We had an amazing time with Skye tours despite a delayed start. We were originally meant to be picked up in Portree but our City Link bus from Fort William was running late. Thankfully, our driver Rody was kind enough to collect us from Kyle of Lochalsh instead.

Even though Rody was feeling a bit under the weather, he provided brilliant commentary throughout the tour and gave us fascinating insights into the history and culture of the places we visited. His passion for the Isle of Skye really shone through.

The scenery was breathtaking! Rody took us to all the top spots and vantage points so we could fully appreciate the mesmerizing views. He also entertained us with his witty sense of humor and jokes.

Overall, this was a fantastic tour and we'd highly recommend it to anyone wanting to explore the Isle of Skye in a short time. Rody was a wonderful guide who made the places come alive with his personal anecdotes and deep knowledge of the area. The Scottish people are so friendly and welcoming.

Thank you Rody and Skye tours for providing us with such special memories on this trip! It was a highlight of our time in Skye and we loved it fully.
Cheers!

Without a doubt the best way to see the island as the roads are hard work. Rob was a great guide telling us stories ( not all true !!!!!) and made the whole day brilliant. The weather was half decent so the trip to the Fairy Pools was brilliant. Rob also played traditional Scottish music and some proclaimers for a sing song on the coach. What more would you need.

Roddy, in traditional dress, gave us an unforgettable day, showing us a lot of Skye and telling us a lot about it. However, without Moira in the office, it almost wouldn't have happened. The minimum number of participants is 3, there were two of us.

Be prepared for ANYTHING as far as weather— we were lucky to have a mostly sunny day! Also don’t take this tour if you have motion sickness! Ron was an excellent and informative tour guide and took us to many of the key sites, covering most of the island. The van was comfortable and the windows were spotless. You can see a lot without getting out of the van, but if you want to see everything be prepared to walk and climb (18k steps!) Also boots would be helpful going to the fairy pools as you have to cross a couple streams ( 2 foot bridges under construction that should be finished soon). Wear a jacket— very windy!

The same review has been left on the agent "Seaprobe Atlantis" I book their tour through of. I was too naive to think that they would reply my email with the following concern with explanation. They have not replied at all. So I think I better to alert as many travelers re what happened to my friend and i as I can by sharing the following experience with a tour coordinated by this tour company:

My friend and I have just joined their 5 hours tour this June. We had a very unpleasant experience with it. I have communicated and booked the tour online around a month ago by giving out details of our itinerary and plan. We have clearly listed that we need to be picked up at Portree (which will cost $20 pounds per person as it has clearly listed on their website) and dropped off at Kyle for catching the following two trains we have booked in advance. I have also clearly stated that we will be joining the tour with our backpacks. Everything was confirmed by email individually with no problem.

ON the tour day, however, we met the driver who was late - first of all. We then have been given a very unwelcome greeting and told that he does not expect to see us getting on board with our backpacks - that made us looked very embarrassing in front of the rest of the group! Secondly, when we were confirming with the driver that if the drop-off stop was Kyle. He asked how much we paid. We said " $20 pounds per person." Then he said "NO" and he would only drop us off back at portree. We were like "WHAT!?" He then said if we need to go to Kyle, we have to pay extra "10 pounds per person."

It turned out that...1) we have to carry our backpack on my laps for the entire time in the vehicle and...2) we PAID EXTRA $20 pounds on site or we will be either dropped off at Portree & not be taken to KYLE (note: they have stated clearly on the website & confirmed in the email that the last drop off point was Kyle and $20 pounds/person if picked up at POrtree)

Anyway, we PAID THE EXTRA $20 pounds plus holding our backpack for the entire time for few hours on the road. IT has totally ruined our day in the Skye. I have tried to email the person I have communicated with Saturday morning. I still have not received any reply yet. Hope they may....just may get back to me with a reasonable explanation and advise. To us, it was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

Therefore, I personally do not know what to recommend other travelers to do as I was like everyone else trust the company 100% in the beginning. :( Guys, just be careful.

If you may not want to have the same unpleasant experience, you may consider to find another way to get to Kyle and spend a day before to join other DAY TOUR in Skpe. You definitely can see more and have a way better time. The 5 hours tour is not giving you much to explore and the majority time was on the road. And, we have joined a tour a day before and that was amazing but not from the same company.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I can only back up what the previous reviewer has said - these people really are a bunch of clueless clowns. I sent them an email to make a booking, asking how I can pay in advance. I didn't receive a reply (I should have known at this stage what they were like), and so rang up and they told me they had already booked me. I confirmed the booking and asked if I could pay by credit card straight away over the phone - he told me to pay them on the day.
So on the day we made the two and a half hour journey from Inverness just to go on this tour. We arrived at the departure point ten minutes before the bus was due to leave. There was no sign of any sort of minibus at all, or anybody from the company. With two minutes to go before the bus was due to leave, I went into the tourist information centre to confirm I was in the right place, and they told me it had already left. Apparently if you haven't paid in advance they will just ignore you.
So this is a company that doesn't actually let you pay in advance, but will go without you if you haven't, even when you have a confirmed booking, and they have your name and phone number. The bus also leaves before the advertised departure time.
Like the previous reviewer said, avoid at all costs.

