Definitely worth paying the £8 extra to try 4 drams and not 2 at the end. The two extra ones were very tasty and the 10 year blend got mine and my wife's vote. Clean and tidy working brewery, I now know how it's made and have a new liking for whisky!! I can see why customers popping in to buy a bottle might feel marginalised when a tour is returning as the bar staff have to prepare all the drams on the bar (same place you buy a bottle) and you're likely to feel swamped when the tour returns but I still saw staff serving others and the tour is gone within 10-15 minutes.

    Highly enjoyable tour.
We had a wonderful time on the distillery tour. Staff were very welcoming and polite and the tour guide was amazing. The 4 wee drams at the end of the tour were superb and 2 bottles were purchased. Thank you for a lovely and informative tour.

    Great Service & Friendly Staff
We stopped in to pick up a bottle of whisky to commemorate our engagement, the staff in the bar/gift shop were so kind and talked us through the full range available. When they heard why we were there they even gifted us some glasses to go with the bottles we bought! Really great service and we felt very looked after despite the fact we had only popped for 10 minutes to pick up some whisky. Excellent staff, great atmosphere. We'll be back to do the tour!

    Truly Amazing Visit.
Visited this amazing distillery on 7/11/2024 and found it incredibly interesting. Connor was so kind and as I was unable to adventure all around the distillery with the coach party I was with. Connor really went above and beyond to make me feel part of the group and helped me understand the making/distilling process of this delightful Scottish Whisky. Tom was also great with his tour, I feel that Connor and Tom are a true credit to the distillery. In the gift shop/cafe at the distillery, I was helped by Hazel, who was also very kind. I feel anyone who visits Fort William should definitely stop by the BennNevis Distillery, it’s AMAZING. Thank you so much Connor for making sure my visit was fantastic and very interesting.

    Fantastic distillery tour and tasting!
We were lucky enough to have had a personalised tour with Connor who was fantastic. There was no question that the tour wouldn’t happen because there was just two of us. He was really welcoming and extremely knowledgable about the history, process and different types of whisky. The tasting was brilliant with us each trying four whisky’s and the engraved glasses were such a lovely surprise. We can’t rate it highly enough and would heartily recommend it - Connor was a star! Thanks for making our trip to Ben Nevis even better.
Hi Nick, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're so glad you enjoyed your tour with Connor.

    Unexpected jewel!
We had a great time at Ben Nevis Distillery! With the mountains in the background and several sites nearby used in well-known films, it was the perfect stop. Our tour guide, Hazel, did an excellent job explaining the processes and answered all of our questions. And the tour itself was not commercialized; you could tell this was truly a working distillery. The tastings at the end were so much fun and helped give me more of an appreciation for the subtle differences in the different whiskeys. I would highly recommend taking the time to stop by and experience the Ben Nevis Distillery.
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're so glad you enjoyed your tour - our guides strive to make the tours as personalised as possible. We will pass on your kind words to Hazel.

Over the years have done many distillery and brewery tours. On our last day in Scotland had a tour here.
My wife had suffered a fall so stayed in the cafe and enjoyed a coffee with others who did not take pert in the tour. She enjoyed this.
We had a younger member to guide us as our party was split into two. A very nice amble around the site and our guide was very informative and pleasant and made his information interesting and not overly detailed as I have found previously.
A really enjoyable tour and free samples in the cafe afterwards.
There was a good selection of food/drink in the cafe and of course the chance to buy whiskey.

The staff at this distillery is lovely. Our tour guide, Carol, was very sweet and had some interesting facts to share. The tour itself lasted just over half an hour, and as the month of July is their silent month there was no production going on. Overall very interesting and enjoyable, would recommend to go after July if you’re interested in seeing more of the production side. Only thing was that at the end, we felt a bit rushed to try our four whiskeys as we had to get out of the tasting room for them to clean up for the next group.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your tour with Carol and we will pass on your thanks. We are sorry that the end of the tour felt rushed, we have only recently started using a dedicated tasting room and we gladly receive any feedback regarding this part of the experience. We will look at ways in which we can ensure a more relaxed ending to the tasting.

A tiny craft distillery where Carol, our tour guide, lead you through the 4 stages of the Scotch Whisky production. It ends with a testing of local produced Scotch Whiskies. Unfortunately only on red could be night at place. An quick interesting discovery of a local produced product. Thank!

