A nice family owned castle and archeological site

We took a side trip to this castle and its adjacent monastic site with the high cross on our way to see cliffs of Moher from lower Shannon. It was a lovely short visit. It would... read more

Please be aware that there are some very long walks around this place. The map they hand out at the front desk indicates a short jaunt over to the stone forts, for example, but this is extremely misleading. We walked for ages and ages - never sure if we were in the right place (there is no signage) and eventually... More

Castle was great and historian on site gave good information. Lots of artifacts to look at through history. Video is a plus.

Great spot, not well known but totally worth the trip. The castle is €5 per adult and has a tea room as well service snacks. Cash only. No card payments. They also have a walking tour of over 20 points of interest which are all free :) bring a rain coat! Stunning old sites, high cross and abbey were great... More

Wow! What a spot! The middle of nowhere and there is a lovely lady inside with sweets and tea. The castle is remarkable! We climbed every floor and poked in every room and finished on the roof where, if vertigo does't get you, the most remarkable vistas are to be seen! It always amazes me to think of people who... A real castle from 1408 AD. Restored to its Finest Day. Narrow halls climb the floors of this amazing building seeing the bed chambers, kitchen, work rooms, and onto the roof. if you get Vertigo its not recommended to look off, my mom nearly passed out lol. I loved it, was like being a King and going to look over... More

I am a castle chaser and I love things off the beaten path. This was a beautiful and enchanting place. The castle is small but full of history. No crowds or tour busses so we had a wonderful quiet morning exploring the castle and grounds. A must do for all castle lovers. You do need a car to get there... More

Being a castle chaser, I loved this tiny castle! It is so far off the beaten path in the Burren area that you will not see other tourists or tour busses there. You must hire or take a car but it's worth the trouble. At the base of the castle is an interesting book and tea shop. You can climb... More

This is a must stop for anyone in County Clare. My family (the O'Days of Wisconsin Rapids) purchased and restored the castle decades ago. The grounds are beautiful with ruins of a monastery and church, as well as one of Ireland's few remaining High Crosses. It is a bit out of the way but absolutely worth your time to find... More
