The Liffy River boat cruise may be an interesting attraction, but they do not follow their own posted departure schedule. In the morning on the day we wished to take the cruise, we checked their website at:
http://www.liffeyrivercruises.com/
I noted that their the web page showing the cruise departure schedule did not have a phone number to call, but one could purchase one's tickets on-line. That would have been a BIG MISTAKE! I am very glad that we did not.
We followed their schedule and we were at the dock at Custom's House Quay at the posted departure time, only to watch the boat motor down the river right passed us! I could have easily thrown a beer bottle and hit the captain's windshield - it was only 12 feet away!
Since there was no attendant or ticket booth at Customs Quay, there was no one to ask. We decided to get some lunch. Eventually we walked the quarter mile up the river to their other departure point and found a ticket booth at Bachelors Walk Quay just before 2 PM. I recalled that they had a 2:15 departure, so we tried to take it. When I spoke to the agent at the window and told her our earlier problem, she assured me that I had looked at the wrong schedule, one that must have been outdated. I told her flat out that she was wrong and that I had looked at their posted schedule that morning on the website. She really didn't seem to believe me that their posted schedule was incorrect. Then I asked about taking the 2:15 departure. I was told that there was indeed a 2:15 PM departure, but it would be leaving a quarter mile down the river at the Custom's House Quay! It was now shortly after 2 PM, so that was it, we were not going to run a quarter mile down the sidewalk to catch the boat.
When we returned back to the apartment, I checked on-line again. Someone had edited the departure page postings for the day. The change they added now specified today's date, the very day that all this confusion took place. However, the departure times and departure locations had not changed - it was the very set that caused the confusion and frustration for us. We WERE AT the specified departure quays at the correct times for both posted sailings, only to have the boat leave form the other quay at each instance!
We have a few days left in Dublin, but are not going to attempt this attraction again. I would recommend that one SHOULD NOT prepay the tickets on-line. The discount from the prices posted at the ticket both are not a substantial savings. Worse, you could easily end up with a ticket that you cannot figure out how to use.
Again, this may be an interesting tourist attraction, but it was nothing but an exercise in frustration in trying to catch the boat!
