- Julia PSingapore, Singapore12 contributionsWell worth a visit whether you have Irish heritage or notWe didn’t know what to expect as we weren’t searching our past. I was surprised by the number of Irish who emigrated at specific times and also where they went. I also wondered why certain Irish people were not included ie Sheridan- Swift was. More on James Joyce not a lot on Oscar Wilde. Very little on politics and it’s impact except for Cromwell. It appeared to be treading a fine line of pc ness so as not to upset what I believe might still be some underlying tensions, a shame but comprehensible- maybe a job once more years have flown under the bridge! Despite all that a very good overview and introduction to the irish - we were there for 2 1/2 hours.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 September 2023

Very few static displays almost all are visual interactive and allow hands on manipulation of the story and the info. As a descendent of Irish emigrants it was wonderful to come to a place that told the story of the exodus of Ireland. First class museum not to be missedHi ontheroadmaryg, Thank you for visiting EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and for sharing this positive review. - JeanGalway, Ireland19 contributionsLives up to the name!A fantastic, interactive museum that is a must see for anyone with a connection to someone who has left Ireland. The recommended time to take to visit all the exhibition rooms is 90 mins, but I took 2.5 hours. Free return entry within 10 days is a great bonus! There are lots of interesting stories to learn here, both happy and sad. The level of detail in the exhibits is amazing, from a replica of an Irish pub, to an old library, to the inside of a coffin ship that evolves into an airplane on the Dublin Airport runway. Every aspect of Ireland’s emigration story has been told by this museum!Hi JeansTrips, Thank you for visiting EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and for taking the time to share such a positive review. - Ellie1,998 contributionsEPICDuring our recent visit to Dublin, my boyfriend Pete and I stumbled upon the EPIC Immigration Museum, and we were pleasantly surprised by what we discovered. We would rate our experience 4 stars! Our entry was made even more appealing thanks to our Go City Card, which included admission. Upon entering, we were given a passport, a unique touch that added an element of fun and engagement to our visit. We eagerly stamped our passports in each room, which turned out to be a delightful surprise. The museum truly lives up to its name - it's EPIC in its scope and offerings. We were amazed by the variety of exhibits and interactive displays that covered a wide range of topics. From Irish literature and sports to criminals, movies, and theatre, there seemed to be a room for every interest. The themed rooms were not only diverse but also incredibly interesting. We found ourselves immersed in the rich history and culture of Ireland, learning about the contributions of immigrants in various fields. The interactive elements added a layer of engagement that made the experience both educational and enjoyable. While we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, we're rating it 4 stars as we believe there's room for improvement in terms of providing even more detailed information in some areas. However, the EPIC Immigration Museum is undeniably a must-visit for those interested in Irish history and culture, and we left with a greater appreciation for the impact of immigration on this beautiful country.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 September 2023
- MJH161Denver, Colorado222 contributionsDon’t miss this museum in DublinWe bought a ticket that included the Jeanne, Johnston ship and the EPIC museum. The ship was pretty interesting, but we thought the museum itself was the bomb. Loved it. There are 20 stations you go through and you stamp your passport. That may sound hokey, but it becomes kind of addicting, and Fun. The museum is only about 7 to 8 years old. It is very clean. It was very well designed. Somebody put a lot of effort and a lot of cash into this. We thought it was the most interesting museum we visited in Ireland. Lots of info about what it means to be from Ireland and to have emigrated to elsewhere in the world and all the influence that the Irish have had throughout the world. Well worth your time, especially if you have any Irish heritage or friends from Ireland.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 September 2023
- Kay C2 contributionsEducational and entertainingThis museum was immersive and interactive, taking visitors through Irish emigrants' experiences of leaving their homeland and settling in other countries. The museum is well-designed to keep visitors moving through the displays. Visitors are given a "passport" to stamp as they pass through each room, which I think children would enjoy but seemed a bit juvenile for adults (but maybe I'm just being cynical -- I saw plenty of adults getting their stamps). Recognizing that most people who visit the museum are descendants of Irish emigrants, one of the last displays allows visitors to enter the name of an ancestor who left Ireland to include in the museum's database. Overall, the museum is visually stunning and one of the best I've ever visited for the thoughtful and entertaining ways it immerses visitors in the emigrant and immigrant experiences.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 October 2023
- Diver DanWashington DC, District of Columbia294 contributionsTotally WorthwhileIf you want to try to understand the Irish experience. This is a 21st Century operation; all interactive not a single object. Tells the story from 16th Century to RiverDance. About the Irish diaspora exclusively, which is an interesting concept. Not the country itself. If you really want to immerse plan for 2 hours, although you can go through as fast as you want.Dear DKBerman, Thank you for visiting EPIC and for taking the time to share your feedback with us. - Fletch WSeattle, Washington361 contributionsThe story of usThe Irish diaspora is told in dramatic and engaging fashion. The site is a 19thC warehouse on the Liffey, itself interesting. The United Brewery, next door, is fine for a lunch and a pint. The story is well laid out -- of what impelled the Irish to leave and where they went. Arguably the most successful diaspora in history, they spread the culture and its values throughout the Western world. Worth two hours or more, depending on how Irish you feel.Hi FletchW_13, Thank you for visiting EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and for taking the time to leave this lovely review. A truly 21st century museum combining technology and digital interactive experiences to carry you through the turbulent history of Ireland. A magnificent art installation greets you - really blows you away, so beautiful, so evocative. Personal stories brought to life which gave a true sense of the physical and emotional hardship and upheaval. But, also hope. An experience of 2 halves - the emigration story which continues to this day and the global achievements of those who left, survived and whose descendants have achieved so much. We spent many fascinating hours here, learnt a tremendous amount and thoroughly recommend a prolonged stay to gain the most out of it. A special mention to the extremely helpful and friendly staff particularly Ella and Alison.

