    Very Nice Surprise
Walking around the paths that surround Pitlochry, we came across the Red Deer Restaurant and Bar at Pitlochry Golf Club. Good service. Very tasty snacks. Very reasonable prices. Our only gripe was a large screen blaring out motor racing and not golf (seniors Carnoustie). Well worth a visit.

    Red Deer restaurant FAB!
We stopped off here for lunch and were really impressed with the quality of the food. We had the loaded chips with pulled pork with coleslaw which was the best coleslaw we've tasted with, surprisingly... broccoli in it! Everything was cooked fresh and it really showed.

Afternoon and lunch playing foot golf
Visited with family for footgolf and lunch while staying in the area. Great place and the footgolf was a hit with my teen boys. Be warned the balls are foam type balls (not airfloaters or actual footballs) so made playing difficult. You can take your own balls but we only had 2 so all used the foam balls. Was let around the 6 hole foot golf course twice which was lovely. Took 2 dogs as checked before hand. Very dog friendly and dogs were allowed in the restaurant also. We sat outside as the weather was lovely and they had dog bowls tpo. Food was slightly expensive but good quality food and lovely staff.

An excellent stop off for food off beaten track
We phoned ahead to make sure it was open … got a table & heard that it had been taken over by a local lady … The venue was soo Christmassy … trees & decorations & the menu was very good indeed! The new coleslaw to our palette was that it was made with broccoli, no cabbage .. excellent! Very welcoming & friendly we will be back again soon, Thankyou

Pitlochry is the highest golf course in the UK. The clubhouse with its roof in the striking color red can be seen from afar when you drive up. There are even charging stations in the parking lot (for hybrid/electric cars)! These are the first ones we see at a golf course this holiday!
The reception from the pro shop is the warmest, just like in the clubhouse after our round.
There is a beautiful plaque attached to the clubhouse containing information about the history of this (old) course.
The course is very well maintained; everything is well taken care of. Picture of the hole on the tees. Layout on the map.
It is not an easy course to play. There is not a single flat hole on this course. Everything goes from high to low and then high again; many holes are also undulating. Fast greens. Lots of variation in holes. In particular, holes 6 (from high to low), 8 (high-low-high) and 9 (from very high to low) of the first 9 are beautiful. All holes in the second 9 holes are special.
This course demands a lot from players. Thinking, course management and precision.
The red roof of the clubhouse is clearly visible from several holes and certainly from the highest point of this course. It is cozy inside the clubhouse. They have delicious home-baked scones with tea.

On the last full day of our 7 night holiday to Pitlochry, we booked to have lunch at the Red Deer Restaurant and Bar at Pitlochry Golf Club. This place just has to be one of Pitlochry's hidden gems!

Signposted from the main road through Pitlochry up a fairly narrow and twisting lane, within a couple of minutes you are parked in the midst of probably the most scenic golf course in Scotland.

Good parking facilities including electric vehicle charging points and a short stroll and you are in the Red Deer Restaurant. It is a somewhat understated building from the outside with its brightly painted red and white buildings but the interior is lovely, cosy and comfortable. The views from both inside and outside the restaurant have to be seen to be believed, with beautifully tended fairways and greens, and the 18th hole literally a matter of yards from the restaurant.

The menu is available online and was varied and good value too, and we both really enjoyed our meals. Service was great from the friendly staff and we plan to return there to eat next time we're up in Pitlochry.

Highly recommend eating there if you are a resident or visiting Pitlochry and not yet discovered its delights or like us, annual visitors to this beautiful town, give it a try you won't be disappointed! - Chris & Dean 🙂👍👌

First time playing Pitlochry GC. Loved every minute.
The course was quite wet on some holes due to recent poor weather, but this did not dampen our experience of playing this excellent course.
Day started well with great bacon roll in the clubhouse, all staff were excellent (Gary giving us some great knowledge of the course as it was our first time).
Excellent location, beautiful scenery, and a lovely designed course made this a great round of golf.
One word of caution, if you perhaps struggle physically with hilly courses - do what we did and hire a buggy! This course, especially the first 3 holes, can be physically challenging.
Will definitely be back.

A nice golf course with great views on a good day. However do not go here to eat as you may be verbally abused by the restaurant owner. On enquiring where a food order was after a forty minute wait the owners's response was "the kitchen is busy, tough cookies". Welcome to Pitlochry golf club.

