About
Elton Hall is a baronial hall in Elton, Cambridgeshire. Home to the Proby family for over 400 years, the Hall is a fascinating Grade I listed building packed with treasures, fine art, porcelain and furniture. The Victorian gardens have been skilfully restored in recent years and contain a knot garden, a herbaceous garden with fountain, fine hedges and a Gothic orangery built to celebrate the Millennium. Summer opening season runs from the late May Bank Holiday until the end of August on selected afternoons. Private tours from May to September by arrangement. Full details are published on the website.

Awful rude staff and treat people with no respect. Would not waste time with this place. The owners are over privileged and should spend money on staff training with regards to general manners

We visited on a lovely sunny day and the gardens were looking stunning. The house is just as beautiful and we enjoyed a wander through a variety of rooms. The paintings were the best we have seen in any country house with works from very famous artists such as Constable, Millais & Gainsborough.
Stewards in the rooms were engaging and gave us great insights into the history and stories of the house.
A must see for anyone who loves art, architecture and gardens.
There is a cafe and garden centre in the grounds.

Just been to the Hall gardens for our annual visit ... it really lifts your spirits!
The gardens are simply laid-out in strong geometric patterns which gives a cleanness of lines and a symmetrical aesthetic to the grounds. Although it has been dry for the past few weeks there was still plenty of colour in the beds. Set against teh blue sky and grey stone of the Hall, there's no better place to spend a June afternoon.

How lovely that we are an annual visit for you. Perhaps you could try a visit later in the summer next year as the gardens are ever-changing. We look forward to seeing you in 2024.

Elton Hall is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit. I was able to attend a private tour at the end of April, which was fantastic. I went again today, taking visiting family members with me. I was disappointed when we realized it was a self guided tour. I was more disappointed when the docent in the stairwell couldn’t tell the story of the angels who “flew in from Parliament”.
The docent in the library was good and engaged my kids in guessing what the “button” on the desk could be. That was a fascinating tidbit of information!
I wish I could remember the name of our guide in April, she was so knowledgeable and just amazing.
I have to say. . . the gardens blew me away today. I could spend days there! In fact, I’d love to spend an afternoon playing with my kids there. I am fortunate to live in close proximity to Elton Hall and will be returning soon!

We are historic house members, and got in for free, had we of had to pay we would of been very disappointed.
We were in and out within 40 mins, and this includes a 5 minute walk from the gate to entrance, queuing up for about 10 minutes while people paid, and a 5 minute walk back to the car
Can't remember anything we saw, we took no photos, the best thing is the garden centre and lovely restaurant

Dirty burnt clump of rocket on my plate. Over done poached eggs. Charged 2.00 for one slice of burnt bacon. Spoke to the server young male with curly dark hair. “ not much I can do about that mate” all the other staff seemed really friendly. Such a shame how the standards have massively dropped.

This is not Elton Hall, we do not have a cafe/restaurant. I think you may be referring to a different establishment and will need to contact them direct.

I had been hoping to visit Elton Hall and gardens for sometime but it is only opensfor a short period of time on specific days. The day I visited was the last day it was open for 2022. Very helpful guides in every room. A beautiful house, the octagon room with all the china was lovely. The next room with the green silk walls was again beautiful the colours were lovely. Interesting to hear about the family throughout the tour. The amount of books in the house was unbelievable with their own cataloguing system which is now computerised. The Orangery would be a beautiful room for a wedding, it was set up for display with the most beautiful picture on the wall as you enter the room. The guide said they can help to source catering etc. Going out into the gardens was a wonderful experience so beautiful and well cared for considering the weather we’ve had. Again wedding photos would look lovely there. They also can do marquees. There were several areas and an archway. I am so pleased I finally paid a visit to this amazing house. I didn’t have time today but the Mulberry cafe at the garden centre is my favourite

Visited with a group from my local U3A. We had a private tour of the Hall and gardens so it was just our group in and around the area.
A guided tour of the Hall was very informative of the history of the Hall and the Proby family who own and still live in the Hall. The only criticism of the tour I have is, that too much emphasis was on the portraits and paintings and not enough on the contents of the rooms.
The gardens are stunning and despite the hot weather have managed to keep everything in tip-top condition. All done by 2 full time and one part time gardeners. There are so many aspects of the garden that it has to be seen.

Stunning looking house and beautifully kept gardens, must be seen. It is only open certain times of the year and must be pre booked. The house is full of history and antiquities. There were guided tours available but we decided to do our own thing. All the staff were friendly and helpful if asked. It was a very hot day and the gardens are not large but well kept and pretty. A large fountain monolith is well worth looking at in one of the gardens.
A short walk back to the free carpark leads to the Bosworth Garden Centre and cafe in the old walled garden of the hall. Good food at average prices sets you up for a walk around the garden centre, many of the plants in the hall's garden are on sale here.
Overall a little expensive entry fee to the house and gardens but worth a visit.

How suitable is Elton Hall for disabled visitors?
Elton H
Elton, UK
We are delighted to welcome all visitors however, in common with many historic houses, access is not easy for everyone.
Parking is at the Walled Garden Centre, a pleasant tree-lined walk of about 150 metres to the Hall. The Gardens are accessible to wheelchairs via gravel paths. The house itself is not suitable for wheelchairs. There are several flights of steps, which may be a problem for visitors with walking difficulties, and very limited visitor seating is available.

Am due to attend a wedding at your Hall, is there parking and could I leave car over night if need be?
Elton H
Elton, UK
I suggest you get in touch with either the bride or groom but there will be parking for the wedding and it may be possible to leave your car overnight but it will be totally at your own risk. Elton will not be liable in any way should anything happen to it.
