If you are looking for the true home of golf and where the Open began, this is ground zero. If you are travelling the world to play golf, I would expect that you understand the golf you are about to play and it is still played like it was over 100 years ago. Go early or stay late and check out all of the Open history upstairs. If you enjoy Tom Morris history, this is the place to be. I'll refrain from posting course pics as those seem to be plenty here but I'll show some other neat ones.

You gotta laugh at some of the comments people make saying it’s not a great course with blind holes etc. Well, some of the holes are 150 years old. Do you want them bulldozed down to play target golf like you do in the states. Don’t come to Prestwick thinking you are playing a modern championship course. You come to Prestwick to take a step back in time to see how the Open championship’s humble beginnings. As Joni Mitchell famously said “They paved paradise to put up a parking lot”. So if you want to play target golf, Prestwick is definitely not for you.

This very old golf course is certainly challenging with its deep bunkers, shared fairways, and two blind drives over hills at par3s. It was fun to play and the caddies were pretty good. We did the Prestwick Experience after golf. The clubhouse is small and cramped making the changing area a mess. We had to wait for room at the dining table. We finally got in to set at the end of the table while another loud group occupied the rest of the table. The food and service was mediocre at best. If invited to do this experience you should consider passing on it. It certainly is nothing special.

Thanks you for your review. I am sorry you did not enjoy your visit to Prestwick Golf Club as much as we would have hoped.
One of the features of the Prestwick Experience is having lunch at the long table and mixing with other gollfers. As we had no complaints about the standard of the food in the Dining Room from other golfers I can only assume you were expecting or looking for something different to that which was on offer, in which case I am sorry you were disappointed.
If you get the opportunity to visit again I hope that you have a more enjoyable experience.

Some of the most challenging open holes I have ever experienced! A very unusual and quirky course that just has to be experienced. Dont worry about your score and just enjoy one of the most extraordinary experiences in golf.

This course hosted the first 12 Opens and both Old and Young Tom Morris' won several of those Opens. There are some blind shots and what some would call as quirky holes, but there are some great holes and greens and so much history. Be sure to book a caddy before you arrive. The caddies are some of the best in Scotland, especially Billy, Thomas, Daniel, Mark and Chic who also caddies in the USA during the winters. The caddies will make your round much more enjoyable. The pro shop is small, but well stocked. The staff were extremely friendly and treated us well. A must play course!

We played a 4 ball here today. From the start to the finish it was a great day. Clubhouse very traditional and a warm welcome from the staff.
Now to the golf. The course was in excellent condition with some very tricky holes. Really need to keep the ball on the short stuff!.
Wind was up and greens whilst fast were holding my wedges. Had to fix many many pitchmarks tho, theres no need for this. Players need to tidy up after themselves.
Birdied the last hole so was well pleased.

Prestwick is a quickie course with some blind shots and forced layup shots. After the first few holes, the fairways are wide with the occasional well placed bunkers. It was where the first Open was played. The club still keeps to some old traditions. No jeans. No hats in the clubhouse. There was a very nice gentleman walking his dog in a sports coat. Men eating also in sports coats. We ate in regular golf attire. But, the people there could not be any friendlier and welcoming us with open arms. We even received a commemorative picture of our group at the end of play as a nice touch. In terms of the golf, it’s not very hard except trying to figure out distances on blind shots with several forced layup shots. The caddies were helpful and fun to talk history with. Am i glad i played it, yes. Would i play it again, probably not as there are better courses out there when sometimes time is a limitation on a golf trip. But if you have the time, a little historical golf perspective can be fun.

Day 26 of golfing endurance test of Ireland and Scotland and we had our first day off.
So what to do on a fine day (one of very few in a month)?
Let’s drive across Scotland from StAndrews fo a game at historic Prestwick. Wow, what a brilliant decision. Impossible to describe all the quirky bits of this course but it is a timeless museum like North Berwick. Please leave courses like these alone and remain as museums of days gone by.
Lovely reception at Course and a leisurely game in lovely sunshine and able to enjoy a great course whilst admiring such history. Lots of photos and despite it being a long day driving and golfing, I am so glad to say I have played such an historical course.
Fully worth the effort.

My goodness, 26 days of consecutive golf - as you say quite an endurance test! Delighted you managed to play at Prestwick Golf Club - birthplace of the Open Championship - and you had an enjoyable day at our historic club. We look forward to welcoming you on your next visit to Scotland.

Golfed here with pals who are all well-travelled golfers. The course was resplendent; historic clubhouse; attentive starter; the fairways were glorious, the greens in superb nick. What an experience.

I've been traveling to the UK on golf trips for 40 years, and have played most of the highly rated courses multiple times. Prestwick is deserving of its historical reputation but the links itself has too many simple or wacky holes to hold a high place in the UK's greats.
