Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Don't miss these wonderful gardens, they are a rich oasis of calm and tranquility. If you can, book a tour (free!) with Philip who held our group spellbound for over an hour with stories on the estate's background history, botany and ecology, appropriate to all levels of interest. Enjoy their great cafe too.

We went on the guided tour with Maggie on 21/6/'22. She was excellent. She was very pleasant and good-humoured, her commentary was very informative and she interacted very well with all those on her tour. The gardens are simply fabulous - the trees, shrubs, wildflower meadow, pond etc. It's a haven of beauty and peace with all the beautiful sights and sounds of nature at its best.

We had a beautiful visit to the gardens this morning. Maggie gave us an incredible guided tour that we enjoyed beyond all. Her knowledge of the trees, shrubs and flowers is incredible and also her knowledge of the history of the place and people who lived in it. She kept us spellbound for the entire tour and her passion and love of the gardens was infectious! Thank you so much Maggie. You made our day!

Visited mid March and thanks to Mary for a wonderful guided tour. This lady has amazing knowledge, but also her love and enthusiasm for the work she does shines through. The day was bright and beautiful, the gardens were full of Spring growth, there was so much to see. The Magnolia campbellii and Crocus Lawn are spectacular - a must see. Looking forward to going back for the Rhodenderon. Thanks again to Mary for a great visit.

Can’t believe this is free of charge! Superb short walks with beautiful surroundings and really interesting plants/trees. This was made all the better by the lovely weather we encountered. Highly recommend though would arrive early as small car park.

Our annual garden pilgrimage lead us to Kilmacurragh Arboretum. Hailing from Dublin, I have been to the National Botanical Gardens in Glasnevin so many times, but, and to my shame, never to Kilmacurragh. We did the tour with Deirdre and enjoyed a scrumptious lunch in the Acton Cafe. The team were fantastic, even with the packed lunchtime crowd they were efficient and friendly.

Visited here last September. Loved it, quite accessible in a wheelchair (more so than many outdoor activities such as gardens, park or estates). Very well laid out and planned out in general. Beautiful gardens, would recommend for a day out.

We visited this afternoon - 14th August 2018 - primarily to see the Victorian borders that we had read about in the weekend Irish Times. Whilst we were not disappointed with the planting in the borders, they were not as good as those to be found in June Blake’s garden just north of Blessington. We went there first this morning and approached Kilmacurragh from that part of Wicklow by driving through the Wicklow Gap to Laragh & Rathdrum. There is only one sign on the road North of Rathdrum and then once you turn at that sign, no further signs at all despite several junctions!! We only found the gardens by asking locals.

The toilets here were not in a good state with only one drier working half heartedly and no soap in the dispensers.

There is clearly a lot to do here and we will re-visit again to monitor progress. In the meantime, we hope other travellers have less trouble finding the gardens.

I visited here with 3 children, and we left very soon after arrival. We have been here many times before and it has always been very nice. We first went in to the very over priced cafe which is not child friendly what so ever, although in fairness the young lady serving was pleasant. I then went outside after paying following the children only to find 3 unhappy faces after being told that they were not allowed to play with their ball by a man working there. They were also asked where they here with parents, they had only just walked out of the cafe ahead of me and were basically rudely told off. I understand having balls in the area may be a hazard near picnic tables, but footballs or any sort of ball play is what most children love to do. However there was other families there playing with balls and nothing was said to them. The children were quiet saddened by all of this so we decided to go elsewhere. When we got to the car, one of the children took the football off their seat and was playing with the ball for two seconds right next to my car, while i was putting the smaller child in the car seat, the same man came up again and shouted to the child " can you put the ball away" . He was very rude and very unprofessional. He should have came up to myself, and kindly asked could i make sure that they dont play with their ball instead of saying it to the children. I left here with 3 very sad faces, i will never return to what we thought use to be a beautiful place.
