Description:

The magnificent curved facade of the warm butter-coloured stone building...

The magnificent curved facade of the warm butter-coloured stone building draws in the visitor. The eye-catching giant sculpture on the gable was inspired by a tiny 13th century belt mount found in Waterford. It is Ireland’s only purpose-built medieval museum and the only building on the island to incorporate two medieval chambers, the 13th century Choristers’ Hall and the 15th century Mayor’s Wine Vault.

Don't miss the stunning Heavens' Embroidered Cloths, Waterford's cloth-of-gold 15th century vestments, the only piece of clothing from King Henry VIII's reign to survive in the world - the 'Cap of Maintenance' and the Great Charter Roll from 1373, containing the earliest contemporary portrait of a medieval English king (Edward III) shown to Queen Elizabeth on her 2011 state visit to Ireland. These and many more unique artefacts await you on your guided tour of the award wining Medieval Museum.

I could have stayed all day but I had to fit in a visit to the Bishop' s Palace which was included in the ticket price. So much to see, from the reconstructed rooms in the cellar to the cloth of gold either with a guide, an audio tour or just wandering around at your own pace. A very good... More

Good afternoon StephenOldman, Thank you for your kind review of the Medieval museum, it is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your visit. The rooms you mentioned, the 13th century Choristers Hall, and the 15th century Mayor's Wine Vault, are actually not reconstructions, but the remnants of two Medieval buildings which were rediscovered in the 19th century, and are, as... I went here with my kids and my son loved it. We picked to do the audio tour which he really enjoyed as being young he can get bored on guided tours so I found this a great way to get around and learn all the museum has to offer at our own pace. Very interesting and plenty to interest... More

Good afternoon! Many visitors come to the museum to see the last surviving article of clothing belonging to the infamous Henry VIII, and it is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the tour, along with the cloth of gold vestments and the 13th century Choristers Hall. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your visit to us here in... More

We were walking past at the end of the day and decided to go in for a look and were lucky enough to join the last guided tour of the day. Highlight? Was it Henry VIII 'so hat, the amazingly well preserved medieval vestments or the description of finding a beautiful medieval gold brooch, hard to choose between them
