Go inside to admire the amazing stained glass windows! The abbey is interesting from the outside too, it is old (from 1225), large enough, build in Norman architecture. We were there with our guide Claire (from Collins Day Tours), saw the tombstones and then went...More

Beautiful stained glass inside. Also some interesting statues inside. There is no charge but you can make a donation if you like.

We found this Abbey as we were just walking around the city of Kilkenny. We were able to catch a 6:10pm Vigil Mass as a bonus. Beautiful building and streets surrounding the area.

I have rated Black Abbey on it's beautiful stained glass windows alone. The beautiful five paneled 'Rosary Window' ,documented as the largest stained glass window in Ireland, is absolutely awesome as are the other traditional stained glass windows. In total contrast is the vibrant colorful...More

The stained glass was amazing, and the thought of the Church being used still to this day is wonderful. Outside you can see the empty remains of old tombs. Read the history plaques.

The Abbey is situated just outside the town center, maybe a 5 minute walk. It really is quite small but worth visiting just for the stained glass windows alone.

While this stop wasn't on our published itinerary our guide brought us here and I am glad he did. The stained glass is absolutely gorgeous!

Kilkenny has many wonderful historic sites and I recommend seeing them all. The Black Abbey is very old and still used as a church. The stained glass is very nice and the building is in great shape. Take time to look at things carefully. There...More

This abbey has a lot of very nice stained glass and worth a visit. Note that this is a "working" church, so you will see worshipers praying and going to the confessional, so please be respectful of that. Recommend!
