    Great Museum in Dun Laoghaire
My sister and I discovered this hidden gem in Dun Laoghaire. We both grew up on the ocean and therefore have a great interest in maritime history. This museum, housed in an old seafarer's church, is a bit out of the way, but is absolutely worth the trip by DART or taxi. The folks at the museum are very friendly and eager to answer any questions you may have. The displays in the museum are first rate. I highly recommend this museum, you will need at least 3 hours to see everything.

    Charming and fascinating museum
We dropped into this delightful museum on a whim, and we left wishing we'd been able to spend more time in it. Its run by a team of knowledgeable enthusiasts who seem very happy to talk about the exhibits, which include a magnificent lamp and lens from the lighthouse at Howth as well as many other interesting artefacts. The building is a former church and has retained many of its beautiful original features. A real gem.

    A lovely little gem
This museum, situated in the old mariner's Church is inexpensive and is packed with exhibits. It's not a large museum but what it does have is very good. There are model ships and bits and bobs from ships as well as some fascinating information about Ireland's Lighthouses including a fully restored, rotating light head from a lighthouse you can see up close. It may not be very exciting for children, but if like me, you are interested in maritime history, this museum is a lovely place to spend an hour or two. The staff were extremely friendly and enthusiastic.

    Enjoyable and interesting afternoon
Really enjoyable and hidden delight in busy Dun Laoghaire . The staff are fantastic and go the extra mile to make our experience all the better. They are fantastic at interacting with children too. Lovely afternoon spent there and definitely will be back. You don’t know what you’re missing

    Well worth visiting.
This was on my to-do list for a while. I booked the tour & it was very good. The church itself is beautiful & the perfect place to house the museum. Our guide was interesting & moved along at the perfect pace, going through the history & development of DL Harbour, shipwrecks in the bay, rnli & lighthouses etc. The collection of artefacts is impressive. I would highly recommend a visit.

Big shout out to this lovely man, Frank. My son and I visited the @maritimemuseumofireland in @dunlaoghairetown and we enjoyed a wonderful and interesting tour of the exhibits. Frank pictured here with my son was exceptional, his knowledge is second to none and to hear about some of his maritime adventures he has had so far in his life was a privelidge. It was also a lovely connection to discover that he went to school with my Dad Ken and his brother Norman in the Mariners school many moons ago. And he also remembered my uncle Doug as "the little one" which was lovely.
Highly recommended as a day out in Dun Laoghaire.

We were thrilled to visit this museum today. My 10 yo son loves anything to do with ships or the navy and this was great for him. It was also good for my 7 yo daughter as there are plenty of hands-on interactive exhibits aimed at children. The mariners church itself is absolutely beautiful, which is topped only by the glistening Bailey Lighthouse optic.

My only constructive criticisms/negatives would be that the interactive exhibits could do with sprucing up/replacing parts and there could be a small table and chair set in the “library” area for kids to read the books provided so they don’t have to sit on the floor.

We will be back!

The museum is housed in the incredibly beautiful seafarers church in dun laoghaire. The building its self is really the highlight. The exhibits are fine, with information on several irish maritime disasters but i do feel that it is a little underfunded, and in a country whose seafarers, like beaufort, admiral brown and others have made such an impact on the world i feel it should have more support. All in all it was enjoyable, if a little underwhelming. The staff are fantastically friendly however and a real pleasure to chat to

This is a hidden gem located in the next little town from the James Joyce Heritage Centre and Museum. You can easily walk here from there. There are two floors of maritime artifacts. You will see model ships, an actual lighthouse light, and hear stories of maritime events. Many good spots for taking photographs. There is even a radio room where you can put on a hat and jacket and look like a marine communications officer. All for six euros per person. On your way back to the.DART train, stop by the waterfront. Take a picture of the beautiful town sign. See the photos. See also my review of the James Joyce Centre.

Unfortunately, I wasn't thrilled with the visit. The museum is inside an old deconsecrated church. The entire internal route takes no more than 15 minutes. It gave me the impression that many objects were put there purely for filling, to lengthen the broth!
