- kurgatronBathgate, United Kingdom111 contributionsAqueduct CruiseHad a lovely time on the Aqueduct Cruise with my 10yo daughter. Nice slow trip along to the 2nd highest aqueduct in Britain and back. Refreshments and biscuits available on board included in the price. Got a shot steering the barge with a little certificate at the end. Alastair, his wife and Layla the dog were great hosts. Lovely quaint tea room and gift shop at the Canal Centre and you could catch little minnows in the canal with a fishing net you can buy for £2 at the gift shop. My daughter loved seeing the ducks, ducklings and moorhen.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 June 2023
- Ruth B14 contributionsSuch a lovely spotI just love the canal centre and visit whenever I come to stay in Linlithgow. The volunteers create a lovely atmosphere and everything, including the boat trips, is such good value. Quaint cafe too. I hope tourists from Edinburgh get to know about this lovely spot by the canal. It certainly has a place in my heart.Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 7 July 2023
- LinzDalzielDunfermline, United Kingdom4 contributionsVery enjoyable canal tourMy husband & I went on the Avon Aqueduct canal tour. The canal centre has a nice tea room & museum. Staff were all very friendly. The tour itself was very scenic and the tour master very knowledgeable. The tour itself lasted 2 1/2 hours with refreshments included and a stop at the aqueduct with photo opportunity. I give this 5 out of 5 and excellent value for moneyVisited July 2023Written 8 July 2023
- Alison A1 contributionAfternoon tea on a canal boatFantastic afternoon out with friends. Afternoon tea served on the canal boat, cruising along the canal on a sunny day. Lynne and the other volunteers made our day special. Beautiful tables adorned with homemade cakes, scones, sandwiches, lemoncurd, clotted cream, jam. All served up on pretty china and tea served in pretty teapots. Would throughly recommend.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 9 July 2023
- katie26Edinburgh, United Kingdom2,160 contributionsGood value and interesting afternoonExcellent way to spend a mixed weather afternoon- delicious scone and coffee in the tea room first and then the 2.5 hour cruise. Great info from Alasdair and John on board and a relaxing meander down the canal. Sadly pouring by time we got to the aqueduct so I didn't venture out but even in rain a good activity and would be ideal with older less mobile relatives etc.Visited July 2023Written 2 August 2023
- jimjam211Regina, Canada5 contributionsGreat time on the Self Hire Canal BoatMy family ended up with a few extra days during our time in Edinburgh and were looking for some unique day trips. Taking a 20 minute train ride to Linlithgow and renting the self-hire canal boat was a fantastic time. We spent some time with Willie at 10:30 who showed us everything about the boat and was a pleasure to talk to, and then were on our way by ourselves. This was perfect timing to spend some time at the Avon Aqueduct, then get to Bridge 49 patio in time for lunch, before turning around for the return journey. It was really one of the more unique things we did in 3 weeks of travel, and very peaceful, especially after all the crowds of Edinburgh Castle the day before. It's one of the experiences we get asked the most about by family and friends. Paired with walking around the small town and seeing Linlithgow Palace, it was the perfect day out.Visited July 2023Written 9 August 2023
- Marion P2 contributionsLovely boat trip and excellent information provided. This was a sail along the canal to the Aquaduct taking two and a half hours round trip. It was a superb experience especially for the teenage history student in our party. The guide on the boat was very well informed and excellent in delivering the information. Biscuits, juice, tea and coffee were all available on the trip. I had made an error with my booking - completely my fault - and they were very helpful in sorting it out.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 13 August 2023

Hi there. They are open for boat trips on the weekends but arrangements can be made through the week. The entrance to the canal Center is wheel chair accessible but not all of the boats. Contact the volunteers at The canal Center. They are very helpful & will assist you any way they can I'm sure! Enjoy your visit!
