There were 19 in our party; we all had a wonderful meal; the entertainment was wonderful!! A couple of us cried with the rendition of Danny Boy.....absolutely beautiful! The music, with the variety of instruments, the songs and the great Irish humor was priceless. Anyone going to Ireland should absolutely try to get in to see this show. I had accidentally left my fanny pack with $$$ in it; retrieved it the next day and everything was still there. Not sure that would happen in USA! They refused a tip; truly remarkable staff!

I went as part of a coach tour and we sat in the large upstairs room (like a beerhall).
Pros - good food and lots of it, service, dancing.
Cons - very noisy and crowded (~200 people), quite a way out of the city through heavy rush hour traffic (90 minutes).

Dear Mike
Thanks for your review. Just in relation to the travel time to get to us, this sounds most unusual - typically the travel time from city centre (e.g. from Trinity College) would be no more than 30-40 mins and even less in summertime. This journey in the light of summertime is a very pleasant one through Dublin's south side en route to our destination pub. There must have been some serious disruption to traffic flows on the your evening of your visit for it to have taken that long. The return time after the show, when all traffic is gone is 20/25 minutes. Apologies if it detracted from an otherwise enjoyable experience.

The website is good, booking is simple and the shuttle service from and to the city centre is well organised. The show and music was very good - however one has to be aware that it is not what some would expect as an "authentic" or "spontaneous" musical experience. Large groups of tourists are attending the show. Food was rather average.

The musicians and dancers are wonderful. It was advertised as Irish music and dancing, and I love the dancing which was only 25% of the entertainment. Dinner was as you would expect for a dinner-show - wilted pre-plated salads, bulk cooked mains, doughy apple pie. Service was quite slow. Go for the Irish musicians and dancers!

My 85 year old Dad and I had a very enjoyable night at the Merry Ploughboy dinner and show. The food was more than adequate and served by a competent staff. The Merry Ploughboy Irish band was delightful; full of energy and good humor. We especially enjoyed the instrumentals played on drums and pipes we had never seen before. The dancers were enthusiastic and well choreographed. All-in-all, while a bit touristy offering music we’ve heard in the US before, we had a lovely evening. It was especially nice to get into the countryside away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Dublin. Best of all, the transportation to and from convenient locations near our hotel was an added bonus….precise communication, directions and execution made this event worry free. I’d recommend the show to any and all!!!!

A fun night for our extended family. Food was so much better than we were expecting- not easy to mass-produce food for a huge crowd! Speaking of crowd… it was FULL. Too loud to have a conversation during dinner which was a downside. Also they way they require table side payment every time you order anything to drink- very annoying! But overall an evening I’d recommend. Talented musicians who worked to engage the crowd, and great dancers!

We had a group of 38 and the service was great. The drive was " a bit" and we weren't in the best mood when we got there. BUT, the experience was SO worth the drive. The music was fascinating. The dancing was Broadway worthy. Food and service --- top notch.
We had around 13 teens, 4 college students and the rest adults...everyone loved it.

I came to the merry ploughboy on my honeymoon about two weeks ago. The guys were very kind, the show was amazing, and I really enjoyed my time there. A very fun and intimate experience. I highly recommend visiting. Oh, and the food was so delicious. There's nothing better than dinner & a show.

We had a Fantastic night here, the entertainment was outstanding. The food was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. To top it off the shuttle bus picked us up right beside our hotel and left us back at the door after the show. We highly recommended this night out in Dublin.

A great venue, Irish music, great food and great show. A very enjoyable evening out in Dublin, off the beaten path but definitely worth the trip. Very entertaining group of musicians and a great dance group too. About a 3 hour experience but so worth it! The staff was fantastic and service was excellent. A must see for sure.

How did I purchase your cds and get them shipped to Phoenix, Arizona in USA? Also, what will the cost be?
Written 14 July 2018
I'm very sure that The Merry Ploughboy themselves will give you a comprehensive answer (perhaps tomorrow because it's Sunday here) - I'm afraid I know nothing about postage to Arizona!
Written 15 July 2018
How do I order your CDs from here in Phoenix, Az, USA?
Written 14 July 2018
The only advice I could give you is contact them directly.

No prices given. What would be cost of dinner and show Wednesday, 20 July? Please give in USD or Euro. Also time frame.
Thank you, Kathryn

Hi Kathryn, dinner and show is 49.50 Euro per person. Round trip shuttle from Dublin City centre is 10 Euro per person. This can be booked online on our website at the same time as booking dinner and show. If you have any other questions just let us know. Eoghan.

Hi, We own a pub in Stone Lake. We have a photo of a brochure that a staff member brought back from a visit to Ireland two weeks ago. Who would I contact to connect for marketing?
Written 28 April 2018
Hi Sarah, you can contact myself (Eoghan) or Donal via Email through the pub website.

Do you pick up from Dublin Skylon? If not what would be the return taxi fare please?
Written 21 February 2018
They picked us up at the Shelbourne. We met a friend there that lives in Dublin and road back in his taxi. He picked up the tab.
Highly recommend the Merry Ploughboy. Just the best. Go into the pub after dinner and the show.
Have fun.

Hello! On Sunday, June 18th our party of 4 will be staying at the Powerscourt Hotel. We would like to come to your dinner/show that night. Do you offer shuttle service from this location? Thank you so much!
Written 24 April 2017
Hi Peter, unfortunately that date is currently fully booked. If you drop us an email with your details we can waitlist you. We would be happy to help arrange a direct pick-up for your gang from the Powerscourt Hotel with one of our regular taxi drivers if the date frees up. There is one large group booked who have not finalised their numbers so it would be worthwhile waitlisting.
Written 24 April 2017
Hi Med9, you can purchase "tickets" online, (including shuttle transfer from your choice of city centre locations) directly from the Merrry Ploughboy Pub website. You will receive a confirmation email which you may print off yourself if you wish, but you do not need to do so. Once you make the booking we will have all your details, it's just a matter of you showing up on the night.

I am planning to bring a party of 4 to a show in June. However, we would prefer to stay at the pub for a while after the show and take a taxi back to downtown (near Trinity College) when we choose, rather than taking the shuttle. Will there be any difficulty getting a cab to the pub, and how long ahead would we need to call them?
Written 2 February 2017
Hi Donal here from the Merry Ploughboy. No diffuculty in calling a taxi for you at the end of the night. Look forward to seeeing you at the pub! Donal

what is the easiest way to get there from the Clayton at the airport?
Written 30 January 2017
Hi Gilbert, from Dublin airport you would need to drive or take a taxi. If you have to drive, you can email us and we can try and arrange a reduced, fixed fare for you.
