About
Derby Theatre has a long and rich history of delivering high quality drama to audiences. Previously Derby Playhouse, our unique new partnership with University of Derby and an Arts Council England award of strategic funding, which will be built on via our entry into their National Portfolio in April 2015, now means Derby Theatre is transforming from a traditional producing house to an organisation of training, mentorship and artistic excellence. Led by Artistic Director and Chief Executive Sarah Brigham, Derby Theatre is bringing together creative professionals and audiences to tell compelling stories and take artistic risks as we emerge as a vibrant, thriving theatre. We combine this professional programme with an exciting suite of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and an emerging talent programme aimed at developing the next generation of artists. Meanwhile our community engagement programme reaches out across our region including people of all ages and from all backgrounds in our unique offer. 'A generous hearted enjoyable night out and the spirits rise to see Derby Theatre packed, bursting at the seams with laughter and - under its new Artistic Director, Sarah Brigham - full of real ambition.' Lyn Gardner The Guardian

The Mousetrap with Afternoon Tea - exceeded my expectations
Booked to see The Mousetrap as a Christmas present so have waited a long time, but it was definitely worth the wait! Great to see a full house and experience live theatre. As we’d gone for the matinee, decided to book the afternoon tea before the play. What a treat! There was a bit of confusion about our booking, but the Catering Manager, Iona, went above and beyond to rectify it, which was greatly appreciated. The whole experience was so enjoyable that we booked another play, Brassed Off, in October. We understand that they plan to do pie and mash before that play. Great to have something to look forward to.

    Our local theatre
I’ve visited a few times over the last year, with most recently coming to see “Brassed Off”. The theatre is very easy to get to, with many places to park within the shopping centre or local area. The theatre itself has a downstairs cafe, & bar upstairs. In terms of seating, I don’t think you would be disappointed anywhere you sit, as the theatre is relatively small compared to others.

    Lovely Post Christmas trip
Lovely Post Christmas trip to watch Cinderella a musical/play rather than a traditional pantomime. I loved the show. I sat in D1 and although their is a small step to the seats the view was great and the sound was good too and actually clearer than my last Christmas outing last year. The theatre is clean , tidy and the staff are friendly. The bar prices are reasonable £4.95 for a small wine where some theatres charge £10.00. Programmes were £4.00 and they even had Cinderella badges at £1.00. I have a few shows booked for the beginning of the year which are plays. I have notices they host a number of visting companies and do great work with the university of derby. I love this theatre. Just to say the access through the eagle market isnt possible now - so you need to go through the shopping centre where the theatre is or through the side entrance up some steps so the shopping centre entrance was easier for me.

    Great entertainment
We've already been twice to the theatre this year. A good selection of performances covering all genres, all seats have a good view of the stage. Good leg room, friendly staff. The cafe downstairs does good cakes and there is a good selection of drinks in the bar

    Modern theatre with friendly atmosphere
We went to see Rapunzel tonight. There was a lovely atmosphere with people of all ages attending. My eight year old grand daughter loved the experience. Parking is easy too as its just underneath the theatre so no need to get wet after parking.

A thoroughly enjoyable performance. Exceptional acting. Had actually overlooked that it was a digital live performance with support from BSL
