Great day out

Easy climb which even young children can manage. Stunning views all along the route and breathtaking once you reach the top.

A nice hillside walk, not too steep and not a difficult walk. The 360 views at the top are worth it.

Enjoyed walking to the top, learning about the history and seeing beautiful view. This is popular in the area so you wont be alone, especially on a beautiful day. The path is clearly marked and not too difficult, although I would probably not do this on a rainy day as I feel it would be slippery. The history is very... More

Walked this with two boys, 9 and 6. Beautiful views on a clear day. Not too long or too hard to walk. Pity about those who choose to ignore the signs and show no respect by climbing on the cairn. Well worth a visit. Tea shop at the bottom.

It is really worth the effort to climb this to see Maeve's tomb and the spectacular views of the coastline and the surrounding mountains. It is not too difficult even if you are not used to doing much climbing but a good pair of shoes is essential.

Follow the signs to the car park. Ample parking, also a little 'snack van' where you can buy hot drinks/ snacks! We walked up, and around the 'summit' for some lovely views of the area. It was really disappointing to see a family (Irish) climbing on top of the ancient cairn, and two boys tossing stones off the cairn.

We set off from the Strandhill side opposite the rugby club. It is an excellent track which is so easy to follow. It is mucky at the top so walking boots would be advisable. It was a misty day so the views were not as good as they would be Ons clear day. A very enjoyable and interesting hike loved... More

We spent the morning at nearby Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery, where we had a clear view of Knocknarea and the cairn on top. By the time we hiked, the weather had changed! The hike was a bit rocky and there was a small stream of water flowing downhill that we walked through for quite a distance as we climbed. This wasn't... More

Make sure it's a clear day!! We did the route from behind Knocknarea ( approaching by car from Balliosidare & it's clearly signed ) . A 40 min steep walk , underfoot is gravel , smooth stone , loose moorland and steps. Sturdy shoes essential. It was dry today but imagine it can be very wet in parts. One teenage... More

It was a mild day, so we finally ventured up Kkocknarea, expecting a challenging, muddy trek. We were pleasantly surprised to find a carpark with coffee/snack stand and a wide, easy-to-manage path all the way up. The views on top were great, and we got a coffee when we were done.