What a delightfully old fashioned place. This distillery does not go out of its way to advertise its wares but it’s well worth a visit.
On arrival we were greeted by Susan who turned out to be receptionist, bartender, tour guide, cook and waitress and probably a few other things too that I’ve forgotten. She was great. Although we didn’t take the tour we were still shown the stills and received some generous measures whilst deciding which bottles to buy.
When we arrived we were the only ones there and whilst we were there only about a dozen other people turned up. I can see why some people have been disappointed when there have been a lot of people visiting - it’s much more suited to small groups. So if there’s a coach in the car park and you can, my advice would be to come back later

Our little boy wanted to see how whiskey was made but all the distillery’s we looked at taking him to originally were either fully booked, adult only or ridiculously expensive. We called in on passing the Ben Nevis distillery on our journey Saturday and they were doing tour’s each hour, it was £5 per adult and 2.50 for children which is very reasonable we had a 40 minute tour of the factory, the staff member was very knowledgable and provided historical background to the production. Adults got a small amount of whiskey to try afterwards and my son was given a free keyring, they sold the different whiskeys made in miniature bottles for 3.80 a good option if you don’t want to buy a large bottle. The cafe didn’t appear to be open and there wasn’t a gift shop as such just opportunity to buy whiskey if you wanted. For the price of a tour in comparison with a lot of other distillery’s nothing to complain about.

Booked a whiskey tour at the distillery as we were staying in Glencoe, not far from Fort William. Tom our tour guide was brilliant, really engaging and you could tell he had a genuine interest in the history of the distillery and the whiskeys we were tasting. He really made our trip. Would highly recommend! A bargain for the money.

Tom and Gordon made our Ben Nevis Distillery tour absolutely exceptional! Tom’s expertise during the tour was fascinating - he expertly explained the whisky-making process and answered all our nerdy chemistry questions with incredible detail. Gordon complemented the experience perfectly with his incredible knowledge and hilarious commentary, keeping us laughing throughout the visit.

The tour was informative, engaging, and truly memorable. From understanding the intricate steps of whisky production to enjoying the delightful tasting at the end, every moment was fantastic. The staff’s warmth and passion for their craft shone through, making this much more than just a standard distillery tour.

If you’re in Fort William, this is an absolute must-visit. Tom and Gordon are true ambassadors for Ben Nevis Distillery, transforming a simple tour into an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

We previously visited the distillery 6 years ago and really enjoyed the tour, the cafe and the shopping experience afterwards.

We visited today (29/08/24) and were bitterly disappointed. We didn't do the tour due to time constraints, instead calling into the cafe and shop. They've merged the two and have a far smaller selection of available whiskies to taste and buy.

There were 2 blends on offer and 3 single malts. We opted for the single malts to taste (no flights available so just a pay as you go).

The glasses really need to go through a very hot wash and have a sponge across the rims. The whisky selection available was poor, nothing interesting or exiting. It's almost like they've given up after covid. This was our third distillery of the week and the others have stepped up their experiences and ranges over the years.

We didn't end up buying any bottles there and, unless things change for the better, probably never will again.

Next time we are up this way we may call in, but depending on what we find, we may just turn around and leave.

Just got back from a week in Fort William, climbing the Ben and during our stay we called in just on the off chance of a tour. Upon pulling up at the gate we were unsure if it was open but we’re soon met by a happy chap who took our temps etc and seemed genuinely interested in where we were from, where we had been etc, it was a very warm welcome indeed.
Once inside we enquired about a tour but then the phone rang and had to wait to be seen. We overheard the phone call saying all yours that day were full but he gestured to us to wait. Once he finished his call he told us that he could get us on the next tour, starting in 5 minutes.
The tour was great, very informative and educational about the history of the distillery and how whisky is made. At the whisky tasting our tour fee included one taste each but not being whisky drinkers it was great to be given several samples so we could compare the malts etc. We obviously expected a bill for the extra tastes but the guide was was fantastic and went through each sample with us without an extra fee. We did indeed buy a bottle and will be ordering our preferred choice once they have it back in stock.

All in all, an excellent tour, lead by great staff. Highly recommended for your stay.

The experience and hospitality provided by Ben Nevis distillery and staff was simply exceptional!
From first entering the distillery, being greeted by Susan and Brian to the actual tour and tasting of this incredible whisky, it was truly phenomenal from start to finish.
Susan's hospitality and knowledge of the whisky was fantastic. Great fun and made us feel so welcome.
Thanks to Heather for taking us around the distillery at very short notice and making our flying visit to the distillery as best it could be for out short period of time.
Couldn't rate them highly enough.
