The perfect way to see the West coast of Scotland. We could not have been looked after better by Mary and Scott: delicious home cooking, an array of Scotch whiskey and Gins to sample every evening. Scott has a detailed knowledge of the region, its footpaths and its wildlife. His quiet confidence in his seamanship left us feeling completely safe whatever the weather and the twisty currents threw at us. They are a great team and deserve every success.

After our first Red Moon cruise in 2017 we were hoping for another visit but at 87 we thought it unlikely with the distance between south Herts and Oban ! We were delighted when our son-in-law suggested we might like another visit with them. Would we ???! We were not disappointed. Keeping in touch with Mary and Scott over the last three years, watching their website and blogs, meant that we were returning to see old friends. Judith and Paul settled in well and found the same welcome. We left the stateroom for them while we enjoyed the very cosy single berths.
Booked in February it looked as though Covid might put an end to our hopes, but opening up of hospitality came at just the right time for a great week aboard Red Moon.
This time we started from Dunstaffnage and cruised the sea lochs between Mull and the mainland. J+P took their tandem kayak and had their expeditions each day in a different location while the oldies enjoyed RM's comforts and hospitality. The weather was mixed west highland (!!) but with some fabulous days. One stormy crossing of the Firth of Lorn on the last full day of the cruise demonstrated what a great sea-boat Red Moon is. Food, as anticipated, was again absolutely magnificent.
Mary and Scott are so helpful, caring and understanding of all ages, so we would recommend even for the very senior citizens with limited mobility looking for a special and very different type of holiday. experience.
The cabins are lovely, the wheelhouse and saloon/galley are wonderful inside spaces, and the decks are spacious for the four guests. There is so much to see with great scenery and wildlife which you can never see from the land.
Just go for it!

What a fantastic few days we had on Red Moon. Everything was perfect (well apart from the weather but it is Scotland!) and exceeded our expectations. We felt in safe hands at all times and loved the locations that Scott and Mary suggested for us to visit - whether that was mooring for lunch with an incredible view and only the sound of visiting dolphins or great walks with no one else around. It was all so relaxing and we loved nothing more than sitting on deck and watching the incredible scenery unfold. All meals and drinks were exceptional.

Thank you Scott, Mary and Red Moon.

Our four fabulous nights aboard Red Moon exceeded all our expectations. We were encouraged by the professionalism of Mary & Scott in the process of making the booking and this continued with exceptional service provided throughout the cruise. The attention to detail both from Scott in skippering the boat and from Mary in offering advice about where to visit and preparing meals was outstanding. Scott took us to places in the Small Isles that we will never be able to visit again due to his knowledge of the area and his technical skill handling the boat. On board Red Moon the quality of accommodation is first class and the variety and quality of the food prepared and presented by Mary was of a standard that you would only find in a top class restaurant. There are not enough superlatives to do it justice. The wildlife, the scenery, the overall experience was far more than we had expected and that was all due to the utter professionalism of Scott and Mary.

Scott and Mary have created a unique cruising experience in Red Moon, a 50 foot, 70-year-old former military craft and fishing vessel now converted to luxury cruiser. Red Moon is small enough to be chartered by a couple yet large enough to provide luxurious space and facilities. Combine this with professional management, an experienced skipper, a 5 star chef, the scenery and the wild life off the West Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and you create a world class experience.

We have been privileged to enjoy this experience for 5 days in early September and, as well as being blessed with 2 days of glorious sunshine, we visited all of the Small Isles and Skye, lunched and overnighted in spectacular sheltered loch anchorages, saw dolphins, porpoises, minke whales and an eagle circling overhead.

Scott and Mary work together as a well disciplined and managed team with Scott being principally responsible for the safety, navigation, and operation of the vessel and Mary producing 5 star meals from her small galley and assisting with docking and anchoring. However, as with any good team, these roles can be interchanged.

This is a ‘high end’ experience but it is worth every penny …… and more.

Whilst all of the food is locally sourced and absolutely superb please ensure that you put in a special request for Mary’s chocolate cake and her ‘fluffy’ scrambled eggs!

This is definitely one to add to your ‘bucket list’.

We were very lucky to be able to spend a week on board Red Moon during the first week of May 2021.We had no idea of what to expect and neither had Mary and Scott! Our first evening at anchor in a quiet loch dispelled any questions we may have had.Whilst Mary prepared dinner, Scott took us ashore by tender and we spent an hour walking the loch shore exactly as requested pre cruise. Dinner was delicious; a plate of crevette,
a seafood casserole and chocolate cake with a compote of plums with cream. The wine was a Gavi which matched perfectly. This was the first day. All seven were in an identical vein. Mix in the excitement of wild encounters with sea eagles, dolphins,Minke whales, puffins and otters with fascinating places of historical interest and spectacular scenery , and you have the recipe for a perfect holiday.Mary and Scott were excellent hosts and as a result we have booked for next year.

We had a fantastic relaxing time. We were totally spoilt. Saw amazing wildlife and had some great walks. We loved Mary’s fabulous cuisine. The boat was so comfortable with great amenities. Mary and Scott are an amazing team - nothing was too much trouble and they are skilled at providing a personalised experience which was second to none.

A unique and wonderful experience - a beautiful boat; stunning scenery and wildlife; sumptuous meals with lovely wines; and gorgeous Scottish gins and whiskeys with aperitifs and/or as a nightcap, watching the sun set below one of the islands.

Scott and Mary are brilliant hosts and it is a privilege to have sailed on Red Moon. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Scott, Mary & Redmoon gave us a few days to remember as we lived like celebs cruising the Lochs of West Scotland. Amazing views and fantastic food along with Scott and Mary's great company all contributed to an experience which was very special. We were able to decide where we cruised over breakfast each morning taking into consideration weather, tides and how we felt. This allowed us to enjoy walks, wildlife spotting and even an open water swim. There was never a point where we felt unsafe or even unwell as Scott navigated the waters to make sure all was calm. Mary provided some of the best and beautifully presented food and wine we have eaten on any of our well travelled holidays. A first class experience. Thank you.

We were looking for a unique experience to celebrate our Golden Wedding anniversary and Red Moon and her crew Scott and Mary, gave us this in spades! We really appreciated their local knowledge in finding isolated parts of the area that would never otherwise have been accessible to us, with the daily opportunity for a wild walk thrown in. The care, consideration and creativity in catering for dietary requirements was outstanding as were the daily culinary delights. The wildlife sightings, so expertly spied and sought out, were a key element of the experience as was the opportunity to learn more about navigation and seamanship! Red Moon was a stable, amazingly comfortable and secure cocoon on the water and was an experience which we hope to repeat in the future.
