    Fabulous food
Went in for lunch a couple of weeks ago. Served quickly by very friendly staff who were attentive and accurate. Food was excellent. Other half had chicken, loved it. I had steak pie and it was one of the best I'd ever eaten. Will visit again soon.

Lovely food & staff excellent service
Went into restaurant side. Small dining area but staff were great. Food was really good. Although the gin ordered was not the one brought to table, it was so nice ordered another. A really nice restaurant to visit with good staff service. Thank you

    Top pub.
The Tam o Shanter has always been my favourite pub in Ayr and on this latest visit it still came out tops. It’s a cosy local pub with a nice layout, attractive old beams on the ceiling and traditional wooden fixtures and fittings. As ever we enjoyed good service, excellent Tennent’s and a friendly atmosphere.

Having frequented this local pub for years, I took my wife and a good friend of ours for the light lunch on Saturday.

Turns out they dont do it know at the weekends, meaning you have to pay for the full lunch...really?

Add to this the the disharmony from the poor staff having to implement this, and the fact the words "penny pinching' was mentioned by one of them, I doubt I will return.

We left and went to Smiths, where a goid choice of smaller plates were made available, at a reduced cost to the main plate size..

After this, I doubt I will return, as one pf the old time locals mentioned on our way out, they now call ot ' Tam O Chancers'..

Pub game is hard, we get it, but not allowing customers choice of reduced menu, especially when there is a good decent pub, and a wetherspoons in the town, really is bad form....Whats next, an insurance job fire??

Wont be back, the atmosphere used to be great, stinks of desperation now..

No real ale available and they stop selling food at 4:30pm 🤷 but there's lots of food and drink options in Ayr so you won't have to look far to get what you want. I was disappointed as I expected such an iconic pub to service the town better. No wonder Wetherspoons in Ayr does so well.

I’ve been a regular at The Tam O’Shanter pub, [located right in the very heart of Ayr Town Centre’s High Street] for decades' now. Including very much enjoying their normally customer friendly bar and beer garden [except in inclement weather of course, in terms of their good, but seasonal beer garden].

What struck me most was their barmaid's [Indy I understand] overwhelming reluctance to sell me a single bottle of Tam O'Shanter finest ale [neither for consumption on the premises, nor off sale single item [old style carry out]. Which of course bartenders are perfectly entitled to do at their own discretion of course.
In fairness though, Indy instead served me a perfectly topped a lovely glass of Shandy, no worries here.

This particular point blank refusal perplexed me somewhat, given both myself and my son/family have been regulars at this fine establishment for a long long time, decades in fact. In fairness to this young, and fiesty bartender did great in my opinion having an almost full house High Street pub to run, almost single handed. Indeed, also with lively Stag Night patrons to contend with too, who were having a good old fashioned lad’s night out on the town. The groom himself was a hardworking individual, very honest and open, and his associate Alex alias Curtis happened to be wearing a Rolex watch incidentally, he was proud of his jewellery was Curtis, best wishes to the groom and of course bride to be in leap year day marriage next month, good luck!, and Blessings from myself [Tomstopiary].

The last time I actually spoke to the above mentioned Indy, she was very kind, considerate, and customer friendly to me, her regular, albeit disabled patron. We even discussed matters in her home country Australia, never mind. At least in the land ‘down under’ they are currently hosting a magnificent Open Tennis Tournament.

The Tam O’ Shanter Inn within Ayr’s town centre, remains a prime alehouse locally.i Indeed some would say Ayr's oldest hostelry boasting a lot of home cooked traditional Scottish food, live music, and regular entertainment to in warm surroundings. With an impressive array of beers, wines, ciders, spirits and vermouths'.

The ‘Shanter's’ other [long serving] bartender came across as being very customer focused too, as ever, despite being off duty himself. As was the Tam O’ Shanter owner himself enjoying his ‘down time’ with other Saturday night pub regulars.

Another very positive aspect of The Tam O Shanter Inn remains the inescapable fact that they continue to continually serve fine, staple Scottish Cuisine; for example Tatties Haggis and Neeps [turnip], and the firm old favourite Mince and Tatties. Their esteemed restaurant chef was also very customer focused too, and that particular chef had a very good rapport with not only myself, but my entire family given we have regularly gone to that licenced High Street establishment for literally decades’ now.

In short, a well established Rabbie Burns themed pub, complete with live fire for superlative ambience. They even sold me previously a portrait of Tam O’Shanter himself on his famous horse Meg. The beautiful Ayrshire County is well ‘kent’ worldwide for Scotland’s National Bard, the world famous Rabbie Burns. Indeed, Robert Burns was voted Scotland’s greatest ever Scot. The Bard’s beautiful birth village of Alloway is also only a very short drive away, and highly recommended, as is his very own world famous thatched cottage, and heritage site nearby.

Well worth a visit in my subjective opinion, 98% positive despite no free Wi Fi.

Where do I actually start! We should have listened to our instinct. On arrival we were approached by a member of staff who appeared to be very angry and negative. We were told there would be half an hour wait so we asked if we could sit down. The moaning and cursing continued with no offer of even a drink. We eventually asked for a drink. As we were waiting the table opposite us were returning food as it was still frozen. Eventually my husbands starter of 3 pieces of chicken tempura arrived. My starter arrived 5 mins later absolutely swimming I’m peppercornsauce. Whilst this was going on the young member of staff was still stomping about moaning about how they had been so busy and the chef was ill! I felt so sorry for the older member of staff who was apologising for her. Our main course eventually arrived. My husband asked for mince & potatoes! The mash potatoes were still frozen in the middle! The chef offered a new one but by this point it was too late and we just squared the bill and left. I understand it wasn’t the usual female chef but we had been recommended here and it was a total disaster from start to finish.

This was a nice restaurant the staff were friendly but the food was disgusting. The nachos were served covered in haggis . We waited over half a hour to get our food which was poorly presented . Portions were small and vastly overpriced. A very bad example for our visitors to Ayr. Wouldn't recommend this place to dine, even the beer garden had no staff to serve us when we first arrived. Poor quality food .we
