    Insightful & interesting tour
Historic graveyard tour of key Irish figures' resting place with knowledgeable guide. This is a really interesting tour of the burial place of so many key figures in Irish history. Our tour guide Alan Cleary was a font of knowledge & information & gave us some great tips. Including re the women's history tour on Sundays! It was my second visit & I took a Lisbon friend - lovely coffee/cake in warm cafe after 👌🏻 PS Go to the Gravediggers for a glass of Guinness too! 😁 Date of experience: March 2023

    Tears at the graveside
A young guide, Lauren, led a group (15) of us on a tour of Historical Characters buried in Glasnevin today. Visiting a bone yard does not sound very interesting. But she told us some great stories of the heroic characters buried there. I’ve had an interest in Irish history forever, but she brought the characters to life and had a lot of information I had not heard before. She emphasised the female heroes which was terrific. Who knew the Rod Stewart visited to grave of Grace Gifford every time he comes to Dublin. I’m sure most of us have heard “Grace” ,a haunting love song beautifully sung by Rod, and did not know it’s origin. Lauren you nearly made us cry. Well done and thank you.

    History and Heritage trip
Anyone with an interest in our history and heritage will appreciate this tour of Glasnevin cemetery. Our tour guide was Lauren, who over 90 minutes took us on a tour of the graveyard pointing out the most well known graves and not so well known men and women who played such a large part in our journey to independence and freedom. Her knowledge was outstanding and her explanations given in easy to comprehend language. We finished the tour by climbing the 195 steps of the Daniel O Connell tower which gave us great views of greater Dublin. A well earned coffee in the cafe and a browse in the shop completed our day. I would highly recommend this tour, a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in the capital city.

    Amazing!
Glasnevin has been on my bucket list forever and it didn't disappoint! The biggest graveyard in Ireland is full of history and well worth a visit if you enjoy Irish history. Our tour guide Ultan was highly entertaining, full of funny tales and facts. He was a great story teller, so informative and truly made for the most enganging tour guide. I really enjoyed the Irish history tour it was amazing to see Michael Collins grave and hear all the stories and tales of the Big Fellow and so many other notable Irish figures. I cannot recommend the tour enough, if your considering visiting Glasnevin take the tour you be so amazed by what you learn! Don't forget to touch Daniel O'Connell casket for luck!!!

Glasnevin Cemetery - Don't Miss Visiting This Amazing Place
This proved to be the highlight on our four-day trip to Dublin. Cemeteries are always fascinating places, and this proved to be no exception, The superb visitor centre gave us the low-down (literally) on this amazing place, first opened in 1832. Along with a superb cafe, it truly is a place for living mortals to visit those immortalised in stone. Topping if off was Warren, our exemplary guide. His vast knowledge gave us fascinating snapshots of the life and times of some of the leading figures of Irish history who lie within the cemetery's walls. Delivered with insight, context and humour ... and phenomenally without notes. Don't miss a chance to go there. You won't be disappointed.

    Irish history in a nutshell
Such a beautiful graveyard with so much fascinating history. Do the history tour. It lasts 90 minutes, not much walking but all standing. Alan was an amazing guide. So engaging and full of information. Even my girls 15 & 11 thoroughly enjoyed it. Tag it onto the Botanic Gardens which are also beautiful for an unforgettable day out in Dublin.

    Beautiful and well kept
Me and my friend sadly couldn’t get on a tour, so we just walked around which at least was free. The cemetery is very well kept and maintained, although the graves at the back are a little run down and others could do with a cleaning, but no worse than a typical graveyard. The graves of notables are very clean

    Fantastic Tour
What a fantastic tour. Yesterday as part of a group of 11, with some extreme history nerds we did the Glasnevin tour with Lauren. I am ashamed to say it was my first time, while some of the group were doing it for anything up to the 10th time, it being something they take visitors to the city to do. From the forgotten 10, through Daniel O'Connell and stories about each person of note, Lauren really knew her stuff and was open to having a laugh and joke with the group. After the tour we did climb the 198 steps to the top of the Daniel O'Connell tower. Tough steep climb for the unfit but worth it for the views at the top. You can't know where you are going, if you dont know where you come from. A great way to spend 90mins or so on a sunny day.

    Brilliant historical experience
Brilliant place, lots of historical information about the deaths of everyday people as well as Irish heroes like Daniel O’Connell and Michael Collins. The tour was amazing as well, you get to learn the stories of those buried at the cemetery and how they came to be, alongside the O’Connell tower and WW1 + 2 memorials. The gift shop has nice historic items like the proclamation and books about the War of Independence and Civil War, I HIGHLY recommend any who has an interest in Irish history or history in general to go to Glasnevin Cemetety.

Went here with my boyfriend as he's very much into his Irish history, his Grandfather was Irish and the books he reads are all about the 1916 Easter Rising, his hero's are in the cemetery, Michael Collins and Eamon De Velera, others aswell who aren't in the cemetery but it's always been somewhere he's wanted to go.
The trip around the cemetery was really interesting and the tour guide was brilliant, he made it fun as well, there's a cafe, and when you buy the ticket for the tour you can wander round upstairs and downstairs the history museum.
The cemetery is very well looked after, give it a go even if you think it's not going to be for you

A quick note to say a huge THANK YOU to the team at Glasnevin Cemetery tour and visitors centre.

I brought my mam and my teenage daughter during the February midterm and we all equally loved the tour. Not only was it hugely informative….more importantly, it was immensely enjoyable.

We each came away, learning something new as well as having a deeper appreciation for all of the history that is steeped in Glasnevin cemetery as woven through Irish history and culture.

A special word of thanks to the fantastic Shane for being a wonderful guide in terms of his friendliness, his engagement and in his generosity of time and deep knowledge of the cemetery and a deeper love of Ireland and our rich heritage.

Thank you so so much, we will be returning for the Women in History tour!

This is not to be missed, we had a tour with Pat and he was so passionate and knowledgeable about who we were seeing. The cemetery is too big to explore without the tour, you’ll miss important people tucked away. I would recommend starting your Dublin trip here as the names and timeline of Dublin make so much more sense. There is a small exhibition included in your ticket which is interesting and doesn’t take long to go through. We did get a bit confused about where the tour actually started but check in at the museum and your guide will pick you up.

Bridget Sheerin was a really excellent tour guide, she is the voice of experience at Glasnevin Cemetery and could tell us so many stories and shared many, many fascinating snippets of information, history about people that we would know about and many that we did not, including about the actual physical space. Bridget is a very proud tour guide, proud of Glasnevin, proud to be Irish and it really came across, she was also extremely friendly and very kindly took her tea break with myself and my husband. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We will definitely be back for another tour. Go raibh mile maith agat.

This was my second time doing the tour. The first was a few years ago, and this time, a friend who I knew liked cemeteries was visiting, so I decided to do it again. We had a brilliant tour led by Kate, who continued bravely despite the awful rain. She was really informative and helpful with any questions we had.

The reception team was also incredibly helpful when I wanted to look up a particular grave. Clean bathrooms and a nice cafe/exhibition area make this a must-visit for locals and tourists alike.
