This ruined monastic site contains a round tower and several well preserved high crosses. You will immediately recognize that many more modern Celtic crosses are based on the ones found here. Monasterboice is not a far drive from Newgrange, so you can easily add it...More

Monasterboice is an ancient Irish cemetery with many wonderfully preserved Irish stone crosses. The tower and other ancient buildings on the grounds add to the mysterious ambiance of the site. Because it is still an active cemetery, proper reverence should be shown. The bucolic setting...More

Definitely worth stopping here as you tour this beautiful area. The stone crosses are huge, and the Tower is remarkable. Recommend you use a Guide to get the most out of the area. Recommend Derek Smith of Beautiful Meath Tours highly.

Its a very interesting historic site that suffers greatly from the last of a guide who might attend at a specific time. Otherwise it is interesting and lovely place to spend a little time but its a niche place for those into old graveyards, Celtic...More

The crosses are worth the trip, some as old as 1500 years. The view from the grounds is picturesque. I noticed there were some more recent tombstones as well. The history is compelling. There were some informational signs to help you understand the meaning of...More

This historic cemetery has a handful of impressive crosses 800-1500 years old. It also has an impressive old tower with the top blown off. However the monastery no longer exists and they continue to bury people on top of the existing graves as it remains...More
