Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I walked with 5 friends from Fort William to Kingshouse over two days guided by Mike. Why have a guide for The West Highland Way? Living with Parkinson’s is no reason not to get out there, but having an experienced guide keeps everything safe. Mike was so positive and encouraging. He has a great knowledge of the area, it’s history and geology which he shares in the most interesting way. We learned so much, we experienced the most spectacular scenery and thanks to his inclusive attitude I got the opportunity to do this. Thank you so much, can’t wait for the next section!!

The hike up to Ben Nevis can be done by anyone in reasonably good shape, but it’s a long journey, and it’s important to start slowly in the first hour. There are no treacherous sections on the trail, and the summit plateau is vast. Remember to allow plenty of time for the descent, and if possible, take a swim in the water on the way down; it’s a good recovery because the downhill is tough on the legs.

We had a fantastic day! Weather made going to the top of Ben Nevis inadvisable. Our guide, Sally, improvised and instead took us up Meall Cumhann past Steall Falls. It was a gorgeous hike. So many waterfalls. Highly recommend this company.

Our guide Ewan was very kind and attentive to the group, and it was a delight to meet all of the other walkers and chat along the way. This is a really great option for a solo walker or smaller groups looking for more company along your walk. Highly recommend!

Mike has been on several adventures with us over the years including; scrambles in Glencoe, scrambles up Ben Nevis, climbing sea stacks in Lochinver and up not 1 but 2 Cuillin traverses. In every adventure we have felt in the safest of hands and have been guided with the upmost confidence and reassurance in our abilities. When conditions have turned, our guides have known exactly what to do and when to do it to ensure everyone's safety
(including their own).
Mike and all the guides that work with Abacus are kind-natured, patient, passionate in what they do and their wicked sense of humour is most welcome. They have made every experience (even in the driech-est of conditions) fun and memorable and for that we would highly recommend Abacus Mountain Guides to anyone looking for an unforgettable day in the hills!

Using ABACUS we went up the Ben Nevis the 25 of august this year. It is always wonderful to have a super professional and passionate guide with you who is alert to every member of the team (young or old)! Such a treat it was! We really enjoyed the effort to get to the top, feeling safe and made much easier and much more enjoyable by the knowledge, tips, encouragement and..... patience of our guide.
Will recomend the firm anytime, any day for their commitment to making your walk to the top, and not the least back again, a good one!. Thanks again for the amazing experience of taking on Ben Nevis !

I had an excellent guide in Innes who was with Abacus Mountain Guides. I had issues with equipment and on the decent with my knee. He showed true professionalism by shepherding me down Ben Nevis while moving between the group. I highly recommend Abacus for the effort Innes showed. 10/10 I will be recommending this company to others.

Wonderful to be able to climb Ben Nevis with our experienced guide Micheál. He was great company, very knowledgeable about mountain wildlife and the local area. Very supportive and a great motivator for when the going got tough. Highly recommended.

Dear Mike,

I wanted to write and thank you, and Sally, for the most amazing Mountain Leader Assessment experience. Very few of my colleagues would dare put the words 'amazing' and 'ML Assessment' in the same sentence but I can do with real sincerity.

From the moment I booked your course online you have been accomodating, welcoming and very encouraging. Your online resources were very useful and so applicable. Information about the course was clear and so easy to work with.

I really appreciated the way that you and Sally were always so calm, sincere, curious and encouraging. You gave us instant and relevant feedback and I came away having learnt so much more than when I started the week. Thank you for being intentional about getting us all to relax and ease into the assessment from Day One. Your programme has been clearly thought out and staged so that the harderst sections are thread in between periods of less intensity. At the same time, it is clear that you both have very high expectations and standards that you are proud to uphold.

If anyone were to ask me about who to recommend taking them on their ML Assessment I will not hesitate to put Abacus forward.

Thank you most, most sincerely for a truly fantastic week with so many highlights within it.

I hope you and Sally get some brighter, drier days to end this 'summer' and that it is not too long before we are back in the beautiful Scottish Highlands again. It is becoming one of my most favourite places in the UK...

Best wishes to you all,

Regards,

Sarah
