This is part of the "Medieval Mile" walk, and we'll worth the small admission fee (I think it was 4 euros) for a self-guided tour. The houses are neat, and have good history), and the courtyards are beautiful, but the garden is AMAZING. I want to live there, garden there, work there, just BE there!

We visited Rothe House and found it a very interesting experience but we felt that there was so much more that could have been done to improve and add to this experience. There has been a great effort to present the historical information to visitors but it needs serious updating to appeal to modern visitors. There could be updated computer... More

We found the Rothe House fun to explore. This is Ireland’s only surviving 17th century merchant’s house.

We weren't aware of or planning on visiting Rothe House but as we had a while to wait for our tour of the Smithwicks Experience so we crossed the road and gave it a go. The three houses are beautifully maintained and restored and we were amazed at the before and after pictures of the gardens its hard to believe... More

An interesting structure of 3 interconnected houses, each built behind one another with intervening courtyards, presumably as the family expanded. The stone buildings themselves are lovely and things like the well and the garden give you a sense of how a family might have catered for themselves. Sadly it was raining heavily on the day we visited so we weren't... More

Set on a busy street - Rothe House is a step back into history when Kilkenny was head of the Irish Confederacy in mid 1600's. Really well run and gives you a feel of the times. Gardens at the rear are lovely for a stroll our picnic.

We really enjoyed our visit to Rothe house - the medieval building is superbly maintained and restored. Visitors have guidebooks and follow a trail around the house and gardens. It is very good value but I would be prepared to pay more for better presentation of the artefacts in the house. I believe that they are raising money to make... More

The house and gardens is self guided. You get a little booklet that describes the rooms / features but would be much more interesting if there was a proper tour guide. Nice to visit but we were expecting more.

Fabulous house and gardens. Incredible place with a beautiful garden. Well worth a visit. Nancy was great, so knowledgeable. From the ladies from Cork who live in Dublin.
