You arrive as strangers but leave as friends, such is the craic. - Pam R6 contributionsMy favorite pub in the worldIf cozy and small is your jam, this is the place for you! It is the best little pocket of goodness in Kilkenny. The ambiance lends to natural conversations among the patrons (the best bit). And if a wandering musician happens to stop in, well then, that is when the real magic happens! I hope that someday you will be as lucky as we were with our experiences here.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 August 2024

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such a rare find in the heart of Kilkenny.......once you find it! A totally unexpected surprise & an entertaining evening lies behind the door. Great staff and the landlords tales were a pleasure to listen to. An impromptu music session by customers was concluded by great tunes from the bar man aka Johnny Cash! This is the cosiest & friendliest pub in Kilkenny. We will most definitely be back!

I can't tell you how much this was an amazing visit. The guy behind the bar started with a historical tour of the building, but it turns out he is a pioneering cardiologist. We had so much informative fun. Anyone who came into the bar was made to feel at home and we had such a laugh. Can't recommend enough!

This hidden gem (and I really mean hidden) is not to be missed when visiting Kilkenny. Not only do you feel like you have been transported to a different time but the proprietor is a fountain of historic information not only about the origins of the bar but Kilkenny in general. Wish we had planned our visit better to stay longer and listen to this engaging storyteller with a surprising “second” career. Once again - not to b missed.

Absolutely must make a stop here if you visit Kilkenny. Hidden gem of a pub and a great Guinness. Live music on the weekends. The door is on the right when you go down the ally, don’t let the closed double doors fool you into thinking it is closed. Cheers!

Was told of this place by a local, found the gate open and sign out as we headed back to hotel after dinner, so very glad we stopped in! Tiny little place hosted by the owner, Michael. Great conversation, lots of laughs and a great memory from our Ireland adventure. Michael, we were the 2 cousins from Atlanta. Thanks for the great experience! Did your friend have luck finding a tractor? 😜

Friendly locals… Folks from California, Wexford, Cork, Arkansas, and I forget where else!! One of a kind experience! It’s been a bar since the 1500s!! Tiny bar, tiny patio, little music venue on second floor. What a great bunch of characters having conversations!!

Great local pub with a clientele of locals to interact with. Feels exactly like a pub should feel. People interacting over a pint and chatting. It was our 50th anniversary and a local man bought us pints!!!!! what more do you want???
