McNeills of Capel Street Established in 1834 began life as a traditional Irish music instruments shop before evolving to a pub / bar dedicated to furthering and promoting the real culture of traditional Irish Music. A commitment to nurturing Irish music with open sessions held Thursday through Sunday from 9pm with many of the best musicians in the capital regularly playing and visiting. A true institution the history of the premises is long and storied including the fact that the horn that sounded the infamous charge of the light brigade during the Crimean war was constructed in these very rooms. Located centrally a five minute walk from Temple Bar but without the rip off prices or nauseating fakeness, come give us a visit.

We popped in to catch/learn about the hurling game, and grab a pint. Ended up never leaving and enjoyed the best Irish duo in Dublin. This was a true Irish “Cheers” kind of bar where everyone knew your name!

I hadn’t heard of McNeill’s before but what a surprise when we walked in on a Tuesday night. Eight musicians playing traditional Irish music. A typical Dublin local, no frills, with great atmosphere. Apparently the musicians were not organised- just arrived. A fantastic experience. Spread...More

Fantastic Music! You have to try their toasted sandwiches along with your pint. Friendly staff and locals. I would highly recommend it.

I don't have a bad word to say about this place. People were very friendly, bar staff and clients alike. The trad was proper and once it finished customers took turns to sing their own song. It was great fun as some people were incredible...More

This is a decent pub with a good selection of beers but the barman does not need to be the centre of attention. Let the customers at the bar talk to each other without constantly giving your opinion!
