Single sex sessions better because you can get showered more easily and it does avoid things like hen parties but it's always well worth a visit to see how beautiful the place is and to take that special time out

We were excited to visit, we love spa baths anyway and this one is historic. First impressions were a little mixed- the reception area wasn't that welcoming and we were taken in a group to have a sort of tour before we began. It felt strangely rushed as of course everyone was waiting for everyone else to get ready so we could go on the tour. The tour gave us a chance to see the different rooms but wasn't really needed, it was more about 'this is a hot room, that is a steam room' rather than giving us any particular insights about the place. Once the tour person left us to our own devices we had a lovely time and didn't want to leave. We particularly liked the hot rooms and it was interesting to try lying back with my head on a wooden support for the first time. It took some getting used to but was surprisingly relaxing! The only downside was the same staff member who had given the tour coming round every so often showing new groups. He seemed to have no sense that it was a place for relaxation for the people already there. The unnecessary staff intrusion was exacerbated by the fact that because there was timed sessions they then needed to go around telling people to leave at the end too. Go for the amazing experience of being in such a famous, historic place. I feel lucky to have now visited this and Bath, two of the really special ones. I hope the staff listen to reviews like this and try to not cram as many people in as they do and instead focus on making the experience more relaxing and special.

We have been to the Turkish baths a good couple of times over the last few years, and we have found that the experience has become less enjoyable the last couple of visits. The baths are a lot busier than they used to be, with seemingly larger groups in at one time, meaning that they are louder and not very relaxing. No 'quiet' rule is adhered to and the staff don't ask that guests do keep voices down and respect other people using the baths, especially in the steam room, which is very small. When we first started coming, the suite was generally kept quiet and that meant for a more relaxing experience. It seems now a place where guests are encouraged to use the baths as a social club. There is one member of staff who unfortunately ruins the experience by giving loud 'tour guide' style talks, making crude jokes and giving unnecessary comedy routines. He travels through the baths noisily and we find ourselves trying to avoid whichever part he is in. This is a shame as we found the rest of the staff seem very friendly, it is just this one particular member who brings an unwelcome energy. We have previously found this a pleasant and relaxing experience, as a couple or separately with friends, but after the last 3 visits, we will not be coming back. We resent paying for a session, only to have it ruined by the busy atmosphere created by large groups and the member of staff making fart jokes.

Reception are lovely. The system is good to move guests through and the facilities are very relaxing. My friends massage was great but mine wasnt as good. The therapist didn't ask me what pressure I wanted or asked if there was any areas to focus on so wasnt as beneficial. Liked the modern cafe.