Spent a couple of hours here with my teenage daughter and we both found the exhibits interesting and engaging - particularly if you're of Irish descent. The museum covers everything in detail, but you can easily skip any area not of particular interest. Good interactive exhibits and particularly good films projected on to walls. You have a choice as to whether to wander round unaccompanied, or have a guide, and there are headphones with translations etc. Probably not much here for pre-school children but all ages will enjoy stamping their EPIC 'passports'.

Hi BristolDad,
Thank you for visiting EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit!
Overall our feedback from families who visit with young children is all positive. They really enjoy the space and the interactive exhibits, even if the material would be too advanced for them. This is why children aged 5 and under are admitted free of charge.
EPIC is also a great museum for older children. We’re a popular destination for school tour groups from ages 9 and up. We were also nominated by the European Museum Academy for their prestigious Children in Museums Award in 2017, the only Irish museum to be shortlisted.
We would like to thank you for taking the time to review us, we really appreciate your feedback and recommendation.

This is a great museum and is one of the hop-on, hop-off bus stops so easy to get too. The museum basically tells you how through poor times the Irish have influenced pretty much everything in the world for 100s of years including American Presidents, notorious criminals and music. This brilliantly laid out museum takes you on a journey where you can hear the story of some of the past Irish emigres.
We spent a good two hours here but because of time restrictions we had to leave with probably not really getting our full value as you could easily spend more hours exploring. Each room you walk through links but also tells a different story and has some great audio, visual and interactive installations.
The Irish dance section was a big hit with our little one and it was hard to get her out to move to the next section as she bopped away.
Very friendly and helpful staff, clean and easy to navigate with great access opportunities and a god send of multiple storage lockers (some free, some needing a 1Euro coin which is returned). Also in the building are multiple eating establishments offering a range of foods and drinks - very popular with business folk who work in the buildings around at lunch time. All in all great value and a great morning spent.

Hi zuzahandbear,
Thank you for visiting EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. We are delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed your visit!
We always recommend visitors allow a minimum of 90 minutes to fully enjoy the experience, however we often hear how people could happily spend much more time here than they had envisaged.
For those short on time we would recommend using our audio guide, available to hire for €2 at our museum, or free when you download our app for mobile.
Tickets to the museum are valid for 10 days, if you feel as if you missed out on certain parts!
We appreciate your recommendation and TripAdvisor review!

I booked Epic for myself,my Dad, niece (9) & nephew (7) ;all four of us had a fantastic time. The museum is divided into 20 rooms spanning from beginning of Irish emigration to modern day and how as a people we have spanned the globe and had an impact on so many other countries and societies.
Belief,Playing the World, Achieving Infamy and Music&Dance were favourite rooms as they were super interactive. Was fun to be in the stands at a sorts match and take a photo, and stand and be measured as one of the Good, the Bad and the Irish. You have to do the front and side profile prisoner photo.
The Riverdance room was great, I recorded my niece, nephew and even my Dad as they repeatedly followed the dance steps.
Everyone gets a souvenir passport that they use to follow the museum tour. My nephew really loved stamping it in each room. It made it even more fun.
From arriving to leaving the staff were super. Greeted with warmth, then as we did the tour, a staff member popped up in some areas to tell small facts and give interesting information. They were all brilliant with the kids.
Staff were friendly and all made the experience even better.
We went on a Saturday afternoon, and parked nearby putting money in a meter. We spent 2 busy hours, but we could easily have stayed longer.
The museum has a kids go free offer when I booked, which made it even more affordable than usual. I would have paid the price of the kids tickets, well worth the money.
All the health and safety measures that Epic has in place gave peace of mind. We all felt safe and as we were there on a really sunny day, we had place almost entirely to ourselves. I have no doubt that with more people it would still have been comfortable. There are lots of machines and screens available throughout the museum which meant everyone could participate and do their own thing, follow
What interested them most.
Overall we had a wonderful day, learned loads and had a good laugh and quality time as a family.
Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone; everyone whether Irish native, resident or tourist should visit. There is something for everyone.
We will definitely be back.
Thanks Epic for a truly memorable experience

The whole experience was great. It is great value for money - we got a virtual masterclass, the virtual santa visit plus the ability to share the link with 3 others to watch live and a recording of the whole thing, and a present in the post as well.
On top of all that the Santa was amazing, all us grown ups were mouthing 'wow' to each other and the kids are all sure they have met the real deal (Im pretty sure I have too!). I'd definitely recommend if they do this again next year.

