A nice and safe beach area to swim and get beginners used to the water because it is protected by rocks and creates a lagoon. Good for beginners snorkeling session too. Facilities right there, picnic tables, playground, park; family oriented!

Our grand kids have to go to this park every year when we visit. There is an amazing children adventure playground and the best protected beach on the island. Bring a snorkel as there are many fish inside the rock wall.

Two areas have been sectioned off with lava boulders, creating safe areas to swim that regularly get 'flushed' by the water entering/exiting through the boulders. One area is for small children. The other for swimming laps etc. The adjoining beach is nice for sunbathing, although often dangerous for body surfing. There is a large lawn area nearby, restrooms and several... More

The rock wall that surrounds the snorkeling/swimming area makes it nice for those who don't have great swimming skills. While there weren't scads of fish, there were enough to make it interesting. We spent an afternoon here the day we moved from the place we stayed on the north shore to the place we stayed on the south shore. It's... More

Camped here two separate nights while visiting Kauai, try and get spot 18! It's the best, women's restrooms were clean with a shower. My boyfriend said the men's were not as clean. The beach is wonderful and campsites 18-23 are right on it. Be sure to get a permit in Lihue or send a money order in for one. A... More

Lydgate State Park Beach is a great place for families. They have a seawall around an area to create swilling ponds that are protected from the ocean waves. There is normally a Lifeguard on duty and it has lots of areas for picnicking.

My wife and I visited the park to walk and see the beach. It has very good walking/jogging/biking paths, nice picnic tables, restrooms, local baseball fields. It looks like a nice family place. Close to the ocean too.

Most all of the ocean front beaches had a high surf advisory out, swimming not recommended, so we decided to check out Lydgate State Park. Rented a couple of boards and a mask/snorkel set at Coconut Grove and hit the swimming lagoon. The park was a little crowded on Sunday, but nothing like Hanalei was on Saturday. We had a... More

This beach was nice since the swimming area is closed off from the ocean by rocks which makes it great for kids and poor swimmers (like me). They even have a second smaller closed off section that looks like it would be great for toddlers. The beach is just a beach but it does have shower and bathroom facilities.
