Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was born in Overtoun House in 1957. I have always had a soft sport for this building and the grounds. The original owners wife didnt much like the house when it was finished and spent most of her time in the lodge house which lies in the property elsewhere. He was very much a christian man which is evident when you look at the buildings exterior which has ornate lettering displayed on the outside portraying christian values, He was also very generous and donated his house for the use of the community as long as it was used in good christian fashion. So it was it became a hospital for a number of years and later on several christian organisations used it a a spiritual retreat. When I visited "Youth with a mission" were using it and sadly at that time there was a leaking roof which was running into the entrance staining the original tiles which were ornate. I did inform the council who look after listed buildings and the building has to my delight been upgraded and looks absolutely fantastic. The cafe in the building isnt always open but when it is you can sit in the angel room which was were I was born and enjoy what is a very opulent afternoon. This building has been featured in a few televised programs and the grounds are spectacular. The bridge is featured in a documentary mentioning the dogs that leap over to their death but I can assure you there is a feeling of beauty and tranquility about this place. Its straight out of time and has to be on everyone's to do list.

We visit the cafe here. It’s a lovely baronial building set amongst hills and fields, but still easily accessible by footpath.
It has a lovely tearoom with high ceilings and pretty views.
The food is delicious and inexpensive for such a fine setting. Served by the lovely waitress Cassie.
Scones, sandwiches, baked potatoes and lots more on the menu.

First ever visit to Overtoun House was just perfect.
Beautiful house, great cafe with lovely food served up by very professional and friendly staff and walking trails that are some of the best in Scotland.
Just Scotland at it's best.

There is only public access to the tearoom and the hallway leading to it, but you can get a good idea of the grandeur of the place from the little you can see. The tearoom itself is quite basic, and it's only open two days a week, but the food is decent and the prices are good. The servers are volunteers, they are very friendly and capable. Definitely worth popping in if you're in the area for a walk in the surrounding hills.

Given the Covid restrictions we ended up here for my Mums 81st birthday. The staff in the tearoom were friendly & attentive. When they realised it was my Mums birthday there was no charge for her cake at the end of the lunch. Small macaroni & chips was lovely and very reasonably priced. We’ll be back. Thanks for making my mums day special in this weird year!

This estate is simply amazing. Took my family from Canada here for lunch/tea. The setting of the house itself is incredibly beautiful. The staff were incredibly kind and did an amazing job. The menu was simple but all homemade and incredibly tasty. The room, the views just so special. The baked goods were amazing as well. My family was over the moon with this beautiful house.

Beautiful 19th-century country house designed in the Scottish Baronial Revival style. The estate includes paths and trails, one of which goes all the way into Dumbarton. Another one of the trails takes you down towards the river and underneath the bridge for pretty views of the house and bridge.

Overtoun House is such a beautiful place. The grounds are lovely to walk around. It has a fascinating history and a great place to stop off for food. The staff are all incredibly friendly. I highly recommend it for families to visit. It looks beautiful inside. Once I was outside and looking through my photos I caught an odd figure in the close of the window on the top floor. I’m unsure if it’s a cut out of a person but it was there in the previous one.

To be completely open, we actually came to see the bridge. The bridge is known for a weird phenomena that drives canines crazy and has them leap to their death. It is thought that it is haunted or it could simply be the mink smell. The House itself is very nice. From what we understand, they serve a nice tea.

I know you have a church service on Sundays. Is the tea room / cafe open after the service?
Written 7 May 2019
As far as au am aware the answer unfortunately is no. The tearoom is opened Friday and Saturday but during summer months they used to open on a Thursday but would check to see if this still is the case.
