Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I loved this place. Really atmospheric and a beautiful location. Well signposted from the main road, but there were no other visitors when we were there.

An interesting site from an archaeological point of view. May not appeal to all as the site is remote and there is no real visitor facility available

This visit was funny for all the wrong reasons! The walk was short but much wetter than we had anticipated. When you arrive at the circles you realize that no one is sure if they are authentic or not! There was a lovely view from the stones but definitely not a ‘must see’ attraction.

Steinacleit stone circle and cairn via a short walk from the carpark. The walk is not difficult; however, it is quite boggy and waterlogged with a little brook to cross.

There is a bit of conjecture as to the original purpose of the stones, but it is becoming more accepted that they are more than likely a homestead or farming structure, dating from around 2000BC. As you drive to the carpark you pass a loch with an island in the middle. At the car park just above the loch, one can see the remnants of what appears to be a bridge joining the island with the mainland. It is believed the island was a place of sanctuary for a wealthy landowner.

Regardless of the history, it is quite an enigmatic site with magical views across the isle. Life here in the iron age must have been so tough.

If you look on the explore the outer Hebrides hand out, these stone sets are shown on the map but then nothing is written about them. To get to them they are signposted off the main road but its a small track. At the end there's only parking for a few cars and the walk up the hill (only 100m) can be slightly damp. Don't let this put you off. When you arrive at the stones there are some information boards but it still seems a bit of a mystery why these stones are here. It could have been a community or just a sacred or burial site. Its worth the short detour.
