What a superb bunch of volunteers we met this week at the canal centre. Although closed for lockdown, the centre’s volunteers were all working hard to spruce up their visitor trip canal boats. They were only too happy to help us with advice on our trip and gave us a potted history of the canal. When it opens, the centre has a pretty tea room and mini museum too. Alastair is an absolute gem if you get the chance to meet him. I could have chatted to the chaps at the centre all day.

We went on the 2 hour trip along the canal to the Avon Aqueduct - the 2nd biggest in the UK. As no other boat was on it at the time, we were allowed out on top of the aqueduct to better appreciate the location. En route we were entertained by one of the two crew on board - both volunteers - a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits were a welcome addition on the trip.

We hired Leamington - the self-drive day boat - and had a fabulous cruise up and down the canal. Great to be able to moor up for a cuppa any time, and fun to arrive at The Park Bistro, Narrowboat Farm and Bridge 49 by boat! The team at LUCS were so helpful and welcoming, we had a lovely day.

Our family recently booked a private cruise on the “Victoria” for an evening trip through the Avon Aqueduct. Our captain. Stuart, was outstanding - obviously knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic. The boat will hold up to 12, but on this particular evening, there were only 3 of us. The boat has clear side panels in case of bad weather, but we were fortunate to have a beautiful night and Stuart took them down so our boat could be open. Stuart gave us lots of good information about the boat, the history and current use of the canal, and the surrounding area - all provided with his obvious love of the subject and his great sense of humor. We were able to bring food and drink on this 2 1/2 hour cruise. The view from the aqueduct was spectacular and the entire cruise was relaxing and peaceful as the surrounding countryside is beautiful. All of us agreed we would love to takes longer trip or would do this one again. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening.
