About
There is something for everybody at Ferry Meadows. Imagine somewhere beautiful, safe and unspoilt where you can walk, cycle, play, horse-ride, ride a train, go fishing, exercise the dog, jog, push the buggy and explore endless meadows, lakes and woodland all less than three miles from Peterborough's busy city centre. We also offer three play areas catering for different ages and an events programme throughout the year with lots of activities for children. If all of this isn't enough to keep you entertained the Visitor Centre & Gift shop stocks a wide range of toys and games along with gifts, souvenirs and sweet treats. After all this activity you can relax at one of our cafes, find a nice spot for a picnic or fire up on one of our barbecue stands. Nene Outdoors Watersports and Activity centre offers a wide range of watersports too for adults and children alike and you can book the meeting room for events with a view of the lake.

25 years ago, I did the BSAC powerboat handling course and assessment, giving me the equivalent of RYA2, a qualification that was supposed to last for life.
That’s all very well, except that in 2011, BSAC changed their course to split into two… cynically… the course and separate assessment. That makes no sense at all.
Needing an International Certificate of Competence to hire decent boats abroad, I turned to Nene Park for a “direct assessment”.
The service I received was exceptional. Craig, the assessor, put me through my paces, allowing me to adjust to an unfamiliar boat, while being informative and good fun to be with.
Anyone wanting to learn how to handle powerboats would be hard pressed to find a better way to do it… and this is from someone who has driven RIBS many times in rough seas in the North Sea.

Lovely new seating areas but tables not cleaned ready for the next customers , the queue was out the door and not enough staff. and the ones that were there had no motivation, after walking for over two hours around this beautiful park the cafes sure lets it down. Paper cups and the food did not look fresh especially the cakes, Shame we couldn't have a well deserved coffee. On busy weekend the owner really needs to get their act together.

Hello Rosie, I am sorry to hear you experienced problems whilst visiting the cafe's at Nene Park. I fully appreciate how frustrating this experience would have been. Unfortunately, these cafe's are not run by Nene Park Trust, but are instead managed by our partners at Meadow Brown Restaurants. I will be sure to pass on this feedback to them.
I hope this does not discourage you from visiting the park and enjoying all of the lovely walks, scenery and activities we have to offer!

We visited with our grandchildren last summer while the new Fox Play area was under construction and could see it was going to be very good. Since then have also seen quite a lot of detail about it on the website indicating it opened last October and how good it was.
We knew Easter Bank Holiday Monday would be busy, but we bought the grandkids here again in the expectation they could burn of their energy in the new(ish) Fox Play area.
That play park was closed for seasonal maintenance!
Who in their right minds plans for the maintenance and closure of one of the key children's attractions to coincidence with the peak Bank Holiday weekend? How short-sighted is that? The maintenance planners would have known it clashed with Easter.
Pretty disappointed to be honest. I doubt we'll come back here again.

Hello Bob, thank you for leaving your comments. I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed the playground was closed for maintenance when you visited with your grandchildren.
Unfortunately, the closure of the playground was not planned to be during the school holidays. We have been having issues with the groundworks of the play area and for this reason had to close the park for safety reasons. We are working on improving the groundworks so that it is ready for children to enjoy again very soon. The safety of our visitors is of the highest priority. Whilst we fully understand how disappointing it is for the children to see the park closed, we wanted to get the work completed as soon as possible, so we are able to welcome visitors to this area of the park again.
We hope this will not put you off visiting the park in the future. There are 2 other excellent playground facilities, water sports and cycle hire available for children and families to enjoy.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at visitor.services@neneparktrust.org.uk

Came to park to rent bikes, nice long trails around the lakes. But the park also rents all kinds of watercraft-canoes, kayaks, standup paddleboards etc. Nice looking playgrounds and train rides for the kids. Lots of bird life.

We joined the parkrun on a cold but sunny Saturday morning. Brilliant volunteers presented a well organized event. The route winds around the lakes and through woodland. Take time to notice the amazing sculpture wood carvings in the old trees. A few early spring bright patches of snow drops, daffodils and blossoms. Comical sightings of swan upside down with little black feet up in the air. Caught sight of a beautiful golden pheasant in the fields.

This is an excellent facility for walking and exercising. We enjoyed a long walk with friends and had coffee and cake at the Lakeside cafe. Saw plenty of birds on the lakes.

How much is parking?

Hi,
there is a barrier with a camera that clocks your car/reg. you then park up and enjoy your day, upon leaving you enter your reg in the machines located nearby. It’s around 1.50 for an hour. Once paid, You then have 30 minutes to leave and barrier recognises your registration and lifts. We stayed about 4 hours and was £5.
Hope this helps :)

Как дойти пешком до парка Ферри Медоус из центра,например,от торгового центра Qweensgate
NPTrust
Peterborough, UK3 contributions
Hi Natalia, thanks for your message. The best walking route from Queensgate Shopping Centre is 3.6 miles and takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. Walk out of town over Crescent Bridge, which runs over the railway tracks. Walk along Thorpe Road for some way until you come to a roundabout. Turn left at the roundabout, as if walking to the Boathouse Restaurant. Then keep to the right (The Dragonfly Hotel will be on your left). Straight ahead will be Peterborough Rowing Lake. Walk alongside the right side of the entire length of the lake then take the first left. This will take you under the Nene Parkway and the path will bend to the left before then bending to the right.
Next, follow the path across the bridge, over the River Nene. Take the crossing straight ahead across the railway tracks. Take the first right which takes you past Orton Lock Car Park (on your left).Walk for some way along the railway tracks and take the first right, which will take you back over the railway tracks. Take the first left. Keep following the path straight ahead which will eventually take you past the Nene Valley Railway Station and onto Ham Lane. Cross Ham Lane and turn right to access the footpath running along the left of Ham Lane. This path will take you into Ferry Meadows. Hope that helps!

Can you take your own dingy / row boat onto the lake?
NPTrust
Peterborough, UK3 contributions
Hi there. Thanks for your query. Rubber dinghies that you have at the beach are not permitted. Sailing dinghies and rowing boats are both permitted and in both cases you will need to prove third party liability insurance and pay a launch fee of £10. hope that helps.

Can dogs swim in the lake
NPTrust
Peterborough, UK3 contributions
Hi. We don't advise that dogs swim in the lake as we can't be sure what is in the lake. We do occasionally get blue/green algae in the lake which is toxic for dogs. Obviously if your dog goes into the lake then it is at your own risk.

Hi
Have read some bad reviews about parking, machines not taking money, people being fined etc. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't want to visit a park to go waking, to be fined!
Thank you.

Half the time the NPR cameras don’t even register you! But you have up to 24 hrs to pay on line I believe, if cash isn’t taken. Never had the problem myself though

We did it on the bus, it's a moderate hike from the bus stop to the park, and it's not that obvious where the right stop is if you don't know. But yes, it's do-able.
