Amazing visit, tour and tea. This place is a gem and well worth making a trip to the lovely town.
Booked the tour and tea which is highly recommended and great value. Took the tour which included a walk around the original home and through the gardens which were lovely. Went through the manufacturing facility which was fascinating to see the marvelous machines being operated and understand the processes. Well presented and explained. The “tea” in the cafeteria was surprising in its presentation, with beautiful and delicious sandwiches and treats. Overall a really wonderful experience.

Tweeds and Tartans - close up view of how they are made!
This tour totally blew us away. We loved every part of it. Learning about the history of the mill, seeing the process so close up, in a working factory and getting to touch and feel the wools at various parts of the process. I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary.

    A must in Scotland
The visit at the shop and the factory was amazing! On the guided mill tour, we discovered the production of woven cashmere goods live and could see all the steps from the storage of the wool to the final quality check after production. The store had a fine selection of their cashmere and merino products. Finally, the restaurant on site served great food. The staff everywhere was very friendly and helpful. In other words: Johnstons of Elgin is a must in Scotland!

Wonderful trip to Johnson’s of Elgin
We had a fabulous visit to Johnson’s of Elgin with our French friends where we were well looked after by all, especially our experience tour guide Bent. Having been in Elgin many times, we were astonished at the scale of the operation and the number of processes required to produce the quality materials. The hour & a half tour was comprehensive and the look back into the lengthy history of the company was interesting and informative. Great lunch too! Well worth a visit.

    Visiting Elgin on a Sunday
Very interesting and interactive visit with Sarah. My daughter and I learned a lot of things through this tour animated by a young nice lady. Beauty and quality made in Scotland . I chose my Christmas already. Then we drove to Lossimouth and had a delicious gelato on the beach.

    Really interesting your
Really interesting tour with Sarah. Good to see the factory in operation and make sense of the price tags! Not sure I would take my teenage kids, but me and my 50 year old sister loved it!

Discovery Experience at Johnstons of Elgin
The Discovery Experience at Johnstons of Elgin was very interesting even though there was little production activity as we visited on a Sunday. The guide was excellent sharing lots of historical references as well as technical explanations of the mill process. Well worth a visit.

Interesting tour of an impressive factory
Our guide John guided us through all the steps of the manufacturing process, through the many factory halls. He talked about the long history of the factory and explained the steps of the production process well. It is impressive how much manual work is done by so many employees for a beautiful end result. Well worth it!

Lovely tour and fabulous gift shop
A stunningly beautiful location. The mill tour was fabulous, and we were given a hard-back book of our choice following the tour. Callum was friendly and knowledgeable, explaining both the history and present workings. We were able to see all areas of the mill, including fascinating machinery and recognizable woolens being woven for high-end designers. The mill buildings are interspersed with lovely gardens as well. At the end we shopped for clothing, housewares and baby gifts all made at the mill.

    Johnstons of Elgin Mill Experience
An amazing visit to Johnstons of Elgin. Whilst shopping and having morning tea at site cafe, noticed opportunity to take “Mill Experience”. Best thing we did. Callum was able to take us on individual tour at short notice and to be able to view the manufacturing of their high quality products for other high-end retailers and learn about their sustainable business practices was very interesting.

Amanda was an excellent guide and I was amazed at all the processes I was able to see from wool to finished product. A unique experience I would recommend anyone visiting Elgin to see this working mill and it's history. Great value for money and very easy to book on line. After which or before a lovely lunch and wool products to view

We stumbled upon Johnston's as we were in the area and could not have been happier! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the company and the mill, and it was fascinating to watch the process from beginning to end. A very enjoyable afternoon out.

Very interesting place to visit. I can recommend the tour. Good value at about £10 per person and lasts an hour. All the history explained and a fascinating walk around all the different areas of the factory.

We booked in for a 1hr 12 o clock tour followed by a light lunch.
Johnston garments are extremely expensive however after learning the integrate processes involved from sourcing the Cashmere wool, to the finished product which is processed having gone through more than 50 people, rigorous quality control which is so well respected that customers such as Burberry don’t even have to QC their products.
As a local who “bides” in Elgin, I was really impressed and educated into this local wonder.
For lunch we had a soup of the day with a club sandwich and coffee to wrap up our visit.
Thoroughly impressed and I warm heartily recommend this to anyone unfamiliar with this historical process . The food and the cafe may well come across as expensive but yet again high quality prevails and won’t disappoint.
Special thanks to our Tour Guide with Italian roots and South African accent.
Thanks for a pleasant afternoon visit.

Such an enjoyable, eye-opening experience. Our guide, Maura (hope that's correct!) was delightful and informative. We learned about the processes from start to finish and were so impressed by the care, quality and attention to detail, all while using traditional methods. It was so interesting!

We arrived early so headed straight to the restaurant for a coffee and a scone. 3 of us choose a different flavour and none of us was disappointed. We had a lovely guide who was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was so interesting from beginning to end with some well know brands on the looms. Lovely to see traditional teasels being used in the process.
By the time our tour was finished and we had a browse in the shop we decided to have a light lunch back in the restaurant. We 3 had the delicious Cullen skink soup. We would definitely recommend a visit albeit we were blessed with a sunny Spring day and didn’t have to run in the rain between the buildings. Thanks Morah - you are a great asset as a tour guide.

My Mother and I had a fascinating tour of the Mill, provided by a very knowledgable employee, who gave us an enormously interesting and insightful education about the production of cashmere and the long history of Johnstons of Elgin. There are so many things I have learnt about the production of cashmere, and having walked around all the rooms in the mill and seen first hand the incredible amount of work that goes into every stage of the creation of each product, I am in no doubt that cashmere from Johnstons is worth every penny! The site is fascinating in itself - full of history and beautifully maintained - well kept lawns and borders and beautiful trees. It felt a little bit like going around Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, just for Cashmere rather than Chocolate! Our tour guide, Bent, did an excellent job, we both were hugely impressed by his knowledge and enthusiasm. Definitely worth it.

Today I was in Johnson’s for a regular monthly meeting of 5 friends for coffee/ tea and scone.
Disappointed to find that the table was not clean and when my latte arrived the teaspoon in the saucer had a sad piece of bedraggled lettuce stuck to the handle. Spoke to the waitress about the lettuce - she smiled and apologised.
Mentioned both disappointments to the cashier when I was paying my £6.30 for the coffee and scone. Again a smile and ‘sorry’.
Then we walked out past the expensive merchandise discussing the contrast with the poor quality of service in the coffee shop.
