Research the subject first and pick your bore and vantage point. We went to Overbridge where the old A40 road crosses the Severn, now a pedestrian walkway. Fascinating.

If you live near the Severn, you'll have heard of the Bore. You may even have heard it. But if you live further away you may be unaware that twice a day for most days of the year there is a nature wonder that roars...More

Forecasted heights of the Severn Bore should be taken as a guideline only! The height of the bore is governed by nature, not the local papers! A great experience though - especially a big bore with the surfers and canoeists trying to stay with the...More

We came especially to see the bore which was a 3*. Absolutely stunning and so glad we made the effort. Everyone should experience this at least once in their lives!

Both times we have observed the bore, first time at the Severn Bore Inn and second time at Newnham we were rather disappointed. We were interested to see a crowd of surfers waiting for half an hour in rather cold conditions to catch a ride...More

Always interesting and not always predictable the star rating is a general guide (based on tides that can be forcast years ahead) but improved by a Westerly wind and atmospheric depression. The smaller forecasts are best enjoyed at night when there will be less noise...More

There is apparently no certainty of a bore at any time, but the various web sites give a prediction based on tide heights. We headed for a 3* bore and went to Alney Island, a short walk from the Gloucester city centre) to see it...More

This natural special is very well worth a visit but you need to plan in advance, when the 5 star bores are predicted throughout the year. These can be found on line by googling "Severn Bore" Even then you are not guaranteed success with huge...More
