About
Since 1898, the BenRiach Distillery has very quietly been producing quality single malt scotch whisky, which has only ever been enjoyed in very small quantities, by a few discerning individuals who have been fortunate enough to come across a bottle. Today, BenRiach continues to produce its very special Single Malt Whiskies, as an Independent Distiller. Situated in the 'Heart of Speyside', just south of Elgin, we distil whisky from both styles of malted barley, non-peated and peated. Connoisseur's tours are available by appointment only and are available on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS at 10AM and 2PM. See the Visit Us section on the website for more details.

- BeckyBinghamton, New York211 contributionsA small distillery with a big personality! We’d booked in advance for the afternoon tour on a Friday in October and ended up being the only party there. Our tour guide Emma was absolutely phenomenal and definitely made the tour what it was. Whilst 2 of our party were keen whisky drinkers familiar with distilleries, 1 of us was new to the overall process and Emma was very engaging at teaching! The tour itself was highly interesting, very visual and with Emma’s added humour made it an all round enjoyable experience. At the end of the physical tour we headed back to the bar area and sampled 3 unique whisky’s. One malted, one traditional and one smoked - a brilliant variety! We also got to experience making our own cocktail. All of us left very happy with our purchases from the gift shop!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 October 2023
- Jacob W1 contributionA lovely morning. We were greeted by Emma, who was very warm and inviting to the visitor Centre. We were treated very hospitably before our tour, we then met Hannah, who was a very happy young woman who gave us a very personal and informative tour. She was very happy to take questions or spend more time in certain areas than others. They even went above and beyond to show us some certain whisky types in the warehouse. And was a very chatty and overall lovely person to take us through our visit to the distillery. Overall great experience.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 March 2024
- Burgher8211 contributionsDon’t overlook this Speyside gem!An excellent whisky tour. Not to be missed We were in the Speyside area only a short time and squeezed in 2 distillery tours. We were intentional to choose a large distiller and a smaller one to compare and contrast. While the ‘big’ distiller was glitzy, Benriach was authentic, professional, personal and amazing. Lianne was our guide and was exceptionally knowledgeable. She was informative, interesting and interested! And the whisky tasting was great. Great experience all around. Don’t overlook this gem. Do the Barley to Barrels tour and try some excellent whisky.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 July 2024
- Glenn Graham3 contributionsGreat tour and exceptional whiskyAn amazing distillery tour. Our guide, Lianne, was knowledgeable about both the technical aspects of whisky and the distillery's history. She showed us every aspect of the distillation process. The best part of the tour, besides the tasting, was the trip through the barrel warehouse. Lianne knew how to find the unique barrels and provided the backstory of those barrels. The tour ended with a tasting of five whiskies. Unlike other distilleries, Benriach pulled for us to sample, including a 2005 port-aged whisky and a 21-year-old peated whisky. Everything we tasted was exceptional. We ended up purchasing several bottles as the on-site prices beat the prices that we saw in Edinburg whisky shops. I highly recommend this tour. It has given me a new favorite whisky!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 July 2024
- Alexander K26 contributionsBenriach TourVisiting Benriach distillery was an unforgettable experience, made even better by our amazing tour guide, Emma. From start to finish, the tour was both incredibly informative and nerdy in the best possible way. Emma's depth of knowledge and passion for whisky-making really shone through, making the entire visit feel like a deep dive into the art and science of whisky. The highlight of the tour was without a doubt the warehouse. Seeing the vast variety of casks and learning about the different types of wood they use at Benriach was absolutely fascinating. Emma introduced us to unique casks like Chinese oak and Mizunara oak, both of which added layers of excitement and curiosity to the visit. Learning how these unusual wood types impact the whisky was such a cool and unexpected twist! Having Emma as our guide made it even more special. Her expertise on the different barrels and aging processes really brought the experience to life. She had an answer for every question and shared insights that went beyond the surface, giving us a truly in-depth look at what makes Benriach such an innovative and exciting distillery. If you’re into the technical side of whisky and want to explore some really unique cask aging methods, a tour at Benriach is a must—especially with a guide like Emma!Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 September 2024

Did a fairly last-minute booking for BenRiach last week. We also ended up booking both the sense of flavour tour (with Emma) and the barrels, butts, and bariques tour (with Ieva) since we had a lot of time to kill that day since we couldn't check in to our hotel until much later in the day and we had already checked out the other distilleries in the area that we were interested in. Both Emma and Ieva are very knowledgable and led us through great tastings. The former tasting was about the whisky making process (and in that sense closer to doing a tour whilst tasting whiskies) while the latter was about the effect of different types of casks (e.g., burgundy vs madeira vs virtgin oak, etc.) on whisky. One of the most enjoyable distillery visits I've ever been on.

Emma guided me through the sense of flavour experience and I had a wonderful time. Emma shared the past history of BenRiach with recent changes and of course recent bottlings. There are no current tours to keep the production staff safe, but this was whisky production in a sensory box. Just fantastic.
Then onto 4 samples from the core range, 10 and 12, original and smoky. All tasted great and sharing side by side to compare. We finished with a great cocktail which could definitely be made at home as all ingredients easily got at the supermarket. So refreshing and I’ll definitely be having on a hot summers day.
Emma was a wonderful host and fabulous ambassador for BenRiach

Visited the Distillery with guests from England, was warmly welcomed by Hannah who looked after us throughout the visit. Great selection of tastings, Hannah extremely knowledgeable and passionate on her explanation of the various whiskies and history of Benriach. A very enjoyable first experience at the Distillery and will definitely be back with guests, visitors and clients of Alba Whisky Tours and Tastings. Highly recommended.

This was a fantastic distillery tour which was both fun and educational. Our guide, Georgina, was utterly charming and really knowledgeable about the whiskies and the whole distilling process. She made everything very easy to understand. At the end of the tour we were given some samples to try and unusually, we got to make a cocktail based on BenRiach whisky which was a nice twist on the usual distillery experience. BenRiach will definitely feature in our drinks cabinet at home in the future. It's a great tasting dram!

We booked the Barley to Barrels whisky tour with Emma L. It was very well organised and Emma certainly knew her stuff: combining an impressive knowledge of statistical information and interesting comparisons with other distilleries. The five samples we were given showed off the BenRiach range and allowed us to marvel at the skill of the distiller. Two hours passed very quickly and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I was excited to visit having bought a cask of BenRiach and keen to see where it had been made. Sadly on entering the visitors centre we were told abruptly 'no dogs' and when I then try to have a wander outside was told by a second staff member again abruptly that was not allowed. We had hoped to buy a couple of bottles but didn't feel inclined to do so - happily there are plenty of options locally to do so.

The distillery visit was very informative and interactive. Emma was a fun guide and made the tour enjoyable as well as educational. We then sampled some delicious whisky in their lovely tasting room. All eight of us enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. One of our group of eight did not drink so they set her up with some tea as well! Highly recommend this distillery tour!

We went on a tour of the distillery, it was so interesting. The girl who showed us round - and I feel awful that I can’t remember her name now - really knew her stuff! We had a brilliant morning and learnt so much. Of course we tasted some wonderful whisky while we were there!
