I did both of these journeys whilst on holiday in Scotland last week. I thought they were two of the most scenic railways I have even ridden on. The day I went to Kyle was... read more

A train journey through some beautiful scenery - mountains, moors and coast to arrive in Kyle. The small museum at Kyle Station was interesting.

I did both of these journeys whilst on holiday in Scotland last week. I thought they were two of the most scenic railways I have even ridden on. The day I went to Kyle was almost cloudless and I managed to take a boat trip on the glass bottomed boat which was also one of the best boat trips I... More

Took a day trip from the Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness and back. The line hugs the loch side for a number of miles and we saw Porpoises and an array of seabirds. The scenery then changed as we went through the mountains where we saw lots of deer as the sun started to set on the way back. We... More

I have driven to road on many occasions and even stayed in the Achnasheen Hotel but I finally got to take the 10:58 from Inverness to Kyle. Great little 2 carriage train, complete with a drinks service. The weather was moody that added to the great scenery that passed the window. Tip, sit on left hand side on trip from... More

An excellent trip overall, but a bit of a slow burner. First hour is so, so, but things improve and yes the views are stunning. It's just a long old time to be on a train to see another mountain, another valley, another loch......... Maybe slightly tainted by the awful service at Hector's Bothy in Kyle and the fact it... We travelled the full length of the line from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. It’s a glorious journey lasting about two and a half hours. In that time you go the full width of the country, from sea to shining sea (well, more or less anyway). I don’t think the train goes much more than 30 MPH for the whole... More

This part of Scotland has nice views and railway track passes near small ponds and river. You can spot deer and wild life.
