Designated a national monument in 1952, Tacumshane Windmill is the only surviving complete windmill of its kind in the Republic of Ireland. Built in 1846, it features a rare revolving straw thatch cap to catch the wind for its sails. Beautifully preserved and maintained, the key to have a peek inside is available from the adjacent Millhouse Bar & Restaurant.

I've been there when windmill was closed, but have a good time having a short break in sightseeing. Very quiet place and interesting windmill.

It’s interesting to see an old windmill. On the panel board you will see information about the windmill. We didn’t go inside because we didn’t have time( one day trip and you want to see to many things) but we take good shots because was...More

You can stay outside and read the boards or......get the key from the local pub and climb all 3 stories inside and see exactly how the thing works! Great stop and the pub next door does some great food and has a beer/picnic garden.

I haven't been to the windmill since I was a lot younger so this year on the annual Wexford trip, we made sure to include it in our trip. Approaching from Our Lady's Island, it's easy to miss as Mylers Pub has expanded over the...More

An interesting thatched windmill, still in working order. Unable to go inside, but there was plenty of information available.

Took ages to find this little mill, but there's something very cute about it, how it sits in the middle of a field like a mushroom that's been blasted from the past :D It's worth checking out if you are on the way to Kilmore...More

This is the oldest windmill with its mechanical workings intact. Loved the setting in a field behind a rural pub in a field with only the car park at the side. Didn't get inside as the place it said the keys were available was closed...More

Reportedly Ireland's oldest windmill 5km from Rossalare Harbour. It is in great condition and a key can be obtained from the local shop to go inside. The majority of the workings are intact and in good order. A fine example of mills before the advent...More
