We are members of the National Trust and so I am always looking for somewhere to visit when I'm out and about and had been looking at The House of the Binns recently because I've been looking for somewhere different to see snowdrops and woodland. For years of driving down the M9 I've always seen the amazing tower that seems... More

We visited on a Sunday afternoon with our two children, aged 9 & 11. We went on the guided tour. The guide was very informative. She was very knowable about the house and Scottish history. She was able to answer any questions, including random ones from my Children. The guide was great with my children. She pointed out things that... More

House enlarged to stately home by the same family over 400 years or so. Lots of history, paintings and wide mix of national and international treasures. Wonderful plaster ceilings in two of the rooms we saw and lovely parkland walk.

It's over thirty years since I last visited The House of the Binns and the whole place seemed larger and much better-presented than I remembered. You have to take the guided tour and our guide was excellent - sound both on the history of the house and its inhabitants. It really does feel like a family home - even if... More

We spent a very enjoyable hour and a quarter on a wet afternoon having a tour around this fascinating house. Our guide was very informative and clearly loved explaining about the house, it's history and the characters in the family. Had the weather been better it would have been nice to have explored the grounds, but given the rain we... More

Have been to the grounds before but never been there at the right time for a visit to the house. We arrived just as they were starting a tour so they kindly added us to the group. Very interesting talk although the woman spoke a little too softly for me. I liked the way she interacted with the children in... More

Arrived an hour before the house opened at 2 so decided to follow the walk as shown on the map. Guess I'm just no good with maps! Did the short walk when I thought I was doing the long one. A nice stroll but lots of steps and drops on the way up to the tower. Still too early so... More

A guided tour is compulsory. This is the family home of Tam Dalyell and open at summer weekend afternoons (check). As it is still someone's home, guided tours are the only way to see the house. The guides are very knowledgeable and the tours take an hour. There was almost too much information though. The house has been added to... More

Just finished visiting here and found it extremely enjoyable. The house is steeped in so much history. The guide that took us round was very pleasent and knowledgable. My daughter would also like to thank Sir Tam for the peacock feathers. Highly recommend a visit if your interested in Scottish history.

Just finished a very interesting visit to this National Trust of Scotland property. Ashamed to say I had never heard of this historical house, but went along with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed my tour. Our tour guide, Liz, obviously enjoyed her job and emparted her knowledge in a very friendly way. The tour took about an hour and if... More
