I really enjoyed my visit to Ripley Castle. It is more of a country house than castle but full of history and in beautiful grounds. It is still a family home and I enjoyed the family photos scattered around, as well as the portraits of ancestors. The most enjoyable part was our tour guide, Dorothy. She was knowledgeable, informative, spoke... More

Many thanks for your kind comments: I will ensure that Dorothy is made aware of your appreciation. There will be an exhibition here next year, telling the remarkable story of the development of the castle, gardens, landscape and village: keep an eye out for details on our website later this year. We did not tour the castle as we did not have time, but stayed at the Boar's Head which including free entry to the gardens. These are very beautiful and very well maintained with lots of different areas to explore. There is a deer park but unfortunately none to be seen when we visited.I'm sure we will be back to... More

Walked in the grounds and enjoyed the walled garden, orangery and kitchen garden. Walking through the woods and near the lake. A lovely estate. The grounds are lovely especially around the castle. Had a latte in the tea rooms. Friendly staff with a nice menu. Seating inside or out. Will visit again to extend walk around lake and deer park.

We had a Guided Tour of some parts of the Castle (not all rooms are included on the Tour). The Tour Guide gave enough information without boring the Tour participants. He also introduced an element of humour on occasions. I particularly enjoyed the Elizabethan and Civil War references and the objects on display, such as the Cavalier's boots. Drinks at... More

Quite expensive for the tour, but a very interesting tour by the guide who was very knowledgeable, very well maintained gardens and a pretty village to explore.

An expensive day out for very little return. This food festival was very second rate and certainly not worth the entry fee. The toilets were at the top of the field and the disabled parking at the bottom - what a walk on an uneven field, which they had not even bothered to mow! The stalls and not that many... More

The feedback that we have received following the Foodies Festival has been overwhelmingly positive. Most have highly complimentary about the about the quality and variety of the food on offer. You only mention the hot dogs, doughnuts, burgers and beer but there were several stands selling craft gins, wines, Pimms, champagne, artisan ciders and cold pressed coffee, The food on offer... A very interesting tour by a guide who gave just sufficient information to interest but not bore. Lovely atmosphere in the building and gardens.

Gorgeous historical building. Surroundings are stunning and the guide was very knowledgeable. Brought back many memories from history class of the civil war and the battles between the Cavaliers and the Roundheads not to mention the Scots tearing down the north country. There are some lovely pubs and tea rooms in the village which is quaint and pretty.

Although we are National Trust members and have plenty of places to visit in Yorkshire for free, we still wanted to take my sister who lives in Coventry to Ripley Castle and village which we like so much but haven't visited for 5 years. Fortunately the weather forecast was correct (surprise!) and we had a lovely sunny day. As usual... More

I am delighted that you enjoyed your day out at Ripley and apologize for the slow service in the Castle Tearoom: we are aware of the problem and have taken steps to resolve it.. The rhubarb that you saw in the castle garden is destined for the Boar's Head Inn - where it will be put to good use in... More

Visited Ripley recently and thought it was an excellent little village, full of history and character. When walking round the village you feel like you have gone back in time, the give away are the cars parked nearby. A very interesting fact about the place is not known by many people. The old parish church has some significant history about... More