Rabbies Tours located on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh Scotland (and other countries as well) offered wonderful 1, 3 and 5 day tours through Scotland. For those not familiar with Rabbies Tours, the groups are small - no more than 16 people so the experience is more intimate. I would say that it attracted a mixed crowd. We traveled with our grown children (ages 20 and 22). There were young couples, students studying abroad and older couples as well on the tour. Rabbies is an a la carte service. Your fee includes transportation and a guide. They will ask what type of hotel you would like to stay in, i.e. hostel, bead and breakfast or hotel, and they will do the booking for you. Lodging is payed for on site. We had our lunches as a group but we went our own way for dinners. We were given wonderful recommendations for restaurants.

While we thoroughly enjoyed the one day tours to both St. Andrews and the Whiskey distilleries, I would recommend if you have a few days to spare, their 3 day tour to the Isle of Skye and the Highlands. This really was the highlight of our trip. Our tour guide, Sara Mackenzie who hails from both Skye and the Highlands really has a passion for her homeland and imparted much history of the area interspersed with both traditional and contemporary Scottish music. We stayed in the harbor town of Portree on the Isle of Skye and chose a bed and breakfast with views that overlooked the beautiful harbor town.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes because the guides have you doing some exploring. We got our exercise visiting the sites. I can't say enough about the scenery, the mountains, the heather filled moors, the glens and castles. If I say more there won't be any surprises.

Our driver/guide informed us upon starting the tour that he had only done this six times before and it wasn’t his normal job but due to a wedding, he had to lead our tour. Commentary from the guide was very limited during the trip and almost none during the last harrowing hour of the trip. What commentary there was was about fights against authority or how stupid tourists were to stop on the road to take pictures of water (waterfalls). The seats on the bus were also narrow and uncomfortable. The people sitting over the wheel wells had to put their feet up on the wheel well or put their legs to the side.
While these transgressions noted above were bad, the most egregious was his aggressive driving back to Kyle. He was concerned the train passengers would miss the last train out at 5:13pm. The roads on Skye are twisting two lane (and in some cases one lane). In our 17 passenger van, he passed at least two cars and even another tour bus on these roads at excessive speeds!
The lack of commentary (history of the island or Scotland, historic and scenic sites, storytelling) and the reckless drive back unfortunately give this tour one star.

We were very sorry that you did not rate your tour more highly. As others on the same tour commended both your tour and tour guide highly, it's clear that different people on the same tour can have very different experiences. This is not to diminish the relevance of your own feedback - just to put it into some perspective. For example, you may have felt that the tour guide drove at 'excessive speeds' on the way back - but since the bus cannot exceed the speed limit at any time, he clearly did not drive at excessive speeds. I believe, also, that being from the US, you may be unfamiliar with the winding roads we have here on Skye - but will assure you that your tour guide is very familiar with these roads and so able to drive safely and comfortably at speeds that seemed excessive to you but were, in fact, at all times well within the speed limit.

Wow, what a great trip and a bargain. I recently traveled with my two adult Children to the Isle of Skye. The trip was well paced, despite the long distances, and the stops were leisurely. The scenery in the Highlands and the Isle of Skye was spectacular. The Loch Ness was a little underwhelming but still worth seeing for all the myths, etc. The group included adults of all ages and nationalities. The guide, Duncan, was incredible: witty, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. You could tell he really enjoyed his work and sharing the history of Scotland.. When we made stops, he didn't just sit in the van but joined us and gave us more information. He also played beautiful Scottish music for the times when he was not giving out information. I plan to take a Rabbies tour again and would seek out a tour given by Duncan, for sure!

I made a reservation in advance to tour the Isle of Skye by minibus on July 15. I arrived at the tourist office in Kyle to find out that the tour had been cancelled because there weren't enough people. If I had know they would only go with a minimum number of people I would have made other arrangements. I had only two days in Kyle. I could have gone to Skye on Saturday if I had known this tour was going to be cancelled. I had to leave for Aberdeen the next day. I was visiting from Honolulu, Hawaii, so that cancellation meant I never got to see the Isle of Skye that I had come so far to see.

I overheard the telephone conversation between the employee at the tourist office and the owner (or general manager) of Skye Tours (the same owner also owns Seaprobe Atlantis). It seems that their driver took off to Inverness when he heard that there was only one person booked for the Sunday tour (me) and he knew the company wouldn't run the tour with only one person going. However, by Sunday morning, about eight people had signed up for the tour and the company had no back up drivers. All eight people were very disappointed. I prefer not to deal with a company that behaves in such an unethical manner, selling tickets on tours they don't intend to honor. I could easily have rearranged my schedule and gone with another tour on Saturday if I had been given any advance notice. I got a refund, but big deal, I never got to the Isle of Skye.
