Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have no idea what the butter slip is, but if it's in Kilkenny then we probably did it! Kilkenny is a wonderful town where there is tons to see, lots of places/history to absorb and a great place to let your imagination run wild! We loved this town and it's friendliness and charm. Everyone is friendly and you can walk the whole place in a day. I think we walked it several times! For us, it's not a "several day" trip, but it is a definite "must do"! We were here right before the hurling final and were cheering for Kilkenny because of the town and the people! Put this on your list!

I walk through this medieval little alley every chance I get while in Kilkenny. You can feel the history in the air. As the warning sign states, it can be slippery because the the worn stone do be careful.

I heard about this passage and walked to it. I did not see one stick of butter, and I didn't see one person slip.

It was a quiet day in the medieval city, saw a lane, fell all the way down the steps, would not recommend!

Every time I visit Kilkenny I have to walk through. I'm walking through history that is still relevant. A moment to dream of past times

We went to an information centre to pick up a Historic Walking Tour for $ 7.00 euro’s each. The tour guide was quite knowledgeable and gave us a better understanding of the butter slip. He was also very helpful for any of the questions asked about Kilkenny. I would definitely recommend a walking tour as it gives you a better appreciation of where you are and the history of the town.

It's a small approx 14 ft wide passage from one street to the next with a few shops in-between. There are alley ways more exciting!

The Butter Slip is a narrow little alley way, connecting the High St. with the pedestrianised Kieran St. It's hundreds of years old and very authentic, but it's about 30m long and it's just an alleyway!

The town + Medieval Mile + castle grounds are all great for walking. We did a short guided walking tour and learned lots of history.
