- Susan G3 contributionsGreat eveningJohnny was our storyteller from the Evening of Irish Folklore and Fairies. Johnny shared with us some of Ireland's fantastical fairy tales that have been passed down through generations. His stories of fairies and magic spells fed our childhood imagination. It was a wonderful evening and we cannot wait to return to Ireland to gather around with Johnny for more of his grandly told tales of ancient Ireland.Visited November 2022Written 12 December 2022
- Marianella O1 contributionSo interesting!Johnny was our storyteller from the Evening of Irish Folklore and Fairies for a work event. He shared with us some of Ireland's fantastical fairy tales that have been passed down through generations. He was very flexible and interacted perfectly with our comments and questions. He was definitely a knowledgeable person in the Irish folklore. It was a wonderful evening! As a foreigner I'm always delighted to know more about this beautiful island. Thanks Johnny!Visited December 2022Written 14 December 2022
- Melinda A1 contributionCharming EveningMy husband and I attended this event in 2012! I saved a follow up email because I enjoyed the evening so much I still hope to but have not yet returned to Ireland. It was charming, quaint, and enjoyable. A must do if in Dublin!Visited January 2022Written 30 December 2022
- Gma2 contributionsA true storyteller! We attended the Evening of Folklore and Fairies with Johnny on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. This was such fun, and we were both glad that we had booked this at the beginning of our tour. My favorite part was when Johnny was asked if he really believes in fairies. He grinned and said, “Well, many would say that they do not believe, but we all respect their boundaries.” There’s nothing like the glint in the eye of a true Irish storyteller!Visited November 2022Written 6 February 2023
- Susan H1 contributionCharming and Delightful!I absolutely adored this event! I really felt like I got a glimpse into Irish folklore and culture. The stories were told so well and Johnny was so willing to answer any questions we had. He made every answer into a story and I loved listening! If I'm ever back in Dublin, I'll definitely come again! The food was great too!Visited March 2023Written 20 March 2023
- Scenic40333305388Llantwit Major, United Kingdom1 contributionWonderful Evening! We have just come back from a short break in Dublin and this was definitely one of the highlights. Ollie was very entertaining and treated us to some fantastic Irish Folktales as well as some songs which really brought the Storytelling to life. We enjoyed it so much we even bought his CDs to take back home to Wales with us! Go raibh maith agat from your Celtic Cousins ☺️ Thank you for a great first night in Dublin!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 April 2023
- JRC124North Yorkshire, United Kingdom31 contributionsFascinating TalkWe had a wonderful trip to Dublin and this experience was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. John was an excellent story teller but this was about more than the stories as he explained the psychology behind the myths and how they related to Irish every day life; so interesting. He made the effort to speak with everyone individually and really made us welcome. It was a captivating evening and I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in folklore, Irish culture and legend, or the understanding of how the mind works.Visited April 2023Written 18 April 2023
- SFAimeeSan Francisco, California3 contributionsFrom start to finish an incredibly engaging show!Absolutely one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland. Even bought his cd to listen to at home. Come early to enjoy the Temple Bar atmosphere and get a pint before the stories. Very kid friendly.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 April 2023
- PattyF1976Arlington, Virginia32 contributionsGreat Irish Storytelling!Highly recommend the Irish Storytelling session at this classic Irish pub, the Stag’s Head. When my husband and I arrived, we got our Guinnesses from the bar and settled in for about an hour and a half of very entertaining and informative stories. Tip: there is no food available for this performance, so don’t come hungry. Highly recommend The Old Mill for post-show dinner. It’s less than a 5 min. walk from the Stag’s Head.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 May 2023
- Lisa B2 contributionsFor history buffsI personally loved this. But I do think it helps to be a big history nerd. It wasn’t quite what I expected. I was thinking more of dramatic story telling of the legends. The second half was story telling. As a nerd, I loved it.Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 9 June 2023

I initially thought it would be interesting to attend an event like this as a new experience. It was more interesting and very informative and surprising very well done and entertaining. Johnny was a very good story teller and I could have listened for hours more.

Johnny was knowledgeable, erudite, and captivated with his philosophical breakdown of the role of storytelling in ancient Irish life. Not to mention, the stories themselves were good fun. I felt like a kid round the fire again!

It was very interesting to learn about Folklore and Fairies though it was a bit hard to understand the guide due to his thick accent.

This was a lovely evening of the history of Irish folklore and the fairy world combined with several stories themselves. Our storyteller, Johnny, had a fantastic delivery that really draws the listener in.
The bar the event is hosted at is also a classic Irish bar recommended by many of the food tours so you can check that off your tour list at the same time.

I see some listing that have this experience at the Brazen Head. This is a different location. Is it the same experience just a new location? Or are there 2 different shows, 1 at each place?
Thanks!

I noticed the location has changed to O'Sheas on Talbot Street. Can anyone comment if this venue is as good as Brazen Head?

It wasn’t bad but I think the Brazen Head made it a more well-rounded experience in terms of atmosphere. And I think the Brazen Head food was better as well.
Is this every night? Is it usually recommended to make reservations for The Brazen Head in general?
Mirjam D

The Brazen Head doesnt need a reservation. It can get crowded, but you should be able to find space to sit or stand. The storytelling definitely needs a reservation. We booked on the day itself, so that might be a possibility for you too.

Do we need reservations for the evening of food, fun and folklore? I have emailed, but no reply. There will only be 4 of us, we don't want to just go for dinner...we want the "whole experience"!! Thanks for your review which has helped make me even more certain that this is what I want to do during the short time we'll be in Dublin!!

It is at Brazen Head just outside of Temple Bar. Google maps says it’s about a 20 minute drive and a 50 minute walk from where your staying.

They had a vegetarian option on the menu, which I had. It had Brie cheese on it, however. I am sure if you contact them ahead, they can accommodate you, as they are a full service restaurant/bar. Have a great time in Ireland!
