- Sibhk3 contributionsWell worth a tripWe took our little girl here on her 2nd birthday. It was the highlight of the day! She absolutely loved every minute of it! She loves animals so she was in her element and to able to play in the play areas. Great value for money! Definitely returning for her 3rd birthdayVisited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 June 2024
- TignishTraveller99 contributionsInteresting tour and delicious foodWe visited the farm as part of a tour group. We had a tour of the farm by Mike, who explained what life on the farm would have been like when it was in operation. We were given a butter making demonstration then invited in for a traditional meal that included black pudding, salad, Irish stew and bread pudding. While we ate, we were entertained by a couple of talented ladies who sang and played traditional Irish music. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend the experience.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 June 2024
- Michelle kisslerAthens, Greece102 contributionsHighly recommend this! It’s a fun experience. This was so fun! After seeing the Muckross House & Gardens it was really educational to see how more normal people - farmers, laborers, craftsmen, teachers - lived. I also have wanted to pet a sheep since we arrived in Ireland. Not because we don’t have them at home in the states, we do, but they are EVERYWHERE here and so stinking cute. So getting a little petting zoo of farm animals here was really fun. All of the tour guides were so knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this!Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 June 2024
- FederalMomKingston, Canada488 contributionsOn our tour with RIT (Royal Irish Tours)Wow. Was not sure what to expect. This surpassed all expectations. From our first introduction to Mike, and his explanation of how a farm would run in the 1940's; to meeting Joan, Mary and Mary. The ladies were friendly and lovely. The meal was fabulous. The ambiance and atmosphere, fantabulous. The musical entertainment; absolutely wonderful! I give this experience an 11/10!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 September 2024

The traditional farm was very good. The only negative is that it took a LOT more walking than expected to get to the first site and between sites. But the people in the buildings were very entertaining overall--especially the "teacher" in the school house who provide a fun lesson in Gaelic. Make sure you hit the large barn in farthest back area to pet all the baby animals, too!

On our visit to Killarney National Park we started with Muckross House and Farms. We bought the combo ticket, and toured the house and gardens first, which were in a pretty setting and good example of a manor house. We then walked to the farm which offered a good representation of the various workings of an Irish farm and the people needed to keep it running. There was a steep walk to the first building, so we took the shuttle, which was easy to access. We enjoyed the animal exhibits, and the staff explaining butter and bread baking were interesting. Ample parking and a gift shop with light food available.

We had a fabulous experience at Muckross Traditional Farm yesterday. It's exceptionally authentic and fantastic value for money (€7 per adult). We spent over 3 hours there, expecting to only be there for an hour. The guides throughout are brilliant, answering each and every question about the old days and processes of making butter etc. enthusiastically and warmly, The petting farm element is wonderful and our son got to touch a couple of animals. The playground at the end is a great addition. We entirely recommend this for young and old alike and will return on our next trip.

Wasn’t sure what to expect but this farm is really well done. Was just the right length of time, not too long. I was surprised at how much our young kids enjoyed it. The people working in the different buildings giving info on the buildings and history were fab, and really kept it interesting for everyone. Our favourite was the lady carpenter in the carpenter’s building. A pure lady and very talented. The buildings were all well maintained and give a good insight into life from years gone by. Lots of fun was had at the woodland play area.

It seemed to be a very tired place run by a bunch of "farm hands" who are not that wild about their jobs. Worst of all was the treatment of animals. A largish bunch of ducks was confined to a very small area with only a small basin of very putrid water for them to swim in or drink. I asked an employee why the ducks had water that was so unclean. He said that they were under orders to change it once a week, and since it was Friday it was about to be changed the next day. Would it kill them to change the water more often? It really looked horribly dirty. We saw a duck in another area drinking from a pail with filthy water. A poor small donkey stood anchored to a fence hooked on to some sort of wagon. He looked so sad, and he was tied up right in the sun. When we asked out this they removed the wagon but left him tethered to the fence. We saw a horse with his head tied closely to his stall so he could barely move. A pair of dogs was forced to stay in a very spasely furnished pen in the petting area. There was nothing in it but a small bit of straw. No toys at all. One of the dogs kept jumping out and a man kept yelling at it to go back in, and the dog acted genuinely afraid of the man. He was so hungry he was nibbling on the dregs of the pig slop that had fallen outside the pigpen. The pigs themselves needed more slop The other pens did not look much better. There was no one to help us pet the animals or to educate us about them in any way. A pair of Irish wolfhounds, kept outside, looked so sad and they were unbelievably dirty and rumpled looking. We asked about their condition of the dogs and were told it was almost supper time for them so that's why they looked sad. We were very sorry we had spent our time seeing this, it just made us feel terrible. We should have spent the time in the house and the arboretum instead We hope to find out who we can write to about the sad state of these animals when we get home. It was truly a disgrace. Maybe the farms are meant to be traditional, but that doesn't mean the animals cannot be treated humanely in accordance with today's standards.
