Ballinskelligs Priory was founded when the monks on Skellig Michael left the island in the 12th century and adopted Augustinian rule. The ruins are mostly 15th century, with a modern cemetery and ocean views.

Wonderful old setting for the final resting place of loved ones. Quiet, stunning surroundings and plenty of ambience. Worth a visit even. If you do not want to visit an ancestor. The graves are random and the ground rough. However, the council are doing a sterling job of restoring the remains! The Barry's and Mc Carthy's are well represented. If... More

We stopped off to see this place towards the end of our day of travelling around the Ring of Kerry. Fascinating ruins with such an old burial ground - which is still in use today. Several recent burials had taken place when we visited. Well worth a stop off when you see the sign on the roadside.

This place is seriously cool. Before you go in someone made a map and list of the stones so if you are tracing your relatives it must be really good. I think most of the people buried here were blasket islanders. It is very beautiful anyway with gorgeous backdrop of the beach and we had a nice picnic here.

A really beautiful place to take some photos, especially on a sunny day when the water nearby is Caribbean blue. But it's not really a tourist attraction. other than a sign that tells you what it is it's just a graveyard! Albeit a lovely one!

We found this old monastery by chance and were fascinated by the history here. A great place for those interested in history and wonderful to see restoration being done as it is so important to preserve these places. We enjoyed wandering through and had a real sense of the past. Easy to find from the Ring of Kerry and is... More

Have not been to Ballinskelligs in 20 some odd yrs. To see the burial grounds or as my family called it the "Monastery", still in the same shape was incredible. Graves go back to my grandmother's great-great grandparents. That is where they all went down to the water's edge in the monastery's graveyard! To get there one must travel thru... More
