Had such an amazing day at Ripley Castle. Went off peak season so was free to enter but the castle was closed. But the scenery itself is just beautiful. Took a picnic and sat on a bench over a lake. Was so romantic. We parked off site (for a reasonable price) and had a lovely stroll up to the castle.... More

Castle grounds and the village still as lovely as I remember it 30yrs ago! Castle Tea Room a little disappointing. Advised we would have to wait 40 minutes for food, so opted for a cup of tea, filter coffee and cake x 2. Waited 20 minutes before remindjng them of our order. Apparently it was delayed because of waiting for... More

A real nice village location with great views. A walk around the external elevations is worth the stroll and without doubt a walk through the deer park is a must with the young stock running around not far away. A real treat to see the deer jumping about and it is a nice walking area to enjoy. The castle is... More

With free entry to walk around the gardens and deer park during January and February it was a no brainer when we were looking for brisk walk in early February. The tea room provided us with a lovely cuppa and a cream tea scone shared with youngest daughter after the hours stroll.

This is such a beautiful place and the gardens are wonderful. We especially loved the glasshouses which were full of exotic plants.

We weren't very impressed with the castle itself but the grounds and deer park are beautiful, especially the lake. It was a freezing cold day so it was lovely to warm up in the tropical houses. We'll definitely be back in the summer to see the kitchen garden. When we visited, entry was free until the end of March!

Castle guide was brilliant. I liked the fact you could use a "hidden" staircase and pick up old weapons. Less keen on the Tea Rooms in the village, service is disorganised and the waiting 30 minutes to get your tea never mind a sandwich is unacceptable.

This place is open every day and is free mid-week. The entrance in through a well stocked gift shop. Allow an hour for your visit if you want to walk round the deer park and lake. The formal walled gardens are a bit empty in the winter, as is the vegetable garden and orchard, but there will be more to... More

OMG this castle is straight out of your dreams, the feel is real BIG strong beams hold up the ceiling, thick stone walls protect you, the views are stunning from inside the rooms, the bar in an old stable so rustic, the tack room converted for buffet or spit roast, reception area grandiose high ceiling, clever glass curtain & doors... I was impressed that entry via the shop was free. A large herd of seer in the park too. Interesting tree collection from around the globe. Cafe was also open and was well patronised but we did not use it. Being interested in history a point of interest were the musket ball holes in the wall of the entrance gate... More
