We had an awesome time cruising on the River Shannon. We hired a boat from Silverline Cruisers in Banagher. Their staff are very friendly and looked after us well. We were new to boating, therefore they provided us with tuition about handling the boat. The instructor was friendly, courteous and patient. We had an amazing time, we would highly recommend... My family- adult siblings, parents and one couple of dear friends all had the incredible experience of a private, week-long, barge excursion down the Shannon River on the Shannon Princess. The good: should I say fabulous? Incredible service and food. Comfortable, homey accommodations and individualized excursions. The food prepared by the wife and amazing chef of the captain was incredible.... More

We were a group of 7 on Le Magnifique (8 + 2 berth) from Emerald Star, 4 nights Mon to Fri. We went from Carrick to Athlone and back (via Lough Key). This is an expensive holiday and might be worth it if half decent weather could be guaranteed. But this is Ireland and you just cannot pin your hopes... More

This majestic river is the longest river in Ireland. It bisects the greater Limerick area in two. The Curraghgower falls near King John's Castle are lovely. It is populated by elegant swans. It is beautiful at sunset when the local rowing clubs are training.

The mouth of this river appears like a bay because it is wide. Some views are beautiful but power plants mar the views at its widest point on both sides of the river. Otherwise, it is calm and relaxing to cross via ferry at Tarbert..
