Love the statue, not the people around her
I'm glad that I saw it, but, I wish I'd known beforehand (maybe I should have read reviews, haha!) that it's a touristy and/or customary thing to get your picture taken with your hands on... certain parts of her. One of the things I loved so much about Ireland was how the art and statues and memorials are all RIGHT THERE and you can get so close, and touch things, really feel the weight of history. But for this? The poor woman. It was kind of sad to see a bunch of drunk people, or people egging each other on, or people making their KIDS go up and grab her, just for a photo op. The statue itself was a work of art. The tourists? Not so much.

A nice enough statue drawing in the crowds
Worth a quick visit to watch all the tourists queueing to have their photos taken by the nice lady and the men cheekily rubbing her expansive bosom. I waited quite some time to take a photo without all the crowds of people. She's quite easy to find and the way there is well signposted.

Stop Touching This Poor Woman’s Boobs
I guess the question is… who was Molly Malone? Some say Molly Malone is a fictional character who never existed. Others say Molly Malone represents Peg Plunkett, a powerful business woman who owned her own brothel. You’ll have to research and opine yourself. One thing is certain, a lot of people have touched Molly’s boobs. The Molly Malone Statue, located in Dublin, Ireland, is a popular landmark. The statue depicts a fishmonger Molly Malone, a character from the famous Irish folk song "Cockles and Mussels." Unveiled in 1988 and sculpted by Jeanne Rynhart, the statue has become an iconic symbol of Dublin.

Easy to find and if lucky will not be covered by tourists who for some reason want to rub poor Molly's breasts. A link to the story is at the sight.

My mum raised me on a lot of Irish folk music, so we had to visit this statue together when we visited Dublin. It's pretty, easy to find and a cute spot to take pictures.

According to the song Molly Malone wheels her wheelbarrow selling cockles and mussels.

There is no evidence of mouldy shellfish on the statue of her that remembers her. She is standing next to her wheelbarrow and is depicted looking fit and healthy. No sign of a fever.

The statue is tucked away but not very far from O'Connell Street Bridge and St Stephen's Green.

A nice little statue to remember one of Dublin's legendary residents.

Honoring a fictional street hawker and part time prostitute of the seventeenth century, who through song, composed in 1876 has become an iconic Dubliner who is now celebrated with her own National Day. A statue of her was erected in 1988, which has now become almost a pilgrimage point for overseas travelers.

I got a quick photo of Molly as we were walking down the street. The statue of Molly pushing her cart is rather large (unlike the little mermaid) and very detailed. The statue represents an old, mysterious story set in Dublin about a beautiful young girl who worked as a fishmonger during the day and a prostitute at night until she suddenly died of a fever. After her death, the story says her ghost began haunting the streets of Dublin at night. I didn't know that, to ensure yourself good luck, you were supposed to rub her breasts until I started writing this post and saw what someone else had written. Well, maybe on my next visit to Dublin.

I'm not sure that "younger" folks know the song, but this is a great representation of a young Irish woman with her wares: cockles and mussels.

This stop is a pure photo op and very popular attraction in Dublin. If you're lucky like we were for a moment you may get the statue all to yourself.
