Visited this place during our traval to Moragahakanda Reservoir.
It is an ancient buildings, which build at the center of the country. Most important thing how they located just using mechanical tools without having digital instrument currently available.

The Nalanda Gedige is an ancient temple with a Hindu Kovil. This was earlier situated in the middle of the reservoir, but when the expansion of the reservoir, this was relocated as it was earlier days. Shape and stones everything kept as they were.
This place is believed to be the center of Sri Lanka.

this is called as the 'center point ' of ancient Srilanka..nice ancient building with amazing carvings on the stone walls of the temple.sorounded by the beautiful lake.

It is an ancient stone temple near Matale and its original site was considered as the center point of Sri Lanka. The building was constructed in between 8th and 10th centuries with Indian architecture and is believed to have been used by Buddhists.

I’m not sure why not more people stop here because it’s well worth the visit. Perhaps because it’s free, people don’t think it’s worthwhile. However, it’s beautiful complete stone temple, which used to mark the centre of Sri Lanka. It has Buddhist and Hindu elements, making it unique. Use one of the guides and remember to tip him, he will take whatever you give him so 500-600 SLD was very much appreciated in 2019.

Though it wasn't on our itinerary, our tour guide suggested we stop at this hidden gem and we're so glad he did! He said it was the exact center of the country, and his GPS app on his iPhone proved him right. It's a stone temple built at least 1200 years ago, and was used by both Hindus and Buddhists in the past. Though it's an archaeological wonder, it seems to be off the beaten path - or it was when we visited. It was a nice change from the other, heavily-trafficked tourist destinations.

At the geographical center of Sri Lanka this small temple without entrance fee is worth the visit for people who are more interested in history. If you go for the symbol which is known, you should know it is the only symbol.

It was baffling to see how the generations before us constructed this temple by identifying the center of Sri Lanka. Entrance is free so it's a must visit site. Don't forget to switch on Google maps and see for yourself as to how accurate this location is.

It's a convenient distance between Dambulla and Kandy so a decent rest stop. It's a beautiful little temple, admission is free, and it's also in a very peaceful setting. No crowds of tourists or people selling tat, just a car park and the temple.
Well worth a quick stop - there's not a whole lot to see so you'll probably only be around 20 minutes, but it's a good place to stretch your legs.

This was described as the absolute centre point of the island of Sri Lanka though when you go there very little suggests this to be the case. What you do find is a Buddhist temple which was rescued from the rising waters of the Nalandia Gedige reservoir by building a platform onto which the temple was moved stone by stone.
The highlight was what the guide described as “Giant Squirrels” and he wasn’t kidding, these things were the size of terriers!
