if you haven't yet tried a canal trip from here you are missing out, there are 2 to choose from, a short one and one that lasts 1-2 hrs, coffee served with a smile on board and a commentary on the landmarks, very relaxing afternoon activity. This whole show is run by volunteers, great little coffee shop on shore as... More

Great place for a Saturday or Sunday outing. Long and short boat trips at a reasonable price and all run by volunteers. Short trips also during July and August but the best thing is the Tea Room. A bit ,Olde Worlde' but really friendly ladies serving great scones. You will also find Rosie and Jim (if I remember correctly) sitting... More

Hubby and I had decided to walk our dog along the canal at Linlithgow for a change of scenery, we stopped at the canal centre for a cup of coffee and cake - wow, the best date and walnut cake ever! The ladies in the tea room were really friendly and the coffee was good too, and all very reasonably... More

I visited the centre with my two boys on the last day of the season and was blown away by the friendliness and attentitiveness of the staff. Everyone from the man who sold us the tickets, to the boat's captain and the staff in the tea rooms made us feel really welcome. The cost is also staggeringly good value. A... More

The Linlithgow Union Canal Society is run by an enthusiastic and passionate group of volunteers who deserve a huge amount of credit for the work they do. There is a museum at the basin with really interesting displays on how the canals were built, what they were used for and how they were restored. Mike is an encyclopedia of all... More

Spending a day in Linlithgow with our 3 year old grandson, we decided to go up to the museum and tea room. We knew the boats would not be operating, but the sign at the entrance said that the museum and tea room was open. They were not !! Considering it had started to drizzle rather heavily, and we were... More

Found this location behind Linlithgow Train station when we were forced away from our planned visit to Linlithgow Palace due to a Classic Car Rally. Very quaint volunteer run teashop serving delicious homemade cakes and teas. We took the half-hour round trip on the canal boat, hosted by a very warm informative Scottish gent who enthralled us with the history... More

A superb centre staffed by enthusiaatic volunteers. Decent cafe, great boat trips - and of course at Christmas Santa visits with super presents for children plus a boat trip for one and all. A few minutes walk from either the High Street or Linlithgow Station or a great canal path to walk or cycle along. Plus free parking nearby.

We hired the Leamington barge for 4 hours with my 80 year old dad as the skipper. It was brilliant from start to finish. Great demo from the volunteer and the barge was great to drive. The scenery is just fantastic. So relaxing. We went from the Linlithgow canal basin to Winchburgh and back. So peaceful. No cooking facilities on... More