Fantastic museum and incredibly immersive experience. The museum likely has one of the best mechanics that I have ever experienced in the form of the mini passport, and I would absolutely love to go back again. All content is fascinating and moving, and I would highly recommend this museum to anyone.

Recently booked a visit as my son still on school holidays. Great incentive- kids are free for whole month of August & local restaurant/bar are also offering kids eat free with an adult @ the harbour master.
Check in was prompt as it was Mon morn& was fairly quiet. It was a self guided tour(due to Covid restrictions)
On check in, we were given our passport, map & pen.
My son aged 9 & his pal age 10.
The whole display is so well done(bear in mind the boys were quite interested at the start but they did loose interest half way through)
I’d advise maybe kids from 12yrs that are at least half interested in history.
It’s interactive & very well displayed (from
An adults perspective)
We spent just over 2hrs in there(it flew by for us grown ups)
The history & stories are told very well.
The gift shop at the end was nice to browse in & a lovely lady gave the boys a pen each which was a lovely gesture.
Well done to all the staff who are very visible & available to get some knowledge from also.

We planned a two night trip to Dublin because we wanted to visit EPIC. It was the highlight of our stay. There is a lot to see and the lay out is very well designed so that it flows and seamlessly leads from one theme to another. It begins with the emigration and moves on to all aspects of life. Marcus gave me a great introduction to the Gaelic games! Everyone was welcoming and informative. Having the lockers was very useful as it was wet and windy on our visit, so we were able to walk round comfortably and uncluttered. There is a good balance of information and interaction, which appeals to all ages. It was very interesting to learn how Irish people had settled around the world, and their contributions to society. We spent three hours in EPIC. It's part of the Docklands development with a range of cafes on site. We spoke to a very helpful man at the tourist information booth in the centre who gave us information and discount cards for the Jeanie Johnston replica famine ship across the road (another must see) and the Little Museum in Dublin, which is a fun and informative 'history experience'.

EPIC is a new museum focused on the long history of Emigration from Ireland. It is definitely a new , modern museum with a fresh approach to imparting information. The underground cosy cavern made it feel very manageable: there are lots of interactive activities, which are great for adults and children alike. Visitors receive a passport and gather stamps along their journey. They are plenty of seating areas so if you get tired and just want to sit and think a moment you can. One major plus are the very spacious lockers where you can lock up your coats and bags. You will need a Euro coin to lock the locker, but it is returned to you after use. If you are an emigrant "home on holidays" then be sure to add your name to the wall. We were three adults, but this is a great visit for all ages. Lots of food opportunities in the adjoining mall outside; but be aware most are closed on Sunday and will be very busy with workers during lunch hour on weekdays.

Three generations of my family visited this museum one soggy afternoon in Dublin and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. My mother was an emigrant to America in her past so she found the experience really resonated with her and fascinating. My children (under 12 years) all enjoyed it too as it was so interactive and the guides were a joy to chat with and ask questions.

We’re going on a food walking tour from 11 - 2. Is Epic a place where you can sit for awhile?
Written 12 June 2024
Yes, it is. It has some restaurants in there.

We'll be traveling into Dublin and wanted to see the Museum before checking into our hotel. Would rolling our luggage around be an issue?
Written 15 November 2019
You could get everywhere you want with your luggage but I wouldn’t recommend taking it with you. It would only be in your way und you wouldn’t enjoy the museum as much without it.

Just wondering if the museum would be of interest to an 8 and 9 year old?
Written 29 March 2019
It’s pretty good for that age I think...lots of interacting ways to learn

Is gluten free food served in the cafe? Asking for a close friend
Written 21 May 2018
Hi Matthew,
Our museum itself doesn't have a cafe. However we are located in The CHQ Building, which contains several cafes and restaurants, many of which have gluten-free options. Please visit their website* to view the full range of eateries within the building.
*Apologies, but TripAdvisor does not allow us to place website links in these replies. Please search "The CHQ Building Dublin" to find the web address for CHQ.

Do you have to book your tickets in advance or can you buy when you get there? Would it be booked out?
Also does the family ticket include famine and immigration museums?? Or just one part?
Thanks in advance
Written 2 January 2018
Hi Emma,
A family ticket includes entry to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum exhibition and 20 galleries. Entry to the Irish Family History Centre is not included.

How long should I expect it to take to trace my ancestry? How much family information do I need to bring with me?
Written 14 July 2017
Hi TXgirli45,
As part of EPIC we do have a genealogy centre run by the Irish Family History Centre. It is located to the rear of our gift shop and on exiting our museum. The centre is run by Eneclann, a professional genealogy service. We suggest you contact the Irish Family History Centre directly with your queries as they will be best placed to answer them. They have their own listing here on TripAdvisor, or can be found online by searching their company name.
Regards,
The EPIC Team