The course is a ok golf course and fun to play if you get it under £40 as much better courses like boat of garten, spey valley, granton on spey even Dunkeld which is £20 is just as good. but the course is scenic and many fun holes of golf.
Its very very hilly and bit slow at times as many tourists and elderly so avoid if you want a chilled out knock about
the course design is also a bit all over the places, tees close to greens and fairways near each other so chances when busy being hit with another ball or having to wait ages for a tees to clear near a green are frustrating.
but worth a few rounds - Gary the pro however possibly the most unusual man ive come across in our opinion, he should not be in a customer facing role as very defensive vs understanding customers , plus impossible to have a conversation with him as hes a shouty one

Good afternoon Mr Rogers Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It is most unfortunate that your application for membership has been declined, especially when you live so near our wonderful golf course and facility. However, based on your past correspondence and recent attitude, we had no choice in this matter. We take great pride in taking very good care of the many visitors who choose to play one of the most unique and stunning golf courses in Scotland, as our 4.9% star reviews show. I wish you all the best in your golfing endeavours. Best Wishes Gary Gary Casey Director of Golf Pitlochry Golf Ltd

The Red Deer Restaurant review

I think the golf course setting is the sole reason for good reviews because independently the restaurant was over priced and very low standard pub food.
Although service was good, £25 for the toughest steak I've ever had with a steak knife meant we didn't stop for a dessert. Chilli reported to be bland and steak pie more of a stew with a pastry topper than an actual pie. Chips were good.
There appeared to be only one serving staff. We waited over an hour for a main (didn't order starter) and when it arrived the consensus on the table of 5 was that is was very low standard.
Felt very disappointed with the food even if the setting was relaxing and welcoming. Wish we hadn't bothered.

Although the course is beautifull, all the fun disappeared because of the very very rude person (Garry) in the proshop. (Where you buy your greenfee) We had a misunderstanding and he did not take the time or the kindness to explain. No flexibility and just repeatedly said with high raised voice: you still have to pay 120 pounds.
He refuses to explain anything, did not let us talk and was not customer friendly. Refuses to talk to us after we paid (we still think to much) and went to help other people. Maybe he does not like foreign people to play the course.Think twice, before you go there. Kind staff is just as important. We won't return.

Thank you for your review Yes you are right there was a misunderstanding !! of your interpretation of "Twilight Golf" which means "Golf before dark" as opposed to changing your tee time (before the course opens) from 09.20 to 06.20 without permission Apologies if you thought me trying to explain this came across as rude as we are a very guest friendly course as you can see from our many positive reviews However there was still absolutely no need to get over excited to the extent where the other visitors in the shop (who I was in the middle of serving) including an 11 year old lad about to tee off were shocked at your loud and aggressive attitude, especially when your husband swore at me !! I'll put this morning's experience down to the unusually hot weather and hopefully welcome you back to enjoy our fabulous course in cooler temperatures like the many Dutch and overseas visitors we look forward to meeting every year here at Pitlochry Golf Beste wensen Gary Casey Head Professional / Golf Manager

My wife and I came up to Pitlochry to visit our friend and see the course we’d heard so much about. We loved the golf course, it was trickier than the score card made it seem. It wasn’t in the very best condition due to the unseasonably bad weather they’d had this year but that didn’t detract from the enjoyment. We absolutely recommend this course and will return. The clubhouse has been turned into the Red Deer restaurant and we had a bite to eat before playing and then dinner after. Food was good quality and portions were huge. We returned for a second round the next day and it was even better as we knew where to aim. This has been one of the most enjoyable courses we’ve played recently

We had a great day playing two rounds of golf in this beautiful mountain course. We took the vip package which included unlimited golf, breakfast and a great late-lunch or early dinner between the rounds. Highly recommended.

A fantastic golf course and thoroughly enjoyed it. Restaurant very nice too. Friendly staff and very good food. Pro quite rude and continued to be rude when I gave customer feedback on another app. Don’t let him put you off though as it is a cracking venue to play.

Steve Thanks again for taking the time to leave a second review although disappointingly again, not a very positive one ! With regards to your visit : As I mentioned in my last reply, when you turned up for a "Hot Deal" (cheapest rate available) when only 3 have paid and the 4th looking for a rate that doesn't exist !! If you think me recommending your father (who sent me a very nice email ) to book the 4th spot online to save him money is classed as rude, then my apologies !! Here at Pitlochry Golf we are very proud of the service we offer as you can tell by the very positive reviews we receive. Having never spoken to you personally I'm at a loss as to why you feel the need to single me out with such a negative attitude Hopefully If you do decide to visit us again please introduce yourself so I can show you I'm not such a bad chap after all Kind regards Gary Casey Golf Manager / Head Professional
